A Cut Above is seriously the best hair salon in Southern California, it's a family owned and operated business (Mom, Son, Dad, Etc). They are truly the best stylists' I've had in my life, Sergio completely restored my hair after I had unintentionally over-heat styled, leaving it brittle and weak. Over the course of 6-12 months Sergio transformed my hair dramatically, after just a few appointments my hair felt thick and healthy. Even going from a naturally dark root to a high lift - platinum blonde, my hair managed to feel healthier as it became blonder.. which is unheard of. While letting my hair grow longer, I got sewn in extensions for the first time, I was always apprehensive because it's an investment - but rest assured, Sergio uses the best quaility hair and installed my wefts perfectly, blended completely, with zero discomfort. La Vie has been doing my hair since I was 7 years old. So only a very short time, obviously. From school formals to Halloween costumes to my first wedding. If I don't see La Vie I will just do it myself. Cuz La Vie is the only one that gets my super fine cowlick hair. And ask my wild and crazy color combos and bangs. From going full Black with Betty bangs to removing all color until it was white and Hot Pink underneath. Remember the time we cut my hair for Holly Golightly costume. Good 'ol days. If i could give negative stars, i would do it in a heartbeat. My whole experience here was A NIGHTMARE. I had an appointment with Sergio, he didn't come in, wouldn't text or call back, apparently his mom Lavie (don't know how to spell her name) the owner of the store didn't even know where he was so she said she'd do my hair for me. Showed her the picture i wanted so many times, she said how easy it was going to be and how good it was going to turn out. I've always dyed my own hair because i've had bad experience with salons before. She knew this, i kept saying how scared i was and she said it would be fine that it was gonna be beautiful. i trusted her. BIG MISTAKE. Throughout the process i was texting my friend who brought me here saying how it didn't look like how it should and she wasn't doing it the way i knew it should have been done, we brought it up to Lavie and she said it's a process and just let her do her thing. i was like okay... i know the process is ugly sometimes so i still say their with anxiety holding my tears in. I got there at 11am finally at almost 6pm she was blow drying my hair. i very nicely said that i didn't think it looked like the picture, she didn't give let me finish my sentence before she ripped the towel off from around my neck and yelled at us to get out. she said that all she had to do was style it and how i'm crazy because it looks exactly like the picture. my hair was VIRGIN It was healthy and beautiful and she completely messed it up. The girl who actually does my hair said that by the looks of the pictures i have with foil in my hair that they were swollen which means chemical reaction and i'm so lucky my hair wasn't falling out in chunks. If this lady had just accepted that she messed up it wouldn't be that bad i get mistakes happen, but the way she got aggressive with me by yanking stuff off my neck and head and then yelling at us to leave and not owning up to her mistakes, was not professional AT ALL. she is not a good owner, let alone a good person. i should have known when i walked in and she was yelling at another costumer about a miscommunication that seemed like her fault in the first place. here is a picture of what i asked for, and showed her multiple times and pictures of what i got. read more

He is really good about listening to your wants and desires . He always goes the extra mile to make sure you love your hair . I have been to other places where I was afraid to speak up , if our creative visions weren't matching . Sergio never makes me feel like an inconvenience , rather a vip every time I go . Gloria is a life saver! I tried freshening up my balayage on my own and ended up with orange hair. I went into The cut above because a friend of mine had referred me. Gloria was there finishing up a haircut on a client and asked me to wait a few minutes. She finished with her client and sat me down to look at the disaster I had made and started mixing her magic and got to work on my hair. By the time she was finished my hair looked amazing and my anxiety was gone. Her other client told me on the way out that Gloria is great and I can now attest to that too. This is the second time I've tried going to this place, the first time was over a year ago. My mom and I waited for 1 hour. We went again today and Surgio said "oh I'll be with you in a minute let me just finish his hair" because he was doing some else's. An hour later, we're still waiting. Some other guy comes in and Surgio says, "I'll be with you in a minute, let me come finish cutting these two up." I'm not sure if that guy had the next appointment or something, but ours was for 11 and it was already 12. So we (my mom and I) got up to go talk to him and he ignored us completely. We walked out again. Do not waist your time here, the people are very disrespectful and don't value your time at all. It's very rude and unprofessional. The fact that this has happened twice is even more nerve racking. Please, do not waist your money there. read more

Sergio did my color and extensions and they were amazing. My husband said I looked 20 years younger, So I made my husband go see him to get his grey hair colored and cut. It was a real battle to get him to agree to color his grey and 3 times before he ended up with red hair and his original color was ash blonde. So getting him to try again took alot of convincing. Thankfully Sergio nailed it. The color was perfect. A ash blonde with no red tones and the cut was great. I was so happy to see the transformation in my husband. I can't stop looking at him. The lack of reviews is not a surprise. There is nothing that stands out about this place other than their lack of manners and customer service! The tall male stylist with the dirty blonde hair looked at me at least three times and did not even aknowledge my presence in the reception area. Gloria the other stylist looked at me twice and not one gesture or word was directed toward me. An edible arrangement was delivered to Gloria during this time; they aknowledged her presence. I stood there for a full five minutes because I wanted ti give them the benfit of the doubt. I guess I will keep looking. read more
