I bought cold medicine with pseudoephedrine and it was expired. I brought it back unopened box and contents and yet they wouldn't give me a refund nor store credit. This place is a scary joke and maybe running a scam. I went in to fill a prescription and specifically explained to the pharmacist that I needed one brand of generic medication over another due to the inactive ingredients used in them. About 20 minutes later, I was paged to pick up my prescription. I paid, walked out, and only when I opened it in my car did I see they had given me exactly the brand I had asked them NOT to give me. When I went back to point out their mistake, I was told it was my fault for not checking before paying, as if it was unreasonable to assume they were competent enough to follow clear instructions I had given less than 20 minutes earlier. I asked what the point of talking to the pharmacist on this request if it was going to be ignored and the blame pushed onto the patient. They had no answer. They THEN informed me that the brand I had requested wasn't necessarily in stock and had to be a special order, none of which they told me when I first walked up. So they still filled knowing it wasn't the one that I requested. They let me pay knowing this, knowing I couldn't get it back. I'm now having to open a case with my bank because I do consider this a form of fraud. Now I understand why this place only has two stars. It's not because customers are being picky, it's because this team simply doesn't follow directions, and clearly doesn't take responsibility. If they can't get something this basic right, I'd be very worried about trusting them with any serious medication. read more

Pharmacy made a mistake. Overcharged. By double. Our insurance company also spoke to them about the mistake. They were condescending, rude and interrupted us. They would not address the overcharge which was double the cost it was supposed to be. We have invested time and escalate this. We are lucky we have the bandwidth to be able to do that, but I think if so many of the seniors and people like my mom who would not know how to navigate such a rip off. It's deeply disturbing. The only reason this review gets two stars is because generally, I usually have a neutral experience at this store. My husband was discharged from the emergency department on Saturday 10/19, early evening, and a prescription for pain meds had been sent to this CVS. He has a broken fibula, aka, a broken bone in the lower part of his leg. I drove us to pick up our daughter a few blocks away in an attempt to have the pharmacy to even receive the prescription. Next I drove us to the pharmacy. It was 5:58pm. I was next in line. I gave my husband's name and date of birth to the person at the counter. He told me they were closing. Okay- but they weren't closed, right? The guy turns to the pharmacist and says something to him, essentially no. I speak up- the space isn't very large, and explain that we've just come from the ER. The pharmacist "Christina" (who refused to give me her last name out of 'safety' - errrrr accountability!) looked at me with disdain and said with the attitude of a 16 year old girl "we close in 20 seconds!" Again, I try to appeal to this person, explaining my husband's accident and injury. She insists they are closed- Except I'm standing at the counter where I can see 4 employees still working. She tells me "we can't sell narcotics after hours" but still with the same attitude. Another customer who had been standing there the whole time says, "this woman was here BEFORE closing". Christina tells me "you can call the emergency room and have them send it to another CVS." She does not tell me where I can locate a pharmacy on a Saturday in Santa Barbara that is open past 6pm. FWIW, there is no pharmacy open in our town on Saturdays past 6pm. She was not kind. She was not helpful. She lacked empathy. A pharmacist is meant to be a HELPING profession. I can imagine that after a long shift, a person would be ready to go home and would be frustrated by the folks who come in at the last minute for their medications. But IT SHOWED, and no consideration was taken for the emergent situation my husband had been in that day. read more

The store is open 24/7 as well as the pharmacy. Employees were friendly, the store was clean and well stocked.

I went there yesterday to get some items and pay them on the automatic checkout machines where I used my card, I hit the bottom to get cash back accidentally, so I decide to keep going , the problem is that the machine did not have money to give , and I asked Enrique the guy working there to help me , and he was super rude at me , honestly I feel like certainly kind of racism on the air yelling at me "I told you $&£€" , I ask the other guy on the cashier and he was basically covering his back sailing he was there and he didn't listen nothing , cause I just said, Enrique should be more polite and kind. I would ask the customer service to be more respectful with all the customers since we are paying to your store . I had a 4pm vaccine appointment. I showed up at the vaccine window before 3:55 because their website said my vaccine might be delayed if I didn't. I was told to go sit in aisle 28 and the pharmacist would be there soon. At about 4:03 I went back up and was dismissively told to go sit down; the pharmacist would be there soon. I asked how long--no answer. A little after 4:10 (by then 2 other people were waiting for shots; I suspect the pharmacist was waiting for that to reduce her number of trips ... so much for being on time for appointments) I asked again and the pharmacist said she was coming--surly, rude, unapologetic. I called her out and she said with my attitude she wouldn't give me the shot. What!? I cussed at her, went up to the front of the store, and got ahold of the manager. When I said the pharmacist should not be denying me service she was dismissive and said well you called her names. Another customer heading out the door overheard and said I didn't deserve to be treated that way and I wasn't the only one, but the manager refused to listen, continued to be dismissive, and repeated that I had cussed. So I cussed at her too and left. I don't plan to ever go back ... that's not the way to treat customers or run a store. P.S. I switched my vaccine appointment to the Carrillo store and they were prompt and pleasant. read more

