A little over 2 years after a $20K+ stamped concrete patio and it's totally crumbling. Less than a year after the pour the sealant was already worn and we asked for it to be resealed. Greg did, begrudgingly. Now, about a year later and it's completely chipping, not just near edges and cracks but in the center of the slab too. Not to mention the footprints that were in the coloring from day 1 and when we pointed them out he said "it's not a piece of art, it's concrete." Now we need to figure out how to fix the eyesore in our backyard. Save your money, biggest regret we ever had on our home was using this company. read more

It is extraordinary the lack of communication provided by Greg of Custom Concrete. We had our patio and garage floor poured, a few weeks after our village poured sidewalk slabs. I let the crew know how new the slabs were and that I did not want them to pull the cement mixer onto the slabs as they would break. They ignored my request and cracked the slabs. I reported it to Greg, the owner, and he had them pull the slab out with plans to repair it. Months went by with dozens of calls while my driveway sat with a gaping hole in it. They finally came out five months later to repair it. I did refer them to another friend/neighbor to which they replaced their driveway. I have yet to receive a referral ($200-300) according to Greg. He called and said he would bring it out months ago. No referral ever sent or received. DO NOT believe this as it could be a selling point, but it is really a flat out lie. Not only did I not receive the promised referral fee, my neighbor suffered cracking within weeks and Greg and Custom Concrete refuse to respond to dozens of phone calls. What an embarrassment! No one deserves this treatment and this guy should never be contracted with or used. He is a charlatan. read more

Greg did my stamped concrete patio, didn't even last 12 months before parts are crumbling and cracking. Any attempt to have him look at it results in empty promises, and no returned calls. I've been trying for 6-7 months to get him to fix the patio and he never shows up. Terrible quality and zero customer service. Be aware, Greg is a great salesman, but his follow-through is poor. He couldn't read his own notes, so he changed the layout of our patio initially. I was able to catch the guys before pouring to correct a couple of form locations. He ordered the wrong color of concrete (I requested color and stamping but he ordered standard concrete and didn't inform me until it was on the way, thus changing the stamping to standard broomed finish too) they damaged my downspout, didn't repair or credit me for the repair (still damaged) their forms were crooked on my front sidewalk, (not a major issue, but par for the course). When they broomed my patio they flung concrete across the broomed surface so now I have an eternal concrete fleck spray pattern on just one section) and finally, they left a form nail in the side of my house where they poured the step to the back door, Floated the concrete about a 1/4 " deep over it, and now, 3 months later it popped the concrete, exposing the nail for all to see the cause. The absolute kicker is, I've called 3 times just about the nail pop, I would have let the rest go, but Greg will not return my calls. He was very quick to call me when he wrote my card number down incorrectly and couldn't get paid, but service calls?... I guess there's no time for that! Wow did I make a big mistake when I hired Custom Concrete to pour a stamped concrete patio for my home! I think the pictures speak for themselves. I made the wrong decision to pay the contractor/owner Greg before Custom Concrete completed and sealed the patio because we were leaving for vacation early, and would be gone when the patio was completed. Oh how I wish I could turn back time and not make that mistake! When we got back, I called and complained and Greg sent someone out and all they did was put a coat of Xylene on the patio and left. That didn't do anything! I called and texted numerous times after that and he no longer would return my calls or texts. I even texted Greg these same pictures, so he knows what my patio turned out like, and it's like he fell of the face of the earth. NO RESPONSE. These pictures are what I'm stuck with now and I paid thousands of dollars for this. The stamped concrete patio is extremely blotchy and discolored. It has footprints of release powder that wasn't properly cleaned off before they sealed it and now there are permanent black spots and footprints all over the patio from it. There are hard, uneven rough ridges where the stamps meet all over the patio. There is extreme puddling after it rains and the water remains in puddles on the concrete for several days before it is able to evaporate on its own. When it rains really hard, waters comes under the door, because they poured the concrete too high, which goes over the bottom of our siding. There are uneven areas of sealant on the whole surface of the patio that look very discolored as well. Since Custom Concrete won't come back and fix the shameful job they did, I have been trying to get other concrete contractors to fix it and I can't get anyone to touch it! No one wants to deal with this problem that some other contractor created. I mean no one else will even attempt to fix it! We are most likely going to have to shell out thousands more to get this one ripped out and a new patio poured. All I wanted was a nice patio for me and my family to enjoy and what I got was a nightmare. I could go on and on about how horrible this patio is, but the pictures really say it all. read more

I would rate ZERO stars if possible. Greg Dase is incompetent; he placed my concrete driveway while it was raining - it spalled within two weeks. What a moron! He splashed concrete on my brick house that I later had to pay someone to remove. He improperly constructed my garage slab; it now has 1" cracks which Dase said he would repair if that happened. When I withheld payment waiting for him to make things right he drove his truck across my lawn. read more

