I have been a patient for over 10 year but unfortunately now longer. Since the practice was sold about a year ago to EyeCare Specialties of Illinois the level of care for patients has greatly declined. The last appointment is 3:40pm Monday through Friday, most patients work or are in school so you would have to take time off. When I addressed my concerns there was no care, it's clear that they are here to accommodate themselves and $$$ only, not a patient first practice. The optometrist, Natalie, was friendly, professional, and she laughed at my crappy jokes. First eye exam in almost 5 years. Obviously technology has changed and Wear Eyewear had all the latest gadgets. Dr. Natalie was awesome and explained the benefits of the new machines, ways they help long term, etc. she was also super personable and lovely to work with. The sales staff were also great, helping me pick a great pair of frames and getting me exactly what I wanted. I don't think I got the gentleman's name but he was also amazing and great to work with. The selection of frames they had were very extensive and you're bound to find the perfect pair for you. The staff is extremely nice and helpful - they answered my questions patiently and honestly - I never felt like they were trying to up sell me. Dr. Jordan is EXCELLENT! I saw him last year and he was quite informative, professional and personable as well. He deserves 5 stars! He is no longer at the Chicago location and after what transpired today, I will not be returning to the practice ever again. Fast forward. I need a pair of contacts until my annual visit in March. I just came back yesterday after a lengthy stint in Texas, (where mask seem to be an option) and I am in quarantine. I requested a trial pair, until my exam, made an appointment for an exam and was told it would be $50 to have them sent to me, as I am unable to pick them up. $15 for the contacts $35 for delivery. Curious what delivery service they use as I am not that far away. What a profit! Based on the cost of their frames, I would expect more consideration. I cancelled my appointment. read more

I have been going to this store for 10 years and have spent over $10K in glasses over the years. Dr. Natalie is terrific and former owner Joe was also terrific. But Joe sold the business and the new ownership has taken over and unfortunately the business is in complete decline. The short story here is I ordered a back up pair of glasses with the exact prescription they had made here last year. 3 months, 3 attempts and still no glasses. The new lab is awful and new management nice enough, but not really interested in resolving the issue. No urgency, no follow up and no answers. Example- attempt 3 to make the prescription allegedly went to alternate lab after tries 1 and 2 failed in the new lab. That was 4.5 weeks ago. When I called I got the same answer of "I will call the lab and call you back." Nothing further since then last week. They did refund my money. Needless to say I have now moved to another store and just ordered another $2K in new glasses. So long Wear, you once were a good store. read more

This place is, well, pretty terrible. I went a few years ago and saw Dr. Jordan based on his reviews (even though the reviews of the staff were not great), he was lovely...so I need another exam and go back, this time I get Dr. Wozny. She was fine, I guess...it was a very rushed process, clearly just trying to get as many patients in a possible. Towards the end of the appointment (all 22 minutes of it), she gives me some new daily contacts to try...completely unsolicited by me. So I go to check out and they inform me that there was a $60 fee for a "lens fitting" even though she just handed them to me (and clearly is being incented by the manufacturer to push these lenses). This was unsolicited, unprofessional, and unacceptable. The shop itself is a hot mess... boxes and papers piled up and cluttered everywhere you look. I thought I would browse frames and they are all just thrown into old, beat up drawers that force you to pull each one out to dig through and see if there is anything worth trying on. I tried to make small talk with the staff, the young lady was fine, the gentleman working the front desk could have cared less. He literally just put on Schitt's Creek (which I love) on the flat screen on the wall and was watching TV while exams and clients were shopping. The Tom Ford frames that I liked I was told were $450...I literally just found them on Smartbuyglasses.com for $117. Honestly, just avoid, unless you are going exclusively for Dr. Jones. read more