I'm undergoing cancer treatment and my oncologist told me what skin creams to buy to help with radiation damage to my skin. I couldn't find what I needed and there was no on-floor staff to ask for help. Anywhere in the store. Not one staffer. I went over to the only staffed area, the pharmacy. I stood at the drop-off counter and no one acknowledged I was there. I did get to watch the pharmacist coughing, unmasked, mouth wide open while he was actively filling prescriptions. It's lovely that people will unknowingly take vital meds covered in germs, viruses, phlegm, and spit. At that point, I left the store in abject horror. I did see 6 cashiers at the front checkout joking around and ignoring the customers in line. Why do I even bother going there? read more

I am a regular as I live nearby. This CVS is always well stocked and I've been able to find the things I'm looking for with ease. I had a great experience with the pharmacist Mary a few weeks ago. I was in between insurances and Mary was able to get me a significant discount on one of my prescriptions that I had to pay out of pocket for. This locations hours are not correct! It says open til Midnight but they close at 10pm. Hope you don't waste your time like I did. It's incorrect on ALL platforms, including their phone number, cvs website and app. I sent in a complaint to cvs customer relations. Hopefully they fix it before more people travel out of their way for cold meds after 10pm. (I got there at 11:15, the door sign says 10pm). Ugh! read more

Standard drug store, good service. CVS came into Santa Barbara probably 12 years ago and took over many of the existing Sav-on and Longs Drugs locations. This particular location had been a Longs for years and years. I'd say both stores are pretty similar although carpeting dominates CVS stores. This store is located in uptown Santa Barbara. It's not the closest drug store to my home, but it's most definitely the cleanest. I have no problem driving a few extra miles to shop here as it's tidy, well-stocked, and fresh in general. I was in here today to rent a Rug Doctor machine. There is one main checkout line which branches out to multiple open registers. When I was there today, there were two open registers and I'll admit that there was a bit of a line. When I went up to the cashier, I expected some sort of attitude as the Rug Doctor rental process is a bit time-consuming (and frankly not the best use of time when there's a line). I received the opposite reaction from Nancy, the cashier. She was so pleasant and calm, fully focusing on me and not trying to rush me out of the store. Certainly not the type of service I'm accustomed to while renting one of those machines so today was a welcomed change. Kudos to Nancy! I will be back soon. read more

Was picking up after work and not feeling the best so I just gave short responses to questions about my prescription. Heard the lady pharmacist with glasses make a sarcastic remark about affecting my day to her friend back at the desk, and I paid at the register as my cashier shared a laugh with them at the joke. I'm shocked that they talked as if I couldn't hear them, and I just paid for my meds ASAP and removed myself from that nasty environment. Nearly all of my jobs have been serving the public so I get it, but you can at least save the petulance for customers who are overtly rude instead of quiet and distracted. I see many similar reviews on rudeness, I'd recommend having your Dr switch prescriptions to Federal Drug Co.! read more

