Good news: I'm officially crossing one torment off the list, because our trip to Sullivan Honda was shockingly fantastic. Dave Paolino was just sensational. He was personable and not pushy or aggressive. We got a fair deal on a wonderful new 2026 CRV and a good value on our trade-in. Sullivan was the third dealer we visited, and the difference in how we were treated was noticeable. One dealer, after we spent fifteen minutes at his desk going over everything, didn't even ask for our names and contact information after we got up to leave. In another dealership, one salesman handed us off to a rookie after a few minutes who probably knew less about the makes and models than I did. We had a positive experience at Sullivan starting with the minute we walked in. After Dave introduced himself, he walked us around the showroom and the lot, answered our questions, explained the new features and technology that are light years beyond what we had in our ten-year-old model, and sent us off on a solo unaccompanied test drive. He looked at our existing car and soon wrote us out a clear to read written proposal with trade-in allowance for a new one. We wrapped things up a few days later and now have that brand new CRV. I must admit that navigating that Infotainment screen is a bit challenging and I need to get better at using the maps, apps, music, etc. I also want to give a shoutout to Sam the Android Tech and John in Finance who helped us along the way.

What should have been an exciting purchase quickly turned into months of stress, uncertainty, and constantly having to chase answers. I was told that the vehicle had to be brought back to this dealership because the warranty would not cover the repair within the first 30 days of purchase. However, the dealership then kept the vehicle beyond that timeframe and ultimately processed the repair through the warranty anyway. As a result, my warranty coverage was used to repair a vehicle that, in my opinion, should not have been sold in that condition to begin with. Very sneaky! At one point, I was even made to feel like I was somehow at fault for driving the vehicle--when in reality, I purchased a car to use it, not to worry about whether normal use would cause it to fail. That moment really stuck with me. I was told they see these issues happen everyday to cars that this is normal. I was told the issues were due to the age and mileage for the vehicle. Zero accountability. After finally getting the vehicle back, the same issue happened again not long after. I completely lost confidence in both the vehicle and the dealership's ability to properly fix the problem. I was advised NOT to drive the vehicle off the lot as I would do more damage and warranty wouldn't continue to cover the repairs but they had no concerns on damage or safety having us drive 1.5 hours there twice for repairs. What made this experience worse was the way it was handled at a management level. My interactions with the general manager came across as dismissive and I was appalled by the statements made as they were very unprofessional. Honestly an embarrassment for their organization. I understand that cars can have issues--but how a dealership handles those issues matters just as much. In this case, the lack of transparency, poor communication, and how the warranty situation was handled made an already difficult situation much worse. If you find yourself in a similar situation, know that you do have options. You can file a complaint with the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, which oversees dealer practices and consumer protections. It's called the K-35 Dealer Complaint Form. I'm sharing this so others go in informed. Ask questions, document everything, and make sure you understand exactly how problems will be handled after the sale. Don't count on transparency from this dealership. They won't tell you the vehicle being sold just had a major engine repair 2 days before sale. The same engine repair that had to be fixed twice, among other parts that were affected in the process.

The morning of the appointment (that's today!) I decided to text that same number to confirm that the vehicle was still there, as the drive to this dealership is almost 2 hours from my home. They responded & told me that the vehicle was sold, but I should take a look at their other options & let them know which I was interested in so they could have them ready for my appointment. I never showed any interest in their other vehicles. I was very clear that there was one single car I wanted to see, & so that's the car I made an appointment to see. They sold the car & were never going to tell me. They were going to let me drive 2 hours one way to find out the car was gone. That's a really dodgy business practice. I've been coming to them for my periodic emissions testing for many years, starting when they were at their previous location. I decided that when my Nissan pickup truck needed any sort of repairs I'd bring it to them. I called a few days ago to arrange having the brakes serviced on my truck. When I called, I was greeted by a friendly voice of a young woman whe gave me a day to bring it in. On that day, I went to the service window and that young lady greeted me and said she'd give me a call later that day when they could tell me what the cost would be and when it would be completed. Later that day she phoned and told me the amount of the bill and said the job would be completed by end of the day. The price wasn't cheap (I wasn't expecting it to be), but I'm more concerned with quality & value. I told her that I arranged to pick it up the following morning, if that was ok. A little later that day she phoned once again to let me know the work was completed, just for my information. I appreciate that they communicate so well with their customers, and I'm very satisfied with the work they did. I learned just now from the owner's response that I can have my oil & filter changed while I wait, with an appointment made in advance. So I'm upping my review to five stars!