Based on these excellent reviews, I decided to give Wear Eyewear a try this past season and that was a mistake - one I will not be repeating. I made my annual eye exam appt for October for any doctor. I cannot tell you the doctor's name, however b/c he never introduced himself to me and didn't have any cards to give me. He also never really did an eye exam or check to see if my prescription needed changing - on either my contacts or glasses. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. When I asked if I should be taking tests for cataracts or glaucoma (which every other eye doctor does and offers to me in the last two decades), he said "no need.". Not once did he do the whole "which is better - A or B / 1 or 2" so how is he able to write me a prescription for new contacts? No idea - but he gave me sample daily wear contacts - about five different boxes to try out. I have a astigmatism in each eye (and have for over two decades) and so both my contacts and eye glasses indicate that...as well as I told him. However, he decided that I didn't need contacts that had astigmatism built in. So - the next day I tried a sample daily pair from him and I couldn't see at all. I called the office immediately and told them I couldn't see. They then ordered replacement lens for me to try. I stressed that I believe they needed to have the astigmatism built in. They agreed and said they should be in within a few days and they would let me know. A week+ goes by and I hear nothing so I call them. They told me that they texted me the message that the contacts were in a week ago. They ask what carrier I have and I say T-mobile. Apparently it's a known fact by them that their texting service does not work with Tmobile. Why did they text me if they never previously asked me if I have Tmobile? Anyways - I go pick up the sample contacts. Lo and behold, they are the exact same 5 boxes I had picked up previously - the ones without the astigmatism built in. I'm definitely annoyed by this point - and finally, Dr Jones steps in and I see him and he does a full eye check (which is better A or B or 1 or 2, etc). He informs me that with astigmatisms that daily contacts are not at all an option for me. I questioned why the other doctor would prescribe that for me...twice...and I didn't really get an answer from Dr Jones. Moving on - I get a trial pair of contacts...which ends up being my exact same pair I was already using for the past year - but with a lower prescription in one eye. I do not quite understand how one of my eyes' sight could have improved in the last year so I'm still not sure I believe it's 100% accurate of a prescription. Hence - I only ordered a six month supply of contacts. In six months - I will go see a much better eye place where I can trust their eye care. read more

Okay, I've had a lot of eye exams in my life. And they have all been pretty clinical and 'meh'. Last week, I somehow got exfoliating face wash in both my eyes and freaked out because in my mind - there were tiny exfoliating beads nestled in my eyelids scratching my eyeball with each blink. It didn't help that I read numerous reviews of the face wash (after the fact) that said that people had to get their eyes numbed and eyelids flipped inside out to clean out all the particles. To add to that - I had recently had Lasik. Needless to say, I was PANICKED. Wear Eyewear happened to be the closest eye doctor with day-of eye appointments open, so I made an appointment. Dr. Jones immediately put me at ease. He was humorous and light hearted and reassured me that: (1) I wasn't an idiot for getting face wash micro beads in my eye and that (2) I was going to be perfectly fine. He was communicative of each step in the process along the way and gave me some painless eye drops to take some photos of my eye. He showed me the photos of my eye and explained that the beads were long gone, but that they did leave some tiny cuts on my eye. So much pain for such tiny cuts! Dr. Jones was also very fair in his assessment and told me that my eyes would probably heal on their own within 48 hours - but also gave me the option of buying some medicated eye drops to speed up the process. Not only that, but he also advised me on the drops pricing and send me a GoodRX coupon to help ensure that the price of the drops didn't exceed $15. His customer service was just above and beyond anything I would have expected for an impromptu day-of emergency eye exam. I would 100% come back here in the future for all things eyes-related, and will be raving to friends about my experience! EDIT: The exam was $75. I definitely feel it was very fair, considering how at ease I felt throughout the whole ordeal! read more

Everyone was incredibly friendly, patient, and professional during my visit. I saw Dr. Wozny and she did a great job explaining my eye conditions and her recommendations. In the front, Joe, Amelia, and Sharon were all super helpful helping me pick out new frames, and very friendly to interact with. Regarding COVID-19 considerations, the staff made sure there was only one patient in the front, and one in the examination room. I have been going here for years because they really take their time with you and answer all your questions - care is excellent. They even checked out my two existing pairs of glasses made by others to make sure the RX was correct etc. One pair was fine, the other (which I have never been able to wear) did not have the transition line in the correct place. To be fair, I can't speak to their optometry department, but their sales team is AWFUL. The first time I went in, I had asked questions on insurance and the woman treated me as if I were stupid and couldn't understand her questions. She kept giving me looks and just repeating what she said. Unhelpful. What really infuriated me was that when I went in to pick up my new glasses (which by the way cost an arm and a leg), I told them that the glasses were not fitting my face and they also just felt really off in terms of the lenses. The woman told me I would get used to them but didn't check anything, she just tried to get me out the door. I have gotten a new pair of glasses every single year since grad school and these glasses were the same prescription as my last pair, so I told her it shouldn't feel so odd. Again, she told me it was just me and refused to check anything with respect to my lenses. Flash forward two months and I have stuck to the advice that I should wear only this pair of glasses (not switching back and forth), and every day I wear them I have a headache from both how tightly the frames squeeze my face and also get dizzy because the lenses STILL FEEL WEIRD! The only times these headaches/dizzy spells stop? When I take my glasses off or put on contacts. I can't even get these adjusted because we are in the middle of a freaking pandemic. read more

