What can I say? I've been exploring new food spots around our new location and came across El George Coney Island -- and wow, this place is absolutely amazing! Not only can you get a classic Coney Island hot dog, but they also have delicious fish and chips and a full breakfast menu. Everything I've tried so far has been fresh, tasty, and served fast. On top of that, the prices are super reasonable -- great food without breaking the bank. Definitely a new go-to spot! read more

Stopped in here for lunch yesterday. I had about an hour to kill, as my mom was having surgery at the hospital down the street. I don't live in MI anymore, so whenever I come to town, I try to grab a coney. My usual go to is Leo's or National. I had never been to L George's. I sat at the counter and ordered a coney combo (coney, fries and pop). It came out quickly. The dog had the perfect "snap", the chili was tasty, and the fries were nice and hot. While I was eating, several different servers checked on me to make sure I was all set. When I asked for the check, one of the servers said "it's been taken care of". I was like, what? She told me that an off duty cop who was sitting in a booth paid for my meal. Now mind you, the bill for a coney combo is not pricey, but still. I was blown away with gratitude. I recently lost my job and had just spent the first full week unemployed. The experience is humbling, having never been part of a corporate cut before. But, the time allowed me to come to MI to be with my mom while she underwent heart surgery. To the cop who bought my lunch, thank you from the bottom of my heart. To the staff at L George's...you are the best and I will be telling everyone I know. I can't wait to come back. read more

The food was good, but it took long enough for us to get it. By the time we got the food I think it was an hour later we decided just to take it to go. And they were busy but, they just didn't handle it well. Parking is kind of tight here as well. Anyway I don't plan to go back here again for some time. If you were a fan of "Seinfeld" and ever wanted to experience the "soup nazi", this is the place for you. For those unfamiliar with Detroit, Coney Island restaurants are as common as pasta in Italy. This one is rather sizable in terms of space. Breakfast is one of their most popular fares. Such was what we anticipated when we decided to check out our neighborhood local coney spot. But, boy, did we get more than we bargained for. So much more ... In fact, we got two bad breakfasts and a whopping plate of bad attitude. To begin with, at 9:00 a.m., there was only one other soul in the place having a meal. I'm mentioning this because if the place was busy, I might have been willing to cut them a break. Besides that person, two cooks, two waitstaff, me and Pimp. Soooo... I ordered a pancake special and he had the Paul Bunyan to go. We got our orders, but before we left I asked the server if they had sugar-free pancake syrup. The woman looked at me as if I asked her to tap a maple tree! She then poured me what amounted to a shot glass of the syrup. No big deal. I never use more than a teaspoon anyway. I took it. Said thank you, and she rolled her eyes. ROLLED HER EYES! Okay. Strike one. We get home and I opened my container with the pancakes. It looked as if I had a styrofoam trough, and they dumped everything in it as though I was a pig ready to slop! I ordered cheddar added to my scrambled eggs. See the picture of my eggs that had the cheese melted on my pancakes.. Pimp's Paul Bunyan was equally disappointing. Strike two. There won't be a strike three. This place sits in an isolated area that's rather hard to get into off the freeway (unless you're really trying to get there). I say that to say, we really made a conscious decision to visit this joint. Secondly, there are other choices that were closer and from which we've had better experiences. I'm so glad we have another late-night Coney option in Southfield! This place really satisfies. We ordered a western omlette and hashbrowns, wings, chilli cheese fries, and a grilled chicken pita. Everything was good, but the pita was exceptional. They also have the "good ranch," which is #1 in choosing a great coney if you ask me. The omelette lacked seasoning, but that was easily fixed, and I'd order the hashbrowns crispy; they were really soft. No complaints about anything else, they were fast, and we'll be back! read more

This place is quite the diner. I sat up on the stool side and watch 2-3 cooks going to town putting out some seriously good food. I always like to sit up near the flat top and watch the cooking. Always the good spot to learn new cooking tricks. This place is a diner, but not greasy. I had the Shawarma and it was probably the best pita I have had. It was packed full of flavorful chicken and veggies. The fries were fried just right with little grease leftover on the plate. The place was packed the whole time I was there. I ordered a carry out and when I came home, the sandwich was made incorrectly. I asked for the chicken to be cut into smaller pieces and to add avocado to the wrap. I live 20 minutes away and didn't want to drive back for a replacement. I called and the employee said she would issue a refund. When I checked my credit card a few days later, she charged me twice for the same sandwich. The only difference was $1.00 (for the avocado charge). Instead of the refund, she charged me $1.00 less for the avocado. I called to let the restaurant know, thinking it was a mistake. The employee said she never did it and she can't do a refund period. After going back and forth, they made me drive back to the restaurant to get my refund. The employee on the phone was so rude and disrespectful. Never coming back again! With so many restaurants struggling during this time, you would think they would appreciate their good customers. I used to come in at least twice a week, but they obviously don't care. read more

