Axel and their company were the only ones who were timely, broke down the cost of work well, and responded to our questions and requests. He listened. He made recommendations but he never pushed. During the duration of the project, Axel would stop by to ensure the crew was on schedule. Any requests that we had were discussed in real time which helped the crew stay on schedule. However, dealing with the homeowners' association took a while and he very patiently waited with me. I had the pleasure of working with Eric in regards to a driveway and backyard redesign. I was told weeds and grass would only grow at the seams of the ground cloth. Unfortunately the ground cloth had no anchors and was pieced together from what looks like scraps. I am a disabled widow who specifically told Sarah I did not want grass at all. The neighbors who were interested in contacting have changed their minds and don't want the same problem. Also when I first complained about the weeds and grass problem in November Cruz was sent out to check. I did let Sarah know that I was out of town for a few weeks. When I returned I found water was running, in an unrequested connection installed for the back yard. Since I did not want the back yard connect Cruz just buried the pvc pipenext to the house foundation. This is where water was running. My water bill was doubled that month. I did contact Sarah to let her know and no offer to pay that portion of my bill was made. Truthfully the yard looked really good upon completion, but within a few weeks became again something I can not take care of. read more

We hired Cutting Edge to completely redo our front and backyards. We wanted something more drought-resistant that required less maintenance...and they delivered! We wanted something that wasn't too desert-looking with cactus, but had color and trees. Sarah Perez created a beautiful design that had everything we wanted. The cement work by Leo gave us a wider driveway and stepping stones to replace our old, cracked walkway. Cruz and his guys dug up the yard and added raised planters for us to grow vegetables, planted trees and inserted colorful plants surrounded by gravel and mulch. The entire project, once designed, took about two and a half weeks. We've gotten nothing but compliments from our friends and neighbors and it's given us new areas of our property to relax and enjoy. I moved to Long Beach recently, and I knew my landscape needed help, but I didn't know what to do and where to start. So a few searches and a few calls later, I got an estimate from Cutting Edge Landscape Design. Quote/Estimate: Ron Flores came out and a few things struck me 1) The first thing he did was tell me areas that were good and didn't need work instead of upselling me, I thought it was really special that his first focus was saving cost. 2) He heard our ask to lower maintenance, another case where he could have made us dependent on his services. 3) He really seemed to understand what we needed even when we didn't. When we agreed, their office worked incredibly professionally with contracts and approvals. Execution: They came back with a quote and I'd never had this kind of work done. I didn't necessarily know how to evaluate it and so the thought of "trust us", seemed counter-intuitive. However, that is what we did. We trusted Ron. A few things stuck out again. 1) He came out to our home personally 5+ times (that I know of), he was personally accountable to the work 2) We had a small issue with some incidental damage. He could have said it wasn't them, but instead without a question he fixed it and made it better than it was. They did all the work, found some new issues which they fixed at cost (our sprinklers were destroyed) but again barely any upcharge) and finished on time and on budget with only one change. They ended up coming up with some ideas, and one of them was how to address the fireplace. They did an incredible job. I didn't have a vision or a picture of what I wanted, I just knew I didn't like it. They laid down a gas line from our house, set up a fireplace and created a brand new outdoor experience. Quality: We LOVE it. It's incredible now. Ron had a vision and I'm glad we trusted him. He's been out since to check it and he's personally offered advice. There has been no upselling (in fact, he's true to his word he said we won't need help for a year) and they even put up tape to keep dogs out while the DG settles. As new homeowners all we could do is trust (why you are reading this review) as we did not have any clue what we needed, wanted or what we should pay. The prep work was so thoughtful and considered -- Shirley is wonderful to work with. And the execution was just as high quality, truly some of the best guys I've had work on my home, extremely considerate, careful, and took a lot of pride in their work. They cut no corners even where my budget would've justified it. They continued to come out and support/provide help even after install. A lot of well reviewed contracting services with big internet footprints are huge impersonal businesses that are better at churning reviews than actually doing quality work. It had everything one could dream of to host large parties and family gatherings, pizza oven, Santa Maria style bbq, deep fryer, smoker, fridge. We hired this company to remove the lawn in our front yard and side yard and plant drought-resistant landscaping. But they did not prepare the soil properly and crabgrass returned immediately. Now we have to hire another company to remove all of the new ground cover and dig up the soil and bring in new soil. We were told that this company did not use proper procedures in ensuring the soil was prepared. They refused to fix it. They also installed the drip lines in a haphazard way. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. Beware. read more

We did a complete re-landscaping of our front yard and couldn't be happier with the overall process & results! BOTTOM LINE: Matt & his team get the job done on a very high quality level - within budget and to our exact specifications - 5 STARS, no doubt. I'll be honest, like most home owners thinking about committing to a large house project; we had some initial concerns & hesitations with things like budget, timing, creative ideas, etc. etc. Then, I spoke to Matt... Matt did an excellent job, during our initial 5-10 min call, of helping explain the overall process, answer/alleviate ALL my questions/concerns, get a rough quote up front (which ended up being well within our budget and accurate down to the dollar), and scheduled a time the very next day to see our property for himself. During the onsite consultation, Matt again quickly walked me through the process and couldn't have done a better job of "painting" a clear image in my mind of what the end result would look like and the timing of it all. Matt knows his stuff and made it very easy (even for someone like me...a bit of a control freak) to trust him to do his job. Contract was signed and put in place by the end of the next day. For what it's worth, we did get 2 additional quotes from 2 separate companies and it wasn't even close... Matt introduced us to Jose and his demo/install team on day 1 - WOW, these guys are good! It took Jose and 1 other guy, 5 days total to complete the project; which included: completely clearing out & leveling the old yard down to dirt, install an entire sprinkler system with 3 valves/zones [gives an idea of our decently sized front yard], lay all new high quality sod, plant amazing looking pygmy date palms, planters & shrubs, outdoor LED spot lighting with timer/transformer, final job cleanup, AND explained/showed how everything worked going forward. The quality of service didn't stop there... Matt took it upon himself to drive by a few days after completing the project (unbeknownst to us) and noticed a very small area where the edge of the newly laid sod was burning out because one of the sprinkler heads needed to be slightly adjusted to get water to the little area...instead of only adjusting the sprinkler head and calling it good, Matt had Jose come back to correct the sprinkler AND replace the small area with a new piece of sod. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Matt, Jose, and the entire team at The Cutting Edge. Again...admittedly, I'm not the easiest person to please or work with because if I'm paying someone else for the job, I expect the highest level of customer service and results (which seems harder to come by these days)...this team ABSOLUTELY went above & beyond my expectations and honestly deserve more than just my 5 star rating. read more