The pharmacy here is busy and was unhelpful. Went to the "drop off" desk with a prescription the doctor gave right after surgery, and the woman who works here just says "we don't take prescriptions, and they know that. call them and get them to send it to us". So...what is the "drop off" window for, and couldn't they have made that call? Found a much friendlier pharmacy nearby and got it filled and also a clear explanation of usage from the pharmacist. This my local pharmacy. I go often. Lately the pharmacist has been incredibly rude and combative. He talk over me. Tells me to be quiet. Tells me to go to another pharmacy if I am not happy. I have complained through the Complaint Line at CVS. THREE times now. I am told something Different each time. It is Friday evening and I was told on Wednesday I could pick up my prescription on the 19th. I asked again when I was there in person. was given the same date. My Dr approved the refill. This pharmacist always complains about his job. The rules. How busy he is. Puts me on hold for almost an hour. Hangs up. Calls me back only to argue and talk over me. If I had a choice in Pharmacy I would go. CBS has a strangle hold on all pharmacies. Pushing hometown - Mom & Pop business OUT. And hiring pharmacists who clearly don't like their job. Aa a woman I expect the same respect as anyone else. This man has another philosophy concerning women. He only argues and tries to hyper control Women. It's a sad disappointment. I have been calling all week in order to transfer my significant account to the pharmacy. For the fourth time I tried following up on the completed transfer. The pharmacist proceeded to scold and yell at me for calling on January 1st. They were open. I was not ordering anything, I was not asking for anything. I simply wanted to confirm that the account had transferred. If she cannot take a phone call I am fairly certain she cannot handle an ongoing customer relationship. I cancelled my whole account.. Consistently and dramatically INCOMPETENT in the pharmacy. Some kind of problem every time and they bounce you between drop off and pick up at the drop of a dime. The left hand never knows what the right is doing. You get one set of assurances over the phone and dull-eyed disbelief in the store. Who does quality control here? Worst pharmacy experience ever. The entire staff is absolutely rude and unprofessional. They have 0 customer service skills and absolutely no regard for the customer. I went there to pick up a prescription for which I had received a message that it was ready. When I arrived there was 1 girl working the pick up register but she was somewhere else completing a different task for her current customer while the line built up. When the other two employees noticed the line build up the lead pharmacist was asked to open the 2nd register to assist. She walked over to it, stood there, stared at the line, then walked away. The other lady then came to the computer where the customer was waiting for the first girl who was assisting him and was extremely rude to him telling him he had to pay [because of the line]. The customer was a Spanish speaker who was visibly ill and she was practically yelling directions at him as if that would somehow make him understand her. Finally it's my turn, my prescription is nowhere to be found so they send me to the "drop-off" booth because they can't look up peoples information in the "pick-up" booth. No problem I go and the lead pharmacist locates my prescription which was apparently sent to a different location. She transfers it and it's ready within minutes. I then go stand in the pick-up line, again, to pay. As I'm paying I realize something isn't right. I point it out the the woman assisting me and she agrees. I know the prescription I'm picking up is to be taken twice weekly not 4 times a day. I ask her to double check with the lead pharmacist who tells her that it is right. Then I ask to speak to her myself and she tells me that it is right. I tell her that I know it's not but I'm going to call my doctor instead (since she clearly isn't listening) I pay then leave. In my car I have a physical copy of the prescription which I compare and sure enough it's the wrong prescription. I go back to the lead pharmacist, tell her that I got the wrong prescription and show her the correct prescription by then I'm annoyed and she can tell so there is very little push back. She finds the right prescription which was in fact sent to their store (why it didn't come up in the first place? I don't know). I tell her I want a refund for the bogus prescription that I received and she agrees but states that "she's making an exception for me". Great whatever just give me my damn prescription. I go wait around for my correct prescription to be filled. While doing so I witness a number of transgressions occur between the customers and the pharmacy reps. One lady was going through the same thing that I was going through and when she was explaining that it was the wrong prescription the cashiers started arguing with her. 20 minutes later my prescription is ready and I pay. As I do so I notice the prescription is still wrong but I don't care at this point. When I get in my car I open it to find that rather than give me the specified quantity of 12 the lead pharmacist (who fills the prescriptions) only gave me 9. At this point it's been close to an hour, I'm very late to work and I don't feel like arguing. I decide to call my doctor to tell her I'm going to need a refill because I didn't get enough pills and to have my pharmacy changed. TL:DR Find another pharmacy ASAP. Don't bother going there. Went there for things we need in these tuff times. The cashier Tiara, I do believe, was so sweet and kind. She made me feel the love. This was the second time feeling this at this spot. Once before a mother of a commercial fisherman was also very sweet and kind to me. She was also a cashier. Stacy's mom maybe? She was friends of Chris Brown. RIP. This pharmacy is run so irresponsibly and puts the well-being of its customers at risk by not enforcing any semblance of social distancing while customers wait in line for their prescriptions. The (extremely rude and under-qualified) pharmacist, Kara, said, "we put those markers on the ground but if people don't pay attention to them there's nothing we can do about it", as she looked over the counter at 25 people in close contact (mostly elderly and vulnerable) trying to figure out how to get their medicine as though they were at a chaotic fish market. read more

