The pharmacy at CVS on Portola Drive is not user friendly. Avoid it! Today, I stood in line at the pharmacy "Drop Off" counter for 5 minutes, while the pharmacy technician addressed people standing in the "Consultation" line. He saw me and knew I was there but completely ignored me. I spoke up and asked if he was going to take my prescription. He pointed me to the "Consultation" line without a word. In the past I have found him to be passive aggressive unhelpful and rude. He spent about 5 minutes entering my 3 new prescriptions. Then he talked to the pharmacist who came out and said he refused to fill the prescriptions because it looked like I had a copy of each, not the original!!!!! This was the original my doctor provided. I asked him to contact the doctor to verify them and he gruffly refused. And the pharmacy is frequently out of my prescriptions when called in. Last time, they sent me to the 19th Ave CVS for a pick up as they could not get the prescription in stock! Clearly, the pharmacy is overwhelmed, mismanaged and hostile to customers. *0* isn't an option! I've tolerated being a CVS pharmacy customer at 701 Portola, however, tonight was the breaking point. Customer service is WEAK at best. In the past week, I've talked to 5 people (someone was supposed to followup-HA), none of which have listened to details or they were unable to comprehend what I was saying, including tonight's pharmacist who hung up on me. OK, I yelled at him after a week of frustration trying to have a RX ACCURATELY transferred from mail order to retail. The consequence is that I paid $15 for a 30 day supply when I should have paid $20 for a 90 day supply. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere. read more

CVS opened yesterday in the Miraloma area. They didn't have any grand opening specials. From the outside, it looks like a good size drug store. It's certainly much larger than the tiny Walgreens close to Tower Market. However, it's not a large store. There are only 10 aisles and the selection isn't very good. It's got what you'd expect: cosmetics (Almay, Revlon, Maybelline, Rimmel, Neutrogena, Wet N' Wild, L'Oreal, Milani), pharmacy with a few chairs, refrigerated drinks (and some refrigerated candy bars), food, cleaning supplies, seasonal items, mailing supplies, etc. I'm sure the kids from SOTA will appreciate the new location even though the candy selection wasn't too thrilling. They have the teeniest Halloween section. Christmas decorations are already available. Update: Just received their grand opening flyer in the mail. Made appointment on line and went there w the whole family to get flu shots. Arrived on time for appointment and checked in on line, thinking that it was going to be a smooth process. But here is how the disasterous experience unfolded: 1- They only could pull up one of the four appointments, and so had us complete the forms again in paper format- the whole idea that it was going to be a touch less experience did not happen. What is the point of spending 30 min online and entering your info and insurance then? 2- They made us wait 45 minutes before they took one of us in. What is the point of appointment? 3- MOST IMPORTANT, the area that they administer the vaccine seems to be coming off from a pre-COVID developing country style: 3A- no social distancing; just a 5 ft divider w other customers standing behind the divider less than 3 ft apart to talk to the pharmacy tech. No privacy whatsoever, but again most importantly no social distancing in the age of COVID. 3B- "cloth" chairs!!! No wiping of the chairs, and they could not be wiped down because they are cloth. We sat where the person before us sat a couple of minutes before that. When I pointed out to the pharmacist, he pointed to the bottle of hand sanitizer! I told him that one could not wipe a clot chair w hand sanitizer, and how do I do that anyway? Use my hand w hand sanitizer in it to wipe down the cloth chair? 3C- The pharmacist placed the trash (used alcohol wipe, bandaid left over, etc.) on the chair next to where we sat. 3D- The pharmacist used a little table next to us to draw up the vaccine. Again, no cleaning or wiping between patients and not sure when that table was cleaned. 3E- worst of all was the attitude: "oh, sorry, but that's what we have." Reminding me of the current commander-in-chief comment, "it is what it is". Well, that's how all infections and coronavirus gets spread. This should not be the way it works for healthcare delivery. I'm an ICU doctor and work in hospital, and the only reason I went to this pharmacy was because I was going w my family. This is not how we deliver care in any healthcare setting. SF dept of health needs to inspect these pharmacies and ensure they are compliant w the requirements. This was a disgrace and this is how many people who go there end up being in danger of getting infected. I feel much safer when I am in the ICU room taking care of a COVID patient than when I was there. read more

