I had a great experience at CustomEyes! I have to wear glasses more regularly so I was prepared to invest a bit more in the frames. If you're concerned about cost I would recommend doing your research I liked all of the funky + classic options that were available and I was pleasantly surprised when I got the last pair in stock of my chosen frames. I only had to wait a few days for my glasses, and they look FAB Hunter was so helpful guiding me through the try on process with honest opinions about how the frames looked (+ good conversation to boot)! 10/10, will be returning for regular eye exams. read more

Worked with a newer woman at the store who barely went over the details and policies of buying here - she did not mention that there is a policy of NO REFUNDS. Which is horrible because after multiple weeks and an additional adjustment on my glasses from someone else in the store since she didn't know what she was doing, I'm still getting headaches and am unable to read. Pretty good place to get glasses. The frames are all very cute and very expensive. With good insurance, we paid $450+ out of pocket for some new specs. There are some lesser priced options, but you'll have to dig around, and with their smallish selection, it's a bit hard. I think they are a good quality, and my husband wears them every waking minute, so it's an important investment. I use Zenni Optical for $15 frames/lenses because I only wear glasses for driving. The optician was knowledgable and friendly. If I decide to get some contacts for concerts or museum outings, I'll probably just use my old prescription and order from Canada, but I am notoriously frugal. I came here for an eye exam and to shop around for frames-- always a pleasant experience with a great selection, and a sufficient number of both professionalesque as well as artsy frames, but nothing terribly run-of-the mill and not a whole lot of crazy high-end stuff. Seems the going rate for frames is outrageously expensive in general, but your options if you don't want to buy on a direct-from-China website are pretty limited, and the customer service here is pretty awesome. I'm writing a slightly different type of recommendation than most of the others - and I hope that it's well received by the business, because it's certainly well intended. I bought glasses online last year from Warby Parker and during the time that my one year old grew into a two year old, they've certainly seen some rough service. Barely fitting my face anymore, I slunk into Contacts and Specs during naptime today and was warmly greeted and had my bent glasses expertly fitted. There was a $20 fee, which the owner provided me with all the documentation and instructions for having Warby Parker reimburse. I look forward to shopping at Contacts and Specs next time I'm looking for new frames, and will be recommending their fitting service to other bedraggled souls who didn't opt to buy local - at least we can support local (cool) businesses in this kinda sideways way. Update: It turns out that Warby Parker only reimburses for 30 days after the purchase, but I hadn't told the owner when I bought my glasses (and I was going to pay reimbursement or not) and the service and fit were excellent. read more

I had a very good experience here. Two years of medical school has not been kind to my vision, and I needed an update. (Apparently studying all day every day isn't great for the eyeballs, whaddayaknow.) The optometrist did a great job updating my prescription. She was very friendly. The receptionist was also sweet and helpful (and a fellow manicure-phile :). The best part is that I can once again see past my own hands, so obviously a plus. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because of the cost of the exam. It's...pricey. Like almost 50% more than what I used to pay Manhattan. I didn't see any prices on the website (other than $700 frames which, ok, probably should have been a clue.) I will probably go back next year if I need another update, but hopefully my eyeballs will resist the urge to become small footballs for just a little longer. read more

I broke my glasses and tried to go to the place I got them, but that place was gone. The eye place in its place/the same space told me they couldn't fix them (and in order to have new frames covered by insurance, I'd need to take an eye exam, I understand, that seems standard), so I decided to get a second opinion. So, I called Custom Eyes and when I said I had broken my glasses, Manager Jonathan sympathetically said, "Ohhh." It was so sweet. I came in the next day and a part was missing from my glasses, so Manager Jonathan Perez looked in his box of odds and ends and that part was not in their box - he then found a beautiful pair of glasses in his box that fit my lenses and JUST GAVE THEM TO ME! He would not take any money!!! I gave him a tip and told him I'll be back for any eye needs I might have and that I'd write a review and recommend them! I can't recommend them enough. Jonathan was so kind and went wayyyy above and beyond. He was also wearing very cool glasses, with these yellow highlights. I have never had anything like this happen to me before!!! read more

After wearing the glasses for a few days, I'm ready to write my review. I've been looking around for a store that knows how to work with a high prescription and was very happy when I went into contacts and specs. The optician was able to answer all my questions and even offered a few tips on what to get that I never even knew existed. I came in here a couple times before finally deciding on my pair and she was friendly and knowledgeable every time. It's refreshing to go into a store where someone knows the right balance of not hounding its customers, but sensing when you need assistance and genuinely being happy to help. Dr. Patel was absolutely amazing. Professional, kind, made the whole experience easy. I had to go to work afterwards so we rescheduled the last step of the exam (that leaves your eye sight a little blurry) for later on in the month. Receptionist was on point. I used a yelp coupon for the first time, for half of the regular price ($49) and you get a complete eye exam!! You can take your prescription and choose where you buy your lenses (although they also have a large selection of really sweet frames!) so all in all this place was perfect! read more

So, after wearing the same glasses for well over a decade, I decided it was time for a change. While on one of my weekend walks with my son, I stumbled upon this store. During a weekday, I stopped by just to look at some glasses. Marissa helped me. She noted the current pair I was wearing, then offered suggestions. In about an half hour, I selected a great pair of glasses. These new glasses are different and striking for me. I'm finally up in the style of eyeglasses thanks to Marissa's help. I work in the neighborhood, and like many people find style and fashion a bit overwhelming. I was really happy with my encounter with Marissa a few weeks back when we first met, so I decided to check out their sunglasses selection. First off we all love the 3 for $20 sunglass booths, but face it we are buying complete crap which usually falls apart in the bag before you get home. The selection here is top quality and varies in price (I did drool over a $525 pair of eyeglasses) However many items are very reasonable.