I have a tricky prescription with high astigmatism. I have been using my glasses and contacts prescription from years ago because every time I tried a new eye doctor with hopefulness that they would enhance my current visual clarity, I would end up disappointed. Whether it was a prescription that was too strong and made me nauseous, contacts that were terribly uncomfortable, or if I could see far then my close up vision suffered. Thank you to Dr. Jones for finally finding a prescription that works for me!! And the appointment itself was so quick! I already started telling people about him and they tell me that I sound like an ad lol. He's THAT GOOD! Added bonus that he is hilarious. Best eye doctor appointment ever! I had an eye exam for the first time in a few years and felt this experience was insincere and that the optometrist only wanted to make money. 1) I agreed to pay an extra $40 fee since they suggested I needed a "wide angel photo" so they wouldn't have to dilate my eyes. The optometrist told me this behind closed doors and that it wasn't covered by insurance. I feel it was unnecessary and just a way to make money on patients since insurance doesn't cover much. 2) The red flag was when the optometrist said "everyone needs glasses, no one has perfect vision". My vision checked out as 20/20 and I had zero blurriness. The optometrist still wrote me a prescription and said it's up to me on getting some reading glasses. 3) The optometrist followed me to the front and waited for me to pay the front staff for the upcharge I described in the first item above. The optometrist then continued to lurk and waited to see if I would buy any glasses which made me feel uncomfortable. Overall, my experience was very insincere and I felt like just a number to them and a way to make more money. I will see an opthalmologist next time since they're an actual medical doctor and won't say "everyone needs glasses" read more

There should be a sign above their door that says, "Abandon all hope, ye who enter." Never go here. Go to Contacts & Specs or Glasses Ltd. Hell, ask your mom to open an optical store and go there. This place broke my sunglasses, and treated my girlfriend and me as if it were our fault that they broke. This is the worst kind of eyewear store: a place that believes it's more stylish than it actually is. The man and woman working there exhibit a level of snobbery and passive-aggression you'd expect from Parisian sales ladies on the Champs Elysees -- and they don't even carry a good array of glasses. Onto the story: I brought two pairs of sunglasses in to be fixed -- you know, because every glasses store offers this service as courtesy: one pair needed to be screwed tighter, the other needed to be loosened up. The crickets were chirping as we entered; not a customer in sight. Little did I know that free time does not make bad people more polite. After we explained what was wrong with one of the sunglasses, the man immediately said, "This isn't even a real Chanel frame." This would have been news to my girlfriend's mother, who purchased the glasses new in the early 80s. Meanwhile, the woman whisked my ALife x Retrosuperfuture glasses away without listening to me. She dumped them in the heat treatment machine (they don't need to be heated! the screws need to be tightened!) and gave them back to me two minutes later. When I tried them on, the hinge snapped because the metal had been stressed too much, and because the woman had been careless about how much she heated up the glasses. So, did she apologize? Or did she ask, "Have you purchased anything here before?" And then go on to say, "Oh these are heat sunk hinges. I can send this off to a lab, but I'm not sure how much they will be able to do." Thanks, lady. (My stream of evil consciousness at the time: "Well, I'm not sure how much longer you'll be in business, with your second-rate Theory and Matsuda glasses.") Meanwhile, the man shrugged his shoulders and said there was nothing he could do other than cut the arms of the Chanel glasses. After seeing the woman's skills, we wisely decided to abandon ship before these obnoxious people could wreck our day even further. read more

This was a couple of years ago, but my only experience with this optometrist was pretty bad. Dr. Fertig seemed like a nice enough guy, but he dented my cornea with the glaucoma testing device. The numbing solution was still effective, so I didn't realize the full force of the pain until I got home--it was unbearable. I called the doctor to ask what might be wrong, but he dismissively waved it off as "you might feel some irritation." The reality was, I had to hole up in a pitch-dark room with tears streaming out of that eye and incessant, throbbing pain. I finally pestered him to the point that he gave me some steroid drops, which helped until the pain finally subsided two days later. He also couldn't get my glasses prescription right. I had to go back to have the lenses adjusted. Add that to the sky-high prices and the pompous staff, and it was easily the worst eyecare experience of my life. read more