NEVER coming here again. I got stopped here by an employer NOT wearing a mask who asked to see inside my bag. I'm a petite woman who has an invisible disability and who suffers from anxiety disorder. I just went in briefly to the store to see if make up setting spray was available, but was made uncomfortable by this employee that as I was about to leave, he stopped and looked in my bag. I've never been stopped in a store in my life and as I went there the next day, assistant manager didnt do anything to make me feel heard as a client. CVS on Portola is price gouging on covid tests. After standing in line for the privilege to purchase a test, they handed me two ellume test kits, containing one test per box. The cost for the two tests, over $80. That's four times what I paid at Walgreens. It's bad enough they are attempting to steal from their customers, but when I tried to return the sealed test kits, they refused. CVS is immoral. read more

Zero stars for the pharmacy if possible. The pharmacy ALWAYS has a LARGE line of people waiting. They never open a second register. They ask for your name and DOB which means anyone can listen and pick up your info. The female clerk always says thanks for waiting but is slow and inefficient by asking for the same info multiple times etc. An tall Asian male clerk has no customer service skills and basically barks at you. I have one prescription once a month here and do not look forward to going here. Today I waited 31 minutes in line behind two people. I wanted to do more shopping but I have balance issues and standing in one place for a long time creates problems. So basically CVS loses money when people leave after losing patience. I am a neighbor to this CVS on 701 Portala Dr in San Francisco. This CVS location is always problematic with their trash. They are horrible neighbors who have no consideration for the neighborhood they reside in. I have lived in the house behind the CVS since before they moved in. I never had an issue with trash on my side yard until they moved in. Ever since they moved in i have been picking up approximately two 5 gal buckets of trash off my yard every two weeks. This is due to the store not locking their trash cans and every night people go through the trash can, opening up bags for recycling, etc, and then that trash all gets picked up by wind and ends up on my yard. I have been trying to work with the manager Noelle on a solution for years but all my effort is for naught. Things generally change for 2 weeks and then its back to a yard littered with trash. I understand that its not CVS' fault that people are going through their trash but the bare minimum the store can do is lock up their trash or put a gate around the trash cans like all the other businesses on the block. The city has sent me three notices with threats of fines for the debris on my yard. This is not fair to me or my neighbors to have to clean up after your mess. I have been dealing with this for SEVEN years and now with the health crisis going on, i now have a HEALTH HAZARD on my sideyard. Usually it is mainly receipts and trash but lately i have been having to pick up used latex gloves and face masks. Scheduled flu shot for today. Arrived a few minutes early and was told one person in front of me. After last person received a shot the person giving the shots went away. After my appointment time passed I was told it would take 5-10 minutes to prepare the shot. After 20 more minutes and no update I told the counter rep I needed to get back to work. The worst ever in my experience! Staff apologetic but not helpful at all. Prescriptions are not filled on time and they make me come back multiple times. It is close to impossible to reach them on the phone - usual wait time on the phone is about 50 min to oven an hour. My doctor said the same, made her wait for ever. I frequent this CVS as it is close by, but I almost always regret it when I have to use the pharmacy. For well over a year, they kept refilling my son's prescirption without me asking them to and then bombarding me with messages to pick the prescription up - even after I specifically asked them no to. Yesterday, I went in to fill a prescription and was told it would take about 15 mins. When I came back, only one of the 3 meds I needed was ready and I was told I would be notified early the next day to come in for the rest. Had I been told when I dropped the prescription off, I would've just waited to pick all 3 up at the same time. It is now noon and I have been on hold with their pharmacy for going on 45 mins. Might I add, the pharmacy tech I dealt with yesterday was rude and dismissive, and wouldn't answer my question about a lotion my Dr. had recommended. This pharmacy is fantastic! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The wait times around 3pm on the weekdays are super short. They had my prescription in stock, the insurance went through with no trouble and their attitude was cheerful. This opened almost exactly one year to the day following the closure of the gas station that stood on this location since the 1940s. The architecture blends with the surrounding 1930s-40s neighborhood. Inside it's a medium-size CVS with all the things you'd expect. This store is nothing but endless frustration and inefficiency! The latest complaint is around an unsuccessful attempt to transfer a prescription to another city where I am working. Multiple phone calls and more than an hour on hold and I still am unable to get my med. The CVS app is unable to process my request. The staff are overworked and undertrained. A few months ago I tried to straighten out constant email "reminders" to refill my prescriptions. The store's only solution was to tell me to turn off all of the notices. CVS is taking over and they are doing a terrible job! read more

