This is the best Walgreens AND souvenir shop AND liquor store ever!!!!!! I knew a Walgreens on Michigan Ave was gonna hit right. I made my way to Michigan Ave hoping to buy some souvenirs but I learned from my time in Chicago 2013-2017 that Walgreens is the #1 place for all types of souvenirs. It did not disappoint whatsoever!!!!!! I literally bought like ten shirts!!!!! All priced at ~9.99-14.99 per shirt. They're so cute too, they're not tacky whatsoever. When I come home I want to rep Chicago to my greatest capability. I went to a few souvenir shops on Michigan Ave after this spot, and their prices were waaaaaay inflated, starting at $40 for a small Chicago plain shirt. No way, Jose! Walgreens is like the Forever 21 of Chicago merchandise. I even bought several mugs, all huge enough for my massive caffeine addiction, and so lovely like I got them at a quaint, home gift store. The staff was warm & welcoming. I also needed obvious drugstore items - mini hair spray, baking soda & salt for my homemade flu/cough/cold remedy, Bobby pins, leave in conditioner, more... The employee was underage scanning my hard pineapple kombucha (yum!) so the manager had to come. What an amazing store, they have this gentleman at the front door I believe his name is Jimmy he is a true gem. You ask him a question and he tells you follow me and walks you to the item truly amazing. In a day and age when employees are rude and obnoxious Jimmy is a true gem: I only see him there a couple of days I wish he would be there more often. This is a great Walgreens, most of the bad reviews seem to be from people who think that going to a corner store in the heart of downtown Chicago is going to be super duper fast no matter what. Tourists, what are ya gonna do given the area they are located in they experience a very high volume of customers all day, and their lines are still always moving quickly regardless of how busy they are. The pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are very courteous and helpful, and will do everything they can to help get what you need. Living 3 blocks away from this location I visit it on a near daily basis and have never had anything less than professional and kind interactions with their staff. Walgreens... a fun place? Yes, it's fun, because there are friendly employees who can help you find what you're looking for and you'll buy more things more quickly. Win win! Brilliant! Also, it's very busy, but things move along at a good pace. You might be tenth in line and then you'll check out in a matter of minutes. I often stop by to print collages or photos which I use to make cards. There are three computers in the back to pick and choose selections. The staff of Anna and Chandara are helpful in configuring the various settings and provide hands on suggestions! In addition, they also have printed out my photographs on site immediately after my submission which is nice so that I do not have to return at a later date! Check-Out is roped as there are many, many customers and a HUGE selection of Chicago Swag is available next to the rope area so it is difficult to handle all of the people. The staff is generally nice, the store is clean and most items that one looks for are available. The pharmacy is nice and quick with customer service. If it wasn't for the genuine greetings the managers and asst. managers offered as you enter the store, I'd take away a star. The layout of this store is weird, and hard to navigate. I've also noticed when other Walgreens have BOGO offered on vitamins, this one doesn't which is strange. It's always too crowded, but that' likely the location. Many staff members walk around but actively avoid helping you. It is very frustrating. I tried to pick up and online order and clicked on the message that I was there. Great customer service! I brought an old bag, in my coffee fell through it, making a complete mess in their checkout area. They were kind enough to get me a new coffee, not make me feel bad about my mistake. They are always so friendly so early in the morning. With the closure of so many big chain retailers, you would think that this store would make customer service a priority. Not in my experience. I have to wonder if the reason that these 'managers and associates' are not concerned about customer satisfaction is due to tourism keeping their doors open. Most natives know that this location is the absolute last resort for basic needs. While I will not share my specific ordeal to protect the identity of those involved, just know that I will not patronize this location ever again and encourage others who are seeking to spend their dollars responsibly to not shop here either. I just paid $20 for 6 tablets of 250mg generic cipro. I've NEVER had to pay more than $4 for this stuff in my life even without insurance. Pharmacist says it's location dependent and attributed it to "overhead". What a load of BS. Even my physician fiancé is skeptical - It's on the state of Illinois $4 list for crying out loud. This review is for both the store and pharmacy at this location only. On 4/18/22 I assisted a friend who had surgery earlier in the day and needed to fill his pain prescription. We were waiting for awhile- Probably 20 minutes before we were told they needed to confirm the prescription with his doctor due it being being an opioid and written by a resident. My friend needed to use the restroom, they pointed his towards the restroom and said he'll need to have someone give him a code to let him in. He waited and when someone came he was told it was out of order. There was no out of order signs and the employee said they must have forgotten to put it up. My friend eventually spoke to a manager and had the same treatment. My friend and I believe and feel he was profiled as he is a black man. His prescription had the proper DEA info needed , it should have been filled. They did not allow him to use another bathroom. You could see he needed to use the restroom and he was struggling standing even with the cane he was given. Based on previous visits this store does have homeless people visiting the store & the store probably tries to keep the homeless out of their restroom. My friend felt like they were treating him like a homeless person! We left and he was able to fill his prescription with no problem the following morning at the Wrigley Building Walgreens-no questions asked. My friend was definitely profiled at Store 211 the day prior. Mya, the manager called 5 days later to apologize but did not seem concerned about how my friend was treated. Do not patronize this store. When asked for information about the out of service restroom, such as when it went out of service and is it back in service she would not provide any of that information. Again it seemed to confirm the store profiled my friend as a homeless person. He is not, he was tired, dressed in comfortable clothes since he spent the morning at the hospital and was walking with a cane. read more