I was staying at a nearby hotel and didn't want to eat there. On the way in, I saw a couple of Coney Dog restaurants on Northwestern Highway near the hotel - one was empty and .L George's had people in it. I decided to walk over and have a couple of Coneys, because one cannot get good Coney Dogs in Chicago, believe it or not. The Coneys were good; the dogs had a good snap, and the chili had nice tang to it. But what I noticed was the amount of chicken breast that the cook was making. Almost every order that he was cooking had chicken breast as part of it. I asked the waitress about the popularity of those dishes, and she gave me a sample of the chicken breast. Just delicious! The next time I'm in town, I'm going back to L. George's and I'm going to order one of the dishes that have that delicious chicken breast in it! read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed L George's Southfield location before now. This place is a seriously good value for the price! You won't find a less expensive sit down experience and their food is good. They serve a delicious gyro and their seasoned fries are delish. They also serve breakfast all day. One thing that I cannot is poor customer service and cashiers that do not pay attention to what they are doing and can't follow instructions. This place strikes out completely on their first try. I called in an order of chili cheese fries with extra SQUEEZED cheese and a small amount of chili and a 6 piece chicken wings. I should have known something was off by the total and the size of the bag but it has been a LONG time since Ive been to L George's so I thought maybe the prices went up. I get home and what do I find? My chili cheese fries were mostly chili and a small amount of SLICED cheese and 16 CHICKEN WINGS!! How in the world they messed this up, I have no idea! How do you mistake the number 6 for 16?! One has one syllable, the other has two! And how do you give someone the complete opposite of what they order?! Then I tried the fries and they were horrible and warm! All it takes is one time to lose my business and this L George's has had their one time. I should have went to Chipotle like I originally planned. I think this may explain why this place is empty every time I drive by. Finally!! A place to take up this corner! L George's is a great fit for the area. Food is better than most coney islands. Service is fantastic and they are busy! They totally renovated the place so it's completely different from the restaurants who have been here in past!! Yay! Just a tip-you have to enter off Northwestern (not Beck) The Greek chicken salad is amazing. The omelet are huge and the fries are seasoned. I went to this place the other day because I was in the mood for a decent hamburger and wanted to dine inside. I got the basic hamburger. About the size of a quarter pounder. It was sooo delicious. Lettuce, onions, tomato, pickles, mayonnaise and mustard. All for only $3.50. And it was 10 times more delicious than any fast food restaurant. I really don't know how they stay in business. This small spot is always busy with diners or carryouts and it makes sense as to why! I always get their salads because they are that good that I don't want to miss out on it. The marinade they make their chicken with is out of this world! When you usually get a chicken salad at other establishments its usually pre-made chicken or bland and no flavor. This is one of the cleanest, most professional, and ALL AROUND BEST FOOD from a Coney island I have EVER had...my husband and I meet for lunch there often. Our favorite waitress is great with her suggestions and I have not eaten ANYTHING here I didn't like. The cornbeef and cabbage soul is to die for and the Swiss delight will make you slap your momma TWICE...The staff is friendly and very accommodating but more than that fast...a great place for lunch when you are on a timed lunch...if you go and don't enjoy it I will give you your money back (disclosure: I'm just saying metaphorically that I will give you your money back because I am so confident in their food and service)... Well, this isn't fine dining, but it's a fine Coney Island. Portions are large and the food is fresh. Everything comes out of the kitchen hot. Soups and salads are good, as are the burgers and fries. Check the specials board when you enter. Look around and see what others are eating. You really can't go wrong here. read more

Food is fair, overall I give it a 7/10 on some American fast cuisine spot that uses a grill. The service can be a little better give or take. When getting a take out some of the waitresses seem bothered if you don't call in the order. Some of the waitresses are not to welcoming to customers and it seems as if they want you out. read more
