UPDATE: Based on Mackenzie's response to my initial review, I chose to give Custom a second chance. Chris came out, very personable and knowledgeable, and provided me with a couple quotes. I wanted a Mitsubishi system--and what do you know, he revealed to me that my other Mitsubishi quote from another dealer was full of bunk. Go figure. So, I took him up on his offer. I asked for quotes on both the low and high end system; I chose the low end system. Here's where it gets interesting: they brought the high end system instead, due to some paperwork mixup. They spent about an hour figuring things out for themselves, and in the end came to me with the offer: "we'll just let you keep this and get it installed today for the low end system price, it's just easier". I took them up on it. The installers were great, thorough, and efficient. Here it is 5 months later and 22 degrees outside, and all is well. Thanks for reaching out, Mackenzie. I explained the location on the original call only for a tech to come out and tell me they can't do it because they won't park their truck in the alley. The HVAC guy was over 2hours late for the appointment. That wouldn't have been an issue if they had called and let us know. We had to call them to find out what was going on. The technician was nice and informative, no issues with him. However be forewarned, Custom Air price gouges their replacement parts. The technician replaced the "contactor" on our Train heat pump and charged us $292.00 for this part. I asked for the defective part and the technician reluctantly left it with me. After he left I looked up the part via make and model number and it is being sold online between $25 to $40. That is ridiculous! I understand that companies have to make money off of supplies/parts they use on jobs. However, I am sure Custom Air is able to get parts at a discount through suppliers and to charge customers 9 to 10 times more than what a product costs them is highway robbery and I refuse to be a victim of theft again! read more

2 years ago their tech broke my AC right before a part shortage and a heatwave. their management at the time told me 1) it was my fault 2) it would have broken even if their tech didn't do it. they've been combative and offered 0 material help when I've offered opportunities to keep my business. also - id been a loyal customer of theirs for years and spent thousands of dollars with them. they're fine when things work well, but when their tech breaks your system they throw the tech and you under the bus - all the while taking 0 responsibility. TLDR: this isn't an ethical company. they won't just take bad news/luck, they'll stick you with it. any other hvac company will treat you better. read more

I purchased an AC/Heater combo. The price was not the lowest, but they were by far more professional and offered good, quality equipment. The estimate included three different options and I was able to see the differences. I chose the middle of the road package. I made the agreement on Monday, and they showed up the next day at 8:15. The supervsor introduced all three and they all wore covers over their shoes and masks. They laid down a blanket over the carpet where the old unit would be taken out and the new brought in. In general, they were very efficient and definitely knew what they were doing. They found that the pedestal needed to be replaced, but they had there metal shop fabricate it and it was here in about an hour. No extra charge. read more

Custom Air installed a Trane HVAC (with air filter, humidifier, UV light) and a Mitsubishi Mini Split. My neighbor, a retired engineer, was right on the money when he recommended Custom Air for our new heating or cooling equipment. Office staff, sales and installers are total professionals and very friendly. Ty Gates did a terrific job laying out our options for a new Trane HVAC system plus a Mitsubishi Mini Split to heat and cool our third floor. We had presentations from three companies and quotes from two. Ty beat the other company's price by over $1,600 including rebates -- more, actually, because Custom Air's quote included a remote thermostat for the second floor, external temperature sensor, an internet connector for the app, and a sensor that notifies us if there is water on the basement floor. He also saved us over $1,000 in rebates (the other company had missed the $200 AEP rebate for the mini split). We also appreciated his making it possible for us to speak with two people for whom Custom Air had installed Mitsubishi Mini Splits. Custom Air is a Diamond Contractor for Mitsubishi, which means they have specialized training and the parts warranty is 12 years instead of the standard 10 years. Ty also balanced our ducts and supervised and followed up on the installation. He was easy to talk to and answered texts and emails promptly. The installation team, led by Chris, was terrific. The crew put down dropcloths to protect our wood floors. They needed to drill through brick and plaster to install the Mitsubishi Mini Split. It could have been a huge mess, but they tented the area in plastic. It was a pleasure having Chris, Perry and Nate in our home. Mark, the electrician, also did an excellent job. Everyone was super nice. These folks are all staff, not subcontractors. The plastic parts to be installed on the outside of our redbrick house are beige, so we bought a can each of plastic primer and paint and gave them to Ty. The crew painted the parts offsite and brought them all ready to go. It ended up taking 5 cans of spray paint to cover the length of wire molding up the side of our house and the condensation exhaust cover, and Custom Air went out and bought the extra paint. We appreciated this extra service. They also carried our old window air conditioner down two flights of stairs and hauled it away. The new furnace and air conditioning compressor are much quieter than our old equipment, and it's great having a remote thermostat on the second floor so we don't have to go downstairs to change the temperature. The Mitsubishi Mini Split is a huge improvement over the window air conditioner and baseboard heating we had been using on the third floor. It's energy efficient, super quiet (inside and out) and the temperature is always just right. Like the Trane HVAC, this system includes a remote thermostat and an app. We are thrilled with our new systems and with Custom Air's excellent installation. Exceeded expectations! Quote process was low key and fast with our inputs heard and considered. Installation went perfectly; very competent and patient technicians. We have a 1908 house so there were some wiring quirks - we now have a wired thermostat for the first time ever. Customer service answers the phone and they employ quite a few heating and cooling geeks who happily answer questions. Our Air Conditioner stopped working. We tried to live with it for a few weeks, but realized a fix was needed. We called a service provider and they diagnosed a bad compressor. (A $1900 repair). So we called several top recommendations for AC from Angie's list. All suggested a new unit and gave us quotes. Ty from Comfort Air came and gave us the quote. Then he looked very carefully at the unit and found a simple blown capacitor and replaced it on the spot. We now have air conditioning instead of suffering in the heat. I was turned onto Comfort Air by a colleague. I teach at a community college and I found that one of our Adjunct faculty in HVAC was the president of comfort air. I cross checked the company rating on Angie's list and BBB and gave them a call. I was so impressed with their professionalism, that when my AC unit really does die for good. My furnace had been acting a little weird, inconsistent, but would turn on for short periods and then turn off. I assumed it needed cleaning because I had not done it for a few years and frankly let the filter go way too long. The house was still heating so it wasn't an emergency. I Looked up reviews on yelp and emailed Custom Air before I went to work in the morning, by the time I got to work they had already emailed me back with pricing. I gave them a call and they said they would come out same day! Wonderful! The technician was kind and went right to work. I could tell that after he worked on it, it still wasn't working right. He had to give me bad news I needed a new gas value, there wasn't any other issue with the furnace but it wasn't working consistently after many tries. Not an inexpensive thing..$700+. I held back tears, money is tight and that was not what I was expecting. I could tell he also felt bad about it. But he talked to be about it and explained what was happening, as we talked I mentioned I was having a water heater issue as well. He asked what was happening. I explained the pilot light won't stay lit, he immediately went to my gas stove and tried the burners. Then went back into the basement looked at my gas meter, he said, 'call the gas company right away, I think you need a new gas meter.' What?! He said it sounds like you aren't getting enough gas to the house to fuel all your appliances, so he left me with the estimate and said to call them if the gas company didn't solve the issue. I called they gas company, they were at my house within 20 mins. They took one look at my meter and said, 'yep, you need a new meter. We will have it done in 1/2hr, free of charge.' WOW! WOW! I will wrap this up with Custom Air is HONEST!!!! They could have charged me for a part I didn't need, but they took the time to talk to me and understand what was going on. They were not in a rush to hand me a bill and walk away. They have gained a loyal customer!!! Sorry for the long review, but they are wonderful! 100% recommended. read more