Originally, I notice a driveway in our neighborhood in Lombard, it looked fabulous, just well finished and quality work. I called Custom Concrete, immediately that afternoon Mr. Greg Dase, showed up and gave me an estimate; GD went to Village of Lombard, got my building permit, $150.00 plus had have a plat of survey.` Five days later, removed my old asphalt driveway in one day, showed up the next to pour a beautiful dark charcoal driveway with a California frame finish. The crew was polite, conscientious and highly skilled in placing and finishing concrete. if you are looking for a driveway; I highly suggest your call Custom Concrete. I would give 0 stars, if given the option. Greg Dase, the owner agreed to replace our front stoop, service walk, driveway, part of the city walk and the driveway apron. We were never given the option of paying for a separate pour for anything and they poured the entire job in one day. Anytime we questioned something we were told that they were the professionals and to let them do their job. The first evening of the pour we noticed a crack where there should have been an expansion joint between the front stoop and service walk. He finally agreed to replace the first slab of the service walk. The California edges had high ridges and are discolored, and the broomed finish is excessively rough to the point that it is now spalling. They replaced the support post on the front stoop while the concrete was still wet, which we asked them not to do. They did not a plate or shims under the post, and now it is embedded into the concrete. The control joints were not tooled all the was through from one side to the other, so water sits there. When we questioned this, we were told its not an issue. Within one month there was a crack in the middle of a slab of the city walk and two cracks surrounding the support post on the front stoop. There were crack in most of the control joints. Mr. Dase came out to take a look and refused to do anything about it. The city inspector came out and determined that Custom Concrete did not put in the proper expansion joints between the private and city sections, as required by the city and also determined that they did not use the required mix of concrete. While the city would not do anything on the private side, they made Custom Concrete redo the city walk and driveway apron. For a company that boasts of being in business for 43 years, they are really lacking on finishing touches, seem to cut corners, and they certainly don't pay attention to the concerns of the homeowners. read more

The owner of Custom Concrete, Greg, told me that I did not need a permit for my concrete patio. As it turns out, the city I live in requires a permit for concrete patios that are within 15 feet of the property line. It also requires an engineer to sign of on land grading if the patio is within 5 feet of the property line. My patio is within 5 inches of my property line. I've tried to contact Greg about fixing the problem and he ignores my calls. I strongly recommend NOT using Custom Concrete of Glen Ellen! read more

Post job completion customer service is horrible. Had my drive way redone as concrete in Oct 2018. Noticed cracks ~8 weeks back. Called them to come out and take a look. After leaving several messages, finally got through to Greg, who told me he was very busy and asked me to call him in mid Sep when he would come out. Called him yesterday and he just totally went back on his word and asked me to call him back another 4 weeks out,end next month. Much as I tried to convince him to come out earlier he didn't seem to care and started using foul language. Ultimately his words were " Do you want me to come and see the driveway or not - if you want me to take a look, then give me a f***ing call in Oct. Can't believe this guy is a registered contractor for the city of Naperville. Anybody can have a bad day in the office - but his obnoxious language and extremely rude attitude was totally unacceptable. Stay away from them!! Definitely not recommending them to anyone read more

Greg and team did a great job replacing my aging concrete driveway. Greg pushed the permit through quickly and kept me informed throughout the entire process. In addition to the driveway, we wanted to remove some back stairs but he recommended keeping them and was able to restore their look and function, saving me a lot of money. Informed company that we will accept their quote. They asked us to get permit which we struggled with and asked for help. They refused and then when permit was finally issued Greg told us he will call in a week to get started. Never heard from him so we called again and he said it will cost more money because of the rain....Very unprofessional and once again never heard from him again. I'm another that would rate Custom Concrete as a ZERO if it was possible on Yelp. Not even sure where to start as this has been a fiasco. Greg may come across as a nice, regular guy when he's asking for the job. But that's where it ends. He then asks for cash (IRS issue or plausible deniability when people complain?), won't supply a receipt of payment, won't respond when cracks appear within months, etc. That's on top of the fact the job was done poorly to begin with. If you see a five star review here I'm sure it's a friend of Greg's helping to balance out the 'accurate' one-star reviews. Stay away and pay more elsewhere if you have to. read more

Custom Concrete Glen Ellyn did a $5500.00 patio concrete job for my father-in-law. Thanks to their inexperience the house has flooded 4 times due to an incorrect pitch of the concrete, flaking of the top layer of the concrete and crumbling stairs. We have had 3 no-show appointments from a Custom Concrete Glen Ellyn Representative. If you want a real concrete company please try elsewhere. read more
