Chilli chicken and green chicken biryani

Damn good Biryani! Chilli chicken is my favorite... green chilli chicken was spicier but #2.

Good taste for the price. Tasted like authentic indian/Pakistani cuisine. Will sure visit again when I'm in the area. Offer Better parking at this location.

The fact I was surprised how much food was given for the reasonable price definitely worth it . As a college student is very hard to find good spots they give you great prices

Super affordable and perfect for when you need something quick and warming. The vibes are fast casual / carry out but it can fit a few parties of 4/6! The butter chicken is incredible

Fresh, hot, and GOOD, huge portion enough for 3 people, I will definitely go back to try something else. This is the Vegetable Biryani by the way

For some people, the problem with Indian food is that it takes longer to make, so it means waiting longer to eat. Ghareeb Nawaz eliminates this problem, without sacrificing too much in authentic flavor. It doesn't have a huge selection, but there's still plenty enough in my opinion. Another problem people may have with this cuisine is that it usually costs too much. This is yet another problem this establishment has solved. A lot of Indian restaurants around here are fancy. If you're expecting anything like that, fix those expectations because this place isn't it. This is a pretty nondescript cafe, with a few tables. It actually has a couple locations. This one is located on Halsted in University Village. Good choice for UIC students looking for something cheap. Or anyone for that matter. I've been to these locations a few times and have tried most of the vegetarian items. Last time I had lentils. It's about $7 for an entree. These typically come with a protein and rice. Best prices for Indian food. It's also pretty authentic so it's not sacrificing flavor and spice. There's plenty of choices for vegetarians.

Ordered myself lunch while at work, they left out an item and didn't send a fork for a carry out curry. I prefer not to use my hands to eat since I'm at work. Very inconvenient!

I can't put my finger on it, does this food represent a particular ethnicity or region? I know it says Indian and Pakistani...but it's not quite like what I am familiar with?

More than a few of the items on the menu are popular Hyderabadi dishes.

For lunch especially, the quality and portion sizes are amazing for the price. The service was extremely friendly and welcoming. It truly feels like a family-owned restaurant, and the staff consistently checked in on our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. We ordered a variety of dishes. My favorite by far was the chicken tikka masala - rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. The tandoori chicken, however, was just average to me; it was a bit overcooked and lacked flavor. I also really enjoyed the Josh Rogan and the mango lassi, both of which were great. The ambiance is nice and comfortable, but the wait can be quite long, so keep that in mind. Despite the wait, this has become my go-to spot when I'm craving Indian food. Great value, warm service, and mostly excellent food make it worth returning.

Food is below-average, service is good, and the ambience is bland and unappetizing…read more I am beyond surprised that this restaurant receives such great reviews when there is better Indian food in the city. To start with, my dining companion and I ordered the gobi manchurian, which was delicious. As a native Bangalorean, I take my gobi manchurian seriously, and was quite impressed with Maharaj's iteration (since then, I think they may have removed the Gobi Manchurian from the menu: it was great while it lasted!). My companion and I assumed that the stellar gobi would herald an even more incredible main course, but were quickly proven wrong. The malai kofta was insipid and texturally confusing. The gravy was tasteless and the kofta balls were simultaneously both chewy and crumbly. Listen: I love malai kofta, because as the name suggests, cream is the central ingredient. It is sometimes possible to paper over deficiencies in a malai kofta with extra cream, but alas, that was not the case here. It was close to inedible. The naan tasted like grocery store frozen naan: even Trader Joe's makes better naan. The bhindi masala was oily and not too flavourful. We did not dare order more at that point. On the plus side, our server, whose first day on the job it was, was super sweet. He made sure we were well-looked after, and gave us complimentary masala chai. The chai was lukewarm and overly milky, with little fresh masala. The decor consists of stereotypically Indian art of dubious quality. The seats were comfortable, and the restaurant was filled with South Asian people, which usually bodes well for an Indian restaurant. I continue to be baffled by that. It's entirely possible that it was just a bad day for the chef, but I don't think I want to risk another visit. Overall, as much as I want to support Indian restaurants in the city, I cannot in good faith recommend Maharaj.

Usually when I've gone to Indian restaurants they don't make it spicy enough but Kama made it spicy! My friend had the paneer tika masala that she said was really good. Each entree came with a side of basmati rice. We also ordered garlic naan for the table that was very tasty. We went to Kama on a Saturday night so it was busy but our food came out quick. Laura surprised us with a birthday dessert for the table that was a kulfi dou ice cream that was flavored pistachio and had a blueberry chutney. I've never had that kind of ice cream before it was very unique. They also brought out lit up candles so we were able to sing Happy Birthday. This was the best Indian restaurant I've been to and I can't wait to go back!
