Well, the stylist knew I was getting my hair cut off for an upcoming surgery that would affect my ability to care for long hair. The surgeon did not release me to color my hair due to sutures in my neck. Carbon made an absolute mess of my bangs, The Spot spent a lot of time cutting just about nothing off of my head, etc. Ironically, Great Clips was my go-to when I had shorter hair. That said, I was a little nervous when I walked into 303. I like to play around with retro style, so my choice haircut for my length was Crockett in S5 of Miami Vice. I know, I'm a giant dork. After taking a quick look at the reference pic, we were off and running. It's the best haircut I've ever gotten. Ever. I'm having a tough time remembering his name, but the dude who helped me out was friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about what he was doing. He had a brand new skeleton themed smock, so I could tell he was having fun with the job. He didn't rush the job, he wasn't distracted or thinking about other clients, and he took a full hour and a half to give me the exact cut that I wanted. I wanted my long hair cut about 8 inches and to dye my dark-ish red, gray with purple roots. Honestly, after all the coloring and as she was blowing my hair dry, I was disappointed. I couldn't see the gray! But it was okay, hair grows back.... Until the hair actually DID dry and I could see all the color in its glory! She did an amazing job!!! Shady business! The other thing I notice is they don't listen well to what I ask for in other ways too- they are like many other hairdressers in that they end up doing what they are most comfortable doing and what they think looks good -ie a bit cookie cutter. It's then up to you to fix it up but later if you feel you can ( sometime I can sometimes I can't!) lol. Tonight I had to pick up some paint brushes from Michaels, I'm usually never on this side of the shopping plaza so I had a look around. I poked my head into this salon that I didn't even know was there yesterday to see if they could do a walk-in. It was the end of the day and everyone looked to be wrapping it up for the night. But one stylist said she could take me, so I gave her a shot. Her name was Wendy, she was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. I think we both had a good time while she was doing her thing. I could tell she was very knowledgeable and knew what she was doing by techniques that I hadn't seen in years, such as using a straight razor on areas of my hair, etc. Before I knew it I was thinking to myself that this is gonna be a great cut, and it was. Most definitely one of the best cuts I have received in a long time. She explained why she did this & that to control my type of hair and gave me really good tips to take with me. I will be back for more of the same in the future. This is the first review I've wrote on Yelp, it's just something that I'm not into. But during our conversation I was telling her that although our businesses are totally different, they are similar as far as clients and word of mouth are considered. So when I was telling her what a great job she did and that I didn't want to forget to grab her card so that I could return one day, she politely mentioned that if I really liked my hair that she would appreciate a review. And now that I am almost done, I'm glad I took five minutes to say thanks and I hope it helps her with her business. It's not easy to be out there working for yourself, I know how hard it can be.