The cashier Shirley is an idiot. We tried to buy a magnet. She said she can't sell us anything without a sticker on it. The entire display did not have stickers and said $4.99. She would not ring it up then wouldn't stop talking incompetence. Long story short. They have 2 displays of souvenirs that you cannot purchase. Boule Mich W's (dubs)! This Walgreens used to kick it old school, going way back to a time (before you were born) when men wore Old Spice unironically and women bought pantyhose in white eggs. It's gotten a small face-lift recently, I mean, that's appropriate for Michigan Avenue, and other than the fact that it's teeming with tourists who can't seem to take two steps without stopping cold, it's a pretty nice li'l stop for necessities. The doorways are now airy plate glass and there's even a little Fresh Market. The lines have numbers and an automated message telling you where to go. In terms of layout and space, this may not be the most comfortable Walgreens around, but considering it's located at one of the busiest and most crowded corners of the city, that can be forgiven. What I'm struck with is how much better the staff is at this Walgreens compared to others. I am not sure what the secret recipe is, but after shopping here about a dozen times, it is remarkable how consistently friendly and helpful the team is here. Personally, I think the store would be well-advised to kill the tourist trap memorabilia and open some more space to serve the neighborhood, but the cashiers and workers here are definitely a step above your average Walgreens. (One caveat: For some reason, the consistently helpful nature of the employees does not extend to the back of the prescription counter--there, unfortunately, you'll find the same indifferent, aloof service you're probably accustomed to at other drugstore chains.) read more

The inventory and location is good, but the service is the WORST I've ever had at a Walgreens/Duane Reade. ALWAYS long lines not due to volume, but minimal cashiers moving slow. Cashier with blue hair asks "you wanna use your points?" instead of saying what the reward is. She then says the zip code was wrong. I say never mind then because it's taking too long. She responds by giving me the correct zip code-so why not just say that? Then tells me "sorry but YOU WAITED TIL THE LAST MIN" excuse me???? Wow! The location of this Walgreens is fantastic! This is pretty much the best choice for weary shoppers or visitors staying in the several nearby hotels for quick amenities. That being said: Customer service was horrible. The guy stocking the shelves knows nothing about the location of the products being stocked, I mean, just tell me that you don't want to help me. Next, standing in line, the clerks take forever to do nothing. They finish up with one customer, then take their swwet time before getting to another customer. I went looking for specific item for work with a friend. On the way out a young lady at the beauty counter asked if I found what I was looking for. In the middle of my sentence the Walgreens clerk interrupts me to ask my friend about her hair and continued to carry on a conversation while ignoring me. Even after my friend answered the questions and the clerk continued to stare at my friends hair which made her comfortable. When the Walgreens clerk finally decided to turn her attention back to the original conversation SHE started I said nevermind. The Walgreens clerk then proceeded to say "I'm sorry she (my friend) just stole your shine". What a rudimentary approach to an professional conversation. Was that supposed to an excuse for the rudeness or an insult? Store Review: Quick and fast! I am glad they remodeled the Walgreen in this busy area of Michigan Avenue. There are so many register and the service is quick to check out. Beside that, the shelves are well stocked with medication, snacks, and health care items. You can't go wrong. I would like to say that I have never used the pharmacy, but it must be nice having this right in the heart of downtown for tourist who need medication and other healthcare items. Pros- quick check out, friendly service Cons- expensive fresh food items, small aisles Hidden deals- check the weekly ads for items that have register rewards, you can couple them up with sunday coupons for additional savings. This is the Walgreens everyone knows about. With clear glass windows for walls, this Walgreens is transparent to their customers--at least they try to be transparent. Because of its location at Michigan Avenue, you will always be surrounded by other customers around you. I don't think it was ever crowded to the point of discomfort, though. If you have questions about finding an item you are looking for, several employees are on duty 24 hours, 7 days per week. In my experience, one of the employees disappeared for a minute and actually brought me the Gatorade I was looking for. They have fancy LED screens for cold beverage selections that seem to be completely unnecessary since clear door panels would serve the exact same purpose. But they're cool at first glace nonetheless. I had a pretty easy time finding the champagne and beer packs here, so I'm one happy camper. I hope others had similar experiences. read more

They will ambush you as soon as you walk in the door to buy a red nose but if it's going to children's charities what's wrong with that?