I picked up my prescription as I have for 12 years but didnt check the contents for accuracy. Then went to take my meds only to realize CVS had filled my prescription with a lower dosage then prescribed. I went back in an the pharmacist wants to argue with me. I did not print the label, I did not fill the prescription. Just change it out for correct prescription! And customer service! Inaccurate dispersion of mediactions!! Pretty bad first impression after several weeks new in town. It took them three attempts each for my wife and me to transfer our meds from another pharmacy. They send us automated messages about meds ready to be picked up, and when we go there they don't know about it. When asked, they will relent to checking in their system only to discover it should have been filled days ago. No apologies, especially from the weekend staff, only snippy answers like, "Well, we're ordering it now." Wandering off without explanation in the middle of a conversation, especially the staff on Saturdays. Pretty curt and rude. We're going to look into mail order delivery elsewhere. read more

Wow, what an unbelievable transformation this store has made! This store used to be a Long's Drugs. It was my go-to neighborhood drugstore, a one stop shop. It wasn't perfect, but the store was clean, organized, and had helpful, competent staff to help you, should you need assistance. Then CVS bought it... Overnight this store went completely to hell. Its always extremely under-staffed, and more often than not, there seems to be "complications" regarding my prescriptions. i.e. They screw up a lot. I don't think employees are incompetent per se, I just don't think they give a.... And whats up with all the candy! I thank god every time I escape this store without diabetes due to close contact to shelves spilling over with so much damn candy. For a drug store that advertises "Our businesses help people on their path to better health", it seems there's much more profit to be made by keeping their clientele un-healthy . If you finally get a chance to pay for your Rx, and you're anything like me, you just want to get the hell out of there! But wait, "Let me get your receipt.".......................... 48 inches later, you're left with enough paper to TP an estate somewhere in Montecito. They remodeled the store and put this ridiculous large area by pharmacy with overpriced specialty products. They are getting stricter about coupons, why send them to me if you won't use them. I have to watch the register closely because inevitably something doesn't show up on sale or a coupon didn't apply when it should have. It's kind of like Home Depot, you could die from a heart attack and nobody would find you until the morgue arrives. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. read more

WHAT a disaster this place is: - Ridiculously understaffed. Every time I am at CVS, there are 5-10 people in line with only one cashier. On a couple of occasions I had to leave because the line was so long and I ran out of time. - Their coupon system is insane. They have all of these random rules in fine-print like, "Only valid when you purchase these three other items," which makes people have to get out of line, track down the three items, and hold up everyone else. Also, there is always the classic, "I have 25 paper coupons, so let me sort through them for 5 minutes to find the one that applies to my purchase." They just need to have something like Vons where the discounts are straightforward, and you use only a card. read more

I have resisted reviewing the store, but after yet another horrible experience and asking to speak to a manager and not given the opportunity I have decided to write a review. The lines are always super long, the staff always seems like they are on another planet- today as 10 people stood in one line one cashier remarked as she looked out the door, "well that's a really fancy new Subaru"... what? After buying a product and leaving I opened it in the car, it didn't work, I walked back in and said, I just bought this and it doesn't work. The same cashier said, get back in line. I did only to be told to get out of line and go get another one. This happened yet again and the sheer amount of attitude, lack of help and the incompetence was beyond. It was mid day. I saw no less than 6 employees and yet, no manager. This CVS was a disaster to put it mildly. read more

This is the last time I will fill my prescription here. I had to pick up a prescription on Sunday. They are still the only local pharmacy who can't properly bill my well known insurance. To top it off, they misread the prescription pad. On Monday the doctor's office called them to 'clarify' my refill. Only this time CVS clarified one of the three medications on the same page. The tech told me I was incorrect as she read out loud the fax from my doctor and it had only one refill clarified. I called my doctor again to discover they spoke to the pharmacist directly. They never fax CVS because they are known to make these types of errors. I wonder where the mystery fax they read from came from. Back to Caldwell's on State next time read more