Custom Air is the company contracted to our building by the strata. A few months ago a phantom leak in the bathroom ceiling started haunting us and we couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Jim B. has been our service technician and it has been great working with him! He certainly lives up to the company motto "The Difference Is Service". He is friendly and personable, and has been working hard to sort out our unusual problem. I don't know very much about plumbing/heating but Jim seems to be much more knowledgeable and informative than previous techs sent in to diagnose our leak. Jim or their friendly office staff usually sets up a 1-2 hour arrival window, none of this "between 1-6" BS, and gets in touch when he is on his way. He has also gone out of his way to stop by short-notice, as our issue was completely random and impossible to diagnose when the leak wasn't active. There was some demo work required in the bathroom ceiling, Jim took care to create minimal damage and mess as well as cleaning up everything before he leaves for the day - even if he was returning the next morning. read more

Our AC unit went out recently and prior to having Custom Air, had another "reputable" local company out to look at the unit. They first told us the unit would not work if the part was replaced and they recommended replacing the entire hvac system due to age etc. We had custom air out then for a second opinion. They not only gave us a price that was almost $3500 less than the other company on the HVAC replacement, but proceeded to replace the bad part on the AC unit for a small fee and told us that there was really no reason to replace the AC unit/HVAC given the good condition they were in. I told custom air before the tech looked what the other company recommended so he could have easily told me the same thing and tried to sell me a new unit. I have worked with Custom Air for the past 5 years. I have 10 units that they have maintained. Even though the are much more expensive than comparable companies I have continued using them. My furnace stopped working Sunday evening. I called first thing Monday morning and was scheduled for appointment for Wednesday between 8 - 10am. I took off from work in order to be here during this timeframe. At 9:30 am Wednesday Kim from custom air called and told me they would not make it at this time. She wanted to reschedule me for an afternoon appointment but I would need to give her a 5 hour window. Unfortunately, I have children that need to be picked up from school and can not rearrange child care on a whim. I have gone 72 hours without heat, took off work and I am unable to get Custom Air to schedule a reasonable appointment time. Kim told me I can schedule a" first appointment of the day" (which I was scheduled for today) but it will be two weeks before they can make it out. I have contacted Bryant Heating and cooling and was scheduled same day with a 1 hour window. read more

Customer Air who's an authorize dealer of Trane Installed the Trane A/C System in our home. The system is still under its 10 year parts warranty and needs the outside coil replaced. We would need to pay the labor which we agreed to but the owner of Custom Air will not honor the warranty. He will only fix the leak in the coil at standard book rate no discount on labor or warranty on part. So, we already paid $349.00 to Custom Air for nothing but a service call and inspection of problem and now they want another $844.00 to repair not replace the outside coil. We've called several other Trane dealers they all verify that it registered and still under warranty but will refer me back to Custom Air who sold and installed the Trane system for warranty replacement. We're going on our second week of no air (everyday has been 90 plus degrees). At this point we're going to have to go with another company to fix the leak because no one will honor the warranty. It's truly sad that the owner himself of Custom Air got involved and decided not to do anything at ALL. Not honoring the warranty that's still actively in place or discounting the labor absolutely nothing. I will continue to post reviews on Custom Air because I don't want to see someone else get treated the way we did. read more
