It was alarming! I assume there must be a huge issue with opioid abuse here in this area, but people still need to be treated with respect and dignity. I scheduled what they called a new patent eye examination a week ago. I showed up for my…read moreappointment 20 minutes early on 11/11/25. I was waiting in the waiting area. I heard my name called off. The front desk receptionist informed me that the eye technician canceled my appointment right on the spot. Didn't give me any reason for it at all. Just canceled it while I was waiting. When I called their website phone number, I got a general switchboard type of operator. I told her from the very beginning I had undergone a successful cataract lens implant procedure on both eyes by a well-respected eye surgeon in Florida. I told her that my existing eye doctor in Portland, ME would not schedule me for a much-needed new eye exam. So, I could get new glasses to pass my eye test and return to work. She told me it would be absolutely no problem at all. We were on the phone for a long-time exchanging insurance card information. I asked her if I could be seen at the Windham location near my home. She explained to me there was an opening next week in Standish ME. I was so happy I was getting what I needed to return to work. I filled out their online intake paperwork. I answered each question accordingly. I also again put a lot of detail into what had been going on with my eyes. These people had two chances to turn me away. The scheduling phone call, and the intake paperwork. So why did they wait until I arrived at my appointment today to cancel it. I would only assume it was because they have appointments being made by someone who doesn't know what they are doing, and they are only reading online paperwork at appointment arrival times. This seems like a pretty sucky way to do business. I spent two hours of my own time and lost a week trying to get a basic eye exam for glasses. I am only trying to return to work, so I can pay money making machines like them. They are so involved with automatic endless text reminders, and operators calling from another country to remind you of your appointment tomorrow. They don't even have a clue of who the new patent is they are seeing. I understand they probably turned me away for some existing liability reasons. What cracks me up about this is that they charge you for a no show appointment fee. Then I show up on time for my first appointment, and they cancel it while I am in the waiting room. Then the so-called technician doesn't have the balls to tell me in person why I even got this far. I didn't get any apology whatsoever. I swear to everyone that reads this, everything I wrote is 100% accurate. I would never recommend Maine optometry to anyone. You simply do not treat anybody like this at all.

It was scary, I thought I might lose my vision which was getting blurry and deteriorating in just a couple of weeks. Since I was on Cape Cod dog sitting, I drove up to the Mass Eye and Ear emergency room in Boston. What a shocking disappointment, their ancient equipment looked left over from the Civil War and their ER doctors were literally running from room to room. After that strange appointment, I was more anxious about my vision. Then I thought to call and make an appointment with Casco Bay EyeCare in Portland. I'm a long time independent Medicare agent and have lots of Maine clients who are happy patients there. A week later, with little sleep and stressed out, I drove over three hours for an appointment with Dr. Amy Cyr. I entered their beautiful Old Port offices, hopeless and exhausted. I asked one of the front desk gals for a hug. Dr. Cyr led me into her office which was so clean, her equipment looked brand new and as up to date as could be. Dr. Cyr put me at ease right away and said she could help me. She spent over an hour examining my eyes from every angle, with the latest equipment that Mass Eye and Ear ER did not have! I had one of the worst cases of dry eye Dr. Cyr had ever seen, my eyes were a mess with irritation and thus the blurriness. I left the appointment with hope restored and deep gratitude. I immediately began a daily regimen of preservative-free eye drops in both eyes several times a day, which I continue to this day. My eyes retuned to normal within a week of my appointment with Dr. Cyr. On a follow up visit a few weeks later, I brought a bouquet of flowers for my eye hero, Dr. Amy Cyr and the good gals at the front desk. To me, the team at Casco Bay EyeCare in the Old Port, are eye angels. Thank you, above all, Dr. Cyr and also Kaylin, Liz and Debbie. Thank you.