Service from the optician was a bit cold the first time I went there, but he warmed up as I returned and is now friendly; but he actually knows his stuff and is very helpful with lenses & frames when you have weird demands like I do -mostly about durability under duress. The optometrist is excellent and knows and evaluates medical conditions very well. The frame selection is indeed more limited than at bigger places; in my case they had some of the specialty frames I was looking for (e.g. titanium). EDIT: I had to deal with the woman there for the first time after having had problems with an order for lenses (apparently their fax didn't go through). She was blatantly rude and did not ever apologise. The guy made up for it the next time, but I had to deal with that woman again recently, and that definitely cuts off a few stars, as well as my business with them. read more

Almost a year after visiting Wear for the first time, I return to buy my a pair of sunglasses on my FSA. Specifically, a pair of Chanel I'd seen the summer prior. The sales lady and owner were eager to track down the pair and get them on order; and hey, at $475 i'd be excited too as a salesperson. The owner promised that the would arrive in 2 or 3 business days or possibly a week at the most if they were on back order and flown in from Italy but promised he would call and update me if they were back ordered. So, on the day they were due to arrive, I called Wear and inquired if I could come pick them up. There was a little confusion as to where they were and I was left on hold for over 15 minutes, this can be aggravating when it's dead silence. Finally, the woman comes back on the line and explains they've been back ordered for two more weeks. I was upset that no one bothered to call and even check, let alone call to let me know. Even though after expressing my disappointment that no one contacted me when they were back ordered the first time...the sales woman PROMISED she would call in two weeks when they were in. Fast forward two weeks later, I STILL haven't heard from anyone. I contact Wear and speak with the same woman (I think it's their only sales associate) who doesn't know the status or where the glasses are at. She calls the company they ordered them from, puts me on hold for another 10 minutes, and comes back to say they're still not in but won't be in for another two weeks. At this point, I was so aggravated I considered canceling the order and even phone shopped other opticians who might have a pair on hand. Flash even farther forward to almost four weeks to the day after ordering, and I am contacted to let me know they've arrived. FINALLY. No apologies for how long they've taken, or even an explanation...just here are your glasses. Really left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I change my mind, I probably wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

After many bad experiences at Lenscrafters, I finally decided to find a new optometrist in River North. I found Wear Eyewear through my insurance provider, and made an appointment for a full eye exam and contact lense fitting. I saw Dr. Jones, and like others, thought he was excellent. He was on time (what!?), friendly, thorough and very informative. He also helped me to realize that my prescription was WAY outdated, and I was essentially walking around half-blind with astigmatism. He gave me special contacts to address the issues, and it is a whole new world out there. I recommend Wear to anyone who is sick of Lenscrafters-type BS and looking for a nice, normal eye doctor. read more

I was highly impressed, and walked out with no disappointments, and a positive attitude on coming back every year. He gave me his thoughts, while asking me questions about my history with contact lenses and glasses. Not pushy but straight forward with kindness, and educated with experience. My insurance covered my contacts for the year, and my frames for $203 dollars. I don't take long making decisions, I knew what type of frame I wanted, and I was helped with looking at the ones that have a deal, and my style. Dr Jones is the best optometrist I've ever seen. I had great doctors in NY and LA prior to moving to Chicago, and he's a level above the rest. He's so personable, informative and thorough. I've seen him for two regular eye exams and a contact exam, and every experience has been wonderful. Usually when the doctor asks "1 or 2", it's a bit of a frustrating experience for me because I sometimes can't tell the difference or I don't know which to consider better, but Dr Jones does a really good job of explaining what to look for and how your eyes should feel. My eye was once severely scratched by a piece of city debris, and he was super informative in presenting me with the options for drops (anticipated cost, recovery time, etc). He also introduced me to the most comfortable contacts ever. For years I gave up on contacts after everything started to irritate my eyes. We found an option that fits and breathes. I'm so thankful! I've had a little bit of confusion with the staff when checking out (like more contacts than I wanted to order or confusing which exams I had done), nothing too major, but something to be noted. I've had glasses since I was about 4. I feel, at this point, pretty well versed in eye care. I know how glasses should fit, I know what RX I need, I know all the silly tests, but what I will say is that I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. I had 2 staff members pulling glasses out for me from every direction, opening drawers, doors, and boxes. By the time I left I had 30 some pairs of glasses all over the place. The doctor was great, funny, easy going, helpful with suggesting new contacts for my irritable eyes. I ordered a pair of glasses, used my insurance, and my glasses came in without a hitch on the day they said they'd arrive. Efficient, helpful, knowledgeable. read more

This had to be the best eye exam I have ever had. He explained the care I need to treat my diabetic condition or to prevent any problems.