Four stars overall, 5-plus stars for the pharmacy because the 2 kindest, most customer service oriented pharmacists I've ever encountered work here. I had forgotten what a difference it makes to exchange niceties with someone on the pharmacy end who genuinely wants to know how I'm doing, and is eager to go the extra mile to help, including researching the cost of generic options (without me even asking) for a drug not covered by my insurance, which i could not afford to purchase in non-generic form. Yes, as others have said, the store itself is not particularly large, but it is certainly sufficient. Meanwhile, I genuinely value the kind, competent, friendly pharmacists who work here and have a hunch you'll feel the same way. The only criticism I have is that occasionally the customer service when you initially walk in to the store (non-pharmacy) is a bit overbearing. It is nice to be greeted, but perhaps not so forcefully. However, that may just be me...all I know is that it sometimes feels a bit more abrasive than helpful. read more

Horrendous. I no longer use this pharmacy because the service is so terrible. They apparently just do not pick up the phone - in order to call or request a prescription refill, you actually have to go to the store in person in order to talk to someone. This occurred SEVERAL times. At first, I gave the benefit of the doubt, but after dealing with this multiple times and not being able to get my prescription on time, I decided to call it quits. While this CVS Pharmacy helped me out in a pinch if I need medication the same day, I think I will transfer to online pharmacy instead for refill medication. I only pick up acne medication for my son, so it's technically not urgent but even when there's only 1 or 2 people waiting in line, it can take a LONG time. They have to handle putting through insurance, dealing with doctor's office, etc. I found an online pharmacy in SF that delivers for free. I had a shipment coming to me today that I paid the co-pay using my Visa. I forgot to give them my FSA card and asked them if I could change. They did and got my meds that day. So easy, why should I spend half hour or more going to CVS? read more

The folks at the general checkout counters are always very friendly and helpful. The store is well-stocked with all types of useful items. My complaint is with the pharmacy staff. I just had an extremely unpleasant experience with a pharmacy attendant: rude, unfriendly, unnecessarily impatient. ("So do you want a bag or not?") Whoever fills the prescriptions can't seem to manage to notice that I requested non-childproof caps about a zillion times and checked another zillion times to make sure the preference is listed in my record. At least I've learned to ask them to check when I pick it up instead of trusting that they've figured it out, then to get home and find caps that are so poorly designed I can't open the bottles. Not surprisingly, the person had to change all the caps today after I asked for a check. When I asked why this continues to happen I was told that the 'letter' indicating the plain cap request is so small that it's easy to miss. Really? Why don't you change your system to one that's legible and effective? When I found they'd given me the childproof caps after shoulder surgery I couldn't open the bottles to get the medicine out. I like browsing the store but HATE going to the pharmacy. It's almost always an irritating and upsetting experience to have to deal with the staff. I'm never coming back here - I'll find another CVS to get my prescriptions- even if much less convenient. I never want to deal with these people again. read more
