Having visited many CVS locations on business trips in downtown locations at major cities across the US, we can say that this one is typical. 2.5 stars for CVS or fast food on Yelp is a good rating--they almost never get more than 3-3.5 stars. If they have below 2 stars there is a real problem so don't go to that CVS or fast food place. As others have mentioned, the non-pharmacy staff here is very friendly and helpful. We did not use the pharmacy so we cannot comment on them. However, apparently the store restocks on Fridays so if you come anytime after that they may be out of some items you want or need on a trip. Only the self checkout was available on two visits here on this trip. You got the feeling that the person manning the self check out was more there for security than to help, but there kindly and warmly helped those who needed it. As typical of other downtown CVS locations there are homeless panhandling at the entrance to expect to get harassed on the way in and out. The homeless in Chicago are generally more aggressive than many other cities in the US--so be careful. On this visit this homeless guy was about medium aggressive but on other visits they have done into businesses and harassed customers one at a time in Chicago. Overall, if you are on a trip or in downtown and need something right away this is a good place to try to pick it up. read more

Convenient location and hours (later than is currently posted on Yelp, I think hours change a lot) but like other CVS stores this one suffers from extreme short staffing. It's a busy place, even late at night. There are a couple of big hotels and lots of entertainment as well as office buildings with some workers staying late. When I came to get some sundries (though I'm not sure I know what sundries are) the exasperated single worker curtly directed me from the service-check out counter to the "self-checkout." If you're going to make me an unpaid employee, give me adequate training and a discount. So I was fumbling around (when I mentioned "entertainment" in the area, what I mean was, there are a few bars within stumbling distance), the poor guy had to come over and scan me out in the middle of stocking or pricing and watching a couple of suspicious shoppers or shoplifters. It's not efficient, not good customer service, and it's not the worker's fault. Prices are okay for the area, and somehow the place was pretty clean. No affordable parking anywhere near. read more

Hooray for the new CVS in the Lakeshore East neighborhood! I was getting tired of having to walk so far to get anything I needed for my apartment. So when this CVS opened at the end of June, I was so pretty elated. :) This CVS is located in the Aqua building and is less than a 5 min. walk from me -- so I find it incredibly convenient. It's bright and clean and they have an amazingly wide selection of items sold there. It even still has that new construction/new store smell. lol My only gripe is that the staff is REALLY rude. One manager and some pharmacy staff seem to be the only nice people there. The smiles and great customer service here were few and far between. Oh, and take note of the store hours as they won't let you in 10 mins. before closing, even if you know what you want and are thinking you're just going to run in, get it, and pay for it. About 15 mins., before closing time, they are sure to push everyone out the door. Rude staff and bad customer service aside, this CVS is one of my favorites for its cleanliness and close proximity to me. read more

I can't really explain it, but walking in here feels like New York City. The aisles are cramped and jammed with product. It's like the items are trying to steal shelf space from each other. The smell is unique, which may have just been a one time thing, but I won't know until I'm back next time. The prices were not too bad for a location in the heart of downtown, so if you're in the area and you need a quick something-or-another, this is a decent place to go. The store was packed (12:45pm Monday) with customers scurrying around and employees and vendors stocking shelves. It was definitely a madhouse. But for its convenience, quickness, and decent customer service, I'll be back. I just hope that next time they'll have a complementary can of Febreeze and the front doors wide open. read more

This is a very convenient store next the Radisson Blu Hotel and other local businesses and residences in the area. The store has snacks, groceries, liquor and basic needs. The location is great and moderately priced. I really can't comment on guest service since I only saw one employee while I was there looking for snacks. Store Review: Unfortunately CVS does not have as many locations as Walgreens so I had to journey to this location whenever there is a CVS promotion. it is located on the Mag Mile a bit south of the shops and quite a hike. The store itself is super small and compact, however I found everything I needed. The downside is as other yelpers alluded to with the non-friendly service. They feel like they are doing you a service by doing their jobs. They also have security standing at the door watching like a hawk and treating everyone as a potential shoplifter. I think I will take my business to walgreens. This place is lucky to be alive. Oh I forgot also the photo department SUCKS with a capital S. I once printed a photo card here and somehow the card printing occurred at a slant. How in the world do you manage that with a automated system.... Never in a million years did I think I would be writing a yelp review about CVS but this one was absolutely terrible. Came here yesterday and left pretty annoyed. I got a $2 off toilet paper coupon yesterday (from CVS) and I went and grabbed toilet paper to buy with my coupon. For some reason the coupon wouldn't register, and the lady couldn't figure out the reason. There were no restrictions on the coupon at all. Her response? "maybe it's another toilet paper." What?! haha. I just left - the bait and switch was too annoying. There was also an elderly person that stood behind me trying to check out with the CVS person at the counter and she just refused to open for the elderly person - forcing her to try and use the self-check out kiosk even though it was obvious the elderly person was not comfortable with doing so. read more

I live around the corner so I wanted to make this my go-to pharmacy. Close. Easy. Convenient. So I took one prescription there, nope they couldn't fill it. Took another prescription there, nope couldn't fill it again. Took my son's prescription there, they couldn't fill that one either. Lastly took a prescription for a larger batch of an over-the-counter medication to them, they couldn't fill that one either. To be fair, I often have to go to several Walgreens to get my son's prescription filled, but the rest of these are not an issue at Walgreens. So I guess I will be walking the extra blocks to Walgreens. In winter that can be painful with the Chicago wind chill factor, but no choice. read more

