Now, I'm no mechanic, but I've been working on my own vehicles since I was 14, roughly 40 years. Most of the time I can diagnose and take care of all my vehicle repairs and service. But when I have an issue that I can't solve or diagnose, these guys will figure it out, then hand my truck back over and allow me to perform the repair. There are shops out there that will not do this, which is not right. They insist on doing the repair job and charging an astronomical labor fee, plus double what the OEM parts actually cost. Don's Auto will diagnose and then hand my vehicle back over to me as I prefer. I value this and will gladly return the business, also allowing them to handle the big jobs like timing belts. Had some noise and grinding (most notably during turns) a while back. Took it to Don's. Told me I needed new brakes and rotors. Given the noise and grinding was only experienced during turns, I was a bit skeptical, though I figured I'm generally braking during turns and I'm certainly no mechanic. Car had about 45,000 miles on it, thought it seemed a tad early (especially for the rotors), but took their word on it. Within a month of getting them done, I noticed a slight recurrence of the noise, again most notably when turning. In retrospect, I should have just taken it right back to Don's and let them know. Fast forward just 30,000 miles later, and low and behold, start noticing a thumping when I brake. Decided to take the car in to another auto shop, who had fixed a different issue for me. After popping the tires off, they showed me the rotors and everything. They were in shock when I told them I had only 30k on these brakes and rotors. Said there were only a few possibilities for this - 1) the shop never replaced the rotors and flat out lied 2) they replaced them with used rotors or 3) I misunderstood and the rotors were never replaced. Went home, pulled out my records and sure enough, receipt I got from Don's said I got new brakes AND rotors, front and back, just as I had recalled. Will certainly not be taking my vehicle back to Don's. Only reason they get 2 stars as opposed to 1 is I take some blame for not bringing it back to Don's right away when the noise I had originally brought it in for came back so quickly after the replacement. read more

It's too bad I didn't get the 5-Star service from Don's that other reviewers had. I was referred to Don's Auto by a friend but ultimately I will never go back. I made an appointment to bring my car to Don's on a Wednesday. Before my appointment came, my car got worse and we moved the appointment up to Monday. We called to update the appointment and gave the information as to why we were bringing it in early (my car wouldn't fill up with gas). During the 5 days that they had my car we were told a few other things needed fixing, so they took care of those items as well. We paid them over the phone since we wouldn't be able to pick my car up until after hours, but when we did get my car, it still wouldn't fill with gas. We just so happened to run into an employee after immediately bringing my car back to the shop, even though it was after hours. He was very helpful in getting me into a rental car after I asked for one (I didn't have one all week and with the need for a car over the weekend, I made it a point to get one). I ended up keeping my rental car for a week, putting my car in the shop for 2 weeks. I was very frustrated by the whole endeavor because the original issue we brought my car in for was never addressed in that first week, nor was it part of the LARGE payment we already made the shop. When I brought this to the owners attention, I was told that it "wasn't his fault" and wouldn't pay for the entire rental car. Needless to say, the shop offered to pay 2 of the 7 days of the rental car, but refused to take ownership of an employees mistake (not addressing the issue with the gas not going into the car), leaving me even longer without my car. Ultimately he said he would split the rental car with us, but we still had another pretty penny to pay the shop after our other LARGE payment we already made. I finally have my car back but it's shaking when I drive on the highways and now I wouldn't trust my car to go back to that shop to address that issue. I'll never go back to Don's and I hope no one else experiences what I did with this shop!!! read more

My family and I were on our way up to New Hampshire from New York when a freak accident on the highway nearly stopped us in our tracks (a ladder fell off a truck and we were 1 of 3 cars to run over it). Parts of the undercarriage were hanging off our car and we weren't sure if it'd be safe to continue. Don's Auto Care Center was within a few miles of the accident and got high star ratings on Google so we called, explained the situation and was told they'd be able to help us out. We drove over and Don immediately took our car in, assessed and fixed the damages (he bolted the torn off plastic parts back on to the car as well as took photos and showed us the issues he'd found), said the car was safe to drive and sent us on our way with a nominal charge. He and his team were kind, courteous, speedy and inspired complete trust. We were so thankful to have found them during what was a stressful situation. Thank you Don and Kate!! read more

I was heading to Vermont on a business trip and my car started chugging and running really rough. I live on the CT shoreline, so was no where near home. I stopped at Don's and told them my situation. They immediately pulled my car in and started working on it. They were able to hook up the computer and find out that one of the cylinders was misfiring. They said I needed a new spark plug coil packs/ boot that had gone bad. They had the replacement parts there within an hour and I was back on my way! Very nice, they showed me the old parts and explained exactly what was happening and why....I learned a lot from this unplanned visit! The prices are fair and was pleasantly surprised by how kind and professional and speedy they were even though I was just a random person walking in with an unscheduled visit! read more

My boyfriends car started stalling in APRIL. We replaced the starter and it continued to stall so we brought it to Bosco's in Enfield in May and again in June and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Kept telling us it had to "die completely" for them to be able to test it. Last week we brought it to Beau's in Windsor Locks and they couldn't find anything wrong with it either. My father kept telling us to take it to Don's so we finally did and within an hour they knew what was wrong with it and by the next day it was fixed! The staff their was awesome and listened to what we had to say. They were quick and the cost was reasonable. We will DEFINATELY be going to Don's for all of our auto service from now on! read more

I moved to the area recently and had been driving quite a bit more than usual. I was concerned about my fluid levels because I heard a strange rattle coming from the engine and had done a significant amount of driving. I saw reviews that Don's is honest and couldn't agree more! Don's checked my car, test drove it, and found that everything was alright! They didn't charge me because they said they only charge for work which was so incredibly kind. They most certainly could have told me something was wrong and charged me for it, but they were instead honest. I will now be a customer of Don's forever. They were incredibly friendly and made me feel like my concerns were important. The staff is phenomenal and the quality of their care is blatantly apparent. I talked to a few people in the waiting room that have been longtime customers and raved about Don's. I love that they have a car wash and vaccums at their facility so you can take care of everything with just one stop! I am so incredibly impressed with their kindness and recommend them with sincerity. If you are near East Windsor, you need to go to Don's. read more

Service station in my hometown looked at a tire that was losing air quickly. Sprayed some sealant inside and said it was fixed. It became clear later that there was still a NAIL stuck into the tire that they failed to notice. Lazy an incompetent read more