I needed to pick up a few small items and found this CVS connected to the conference centre via a series of air conditioned walkways (which were really appreciated in the ridiculous heat wave!). I was greeted at the door by a very friendly man that worked there. He was extremely chatty. There were several cash registers operating and even though they each had a line they moved really quickly. The cashier was once again friendly and seemed efficient. I notice all of the negative reviews are from back in 2008. Maybe they had a management change? Or maybe I just got REALLY lucky? Perhaps I should have bought a lottery ticket!!!! read more

My first ever 0 star rating. I do not typically review stores, but my experiences here have been so horrific I'm making an exception. I have also written to CVS customer service about it. I had a run-in with a clerk, Juanita, back in the winter. I had a question, but she made me wait while she chatted with a delivery person, telling me (rudely) "you have to wait until I'm finished here". I waited, then she took another customer who she appeared to be friends with. Then she came to me, pointed her finger in my face and said "you broke the register, she broke the register!" to everyone else in line. She argued with me about the price and when I showed her where it was on the shelf she said "well you have to talk to a manager about that". I told her there was no reason to be confrontational and she said "I don't have a problem, you have the problem". I asked to speak to the manager. She whispered on the phone for about 60 seconds then told me he was on the phone with HR and couldn't talk to me. I said I'd wait. 5 minutes later I really had to get to work so I decided to let it go and never return. I ran in today, about 6 months later, to grab something during lunch. Juanita was there yelling at another customer who ultimately left in frustration without buying what she came in for (as I had done). As she was walking away she spotted me, got in my face and said "OH. MY. GOD." I said "yes?" and she gave me a dirty look and said "nothing" (dismissively). Clearly she remembered our exchange and her undertone was "how dare you come back into my store". It really shook me. That is not how I expect to feel when I'm shopping. It's shocking Juanita is still employed there as it seems she takes the same confrontational attitude with other guests as well. I have learned my lesson. I will continue to go out of my way to a Walgreens so as not to experience this kind of abuse. read more

I am a fan of this branch of CVS. It's not huge but has a variety of well-stocked items. In fact, I have been able to find products stocked here that I haven't seen at larger stores! I especially love their selection of salon-quality hair care products. Furthermore, I find that the layout of this CVS is better than other downtown locations, which tend to be just as small, but more cluttered or awkward. This CVS stands out in its staff. Everyone, from the pharmacy to the cashiers are very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. My questions are always answered promptly, and any problem I've had with a checkout machine or a coupon is solved quickly and easily. I especially appreciate the fact that at this branch, customers are greeted on their way in and thanked on the way out, every time! read more

All CVS's tend to be the same. This one is no exception. I ran in here yesterday when I noticed it was pouring outside. I waited out the storm and browsed the aisles. This store is super cramped and filled with people. I hate the design and the aisles that lead nowhere (I'm talking to you candy aisle!). The staff is really rude and surly. Their attitude was only matched by their inepititude when it came to closing a secured door that buzzed loudly nearby. While waiting the storm out, I found some yummy combos and milk chocolate peanut butter filled pretzels. The checkout seems like mass chaos and is a little confusing with the self checkouts nearby. I'm not one to review chain stores. But I can honestly say this was an excellent customer service experience. I felt obliged to point it out, especially since some previous reviewers had such awful experiences. I will say that I just picked up a few basic items. Hopefully, though, my experience reflects a genuine improvement in customer service. I was greeted by an enthusiastic (in a genuine, not fake way) young woman when I walked in. I've actually never been greeted at a CVS before- it was nice! I wandered the store, gathering items I'd forgotten or needed for my visit in Chicago. There were several employees on the sales floor, and every single one was polite and helpful. I found the items I needed quickly and easily. The self-checkout is really quite annoying as others have observed. It took a long time, and it seemed there was some issue with every item I scanned. Not sure why- my local store has self checkout and I've never had an issue there. But again, the young woman at the front was right there, trying to help me and the other 2 customers at the checkout (it wasn't working for them either), and still greeting every person who came in. And staying pleasant the whole time. Seems like they need to either fix the self checkout or move more staff up front to help when the self checkout inevitably starts beeping and telling you to wait for assistance. The woman was doing a great job- I just thought it seemed unfair for her to have to run back and forth doing so many tasks at once. Overall, though, nice store and nice staff. read more

Absolutely horrible service! Have been in regular contact with this pharmacy. Have been placed on hold for up to 20 minutes at a time. Staff is rude and patients have verbally told me staff are "Nasty to Customers", "The New management doesn't care and not helpful" Your company should recognize you are dealing with the public and many of the people are suffering with numerous problems. Your pharmacy should not add to that problem! Your staff should not answer phone and place them on hold with out courteously addressing them. People can understand you being busy but not busy rude and not helpful!!!!! read more

I have used this location to get photos printed because I work in the building above this store. While I have never been happy with the service at the store I have used it because it is convenient. I will no longer use this store. The photo clerk refused to give me my photos - that I own the copyright to - because in her belief they look professional. While I appreciate the goal of this policy (to prevent copyright infringement) its implementation is done on a whim by the desk clerk. Making matters worse, I ordered and had these same photos printed by CVS they day before. As a friend noted, it appears that if you take quality photos with a DSLR, CVS will simply refuse to print the pictures. read more
