My visits to this Hannaford location are always pleasant but there is one cashier that consistently struggles to create a good experience. All other aspects of the store experience are consistently positive so I contacted the manager. I was open minded when I shared details and suggested that she receive additional training. Brandon Bowie (customer service mgr) took my feedback and went above and beyond to make the situation right. I appreciate his attention to the matter and the steps he took to make things right. I will continue to shop at this location and look forward to seeing the staff when I do! Same girl there almost every day on register and very rude. If I see her I will always use self checkout unless I have liquor and then I will just go to Shaws or Hannaford in Millcreek. The men that work there are always polite. read more

Ohhh, I do not like this Hannaford. Has anyone else noticed how moldy the produce is? It feels like when I've come here, I really have to look through any fruit or veg to make sure it's okay. The most recent - and now last - time I was here, most of the lemons were completely green and fuzzy with mold. I went to tell one of the employees and they shrugged me off with an, "Okay." Also: it's dirty here. And what's with the layout? I know this is a weird complaint, but actually I looked it up: studies have shown that a good in-store flow influences consumer behavior (so much so, that we spend more when we like the way things are arranged). Here? I want to get in and get out... if I can even find what it is I'm looking for. Finally, the parking. Lots of it, yes, but the parking lot itself is confusing to navigate since this in a strip mall area: soooooo many cars coming in from all directions. Go slow and be careful, friends! read more

A go to favorite of mine is Hannaford sushi. It's the fresh, easy and affordable. I have been an avid Hannaford sushi lover for as long as I can remember. Recently the South Portland Hannaford has stepped up their game. Typically I see common rolls and sashimi but today I was beyond impressed with their selection. Purple rice, sushi burritos, onigiri, were just a few new additions that I saw. I will be checking out the Portland Hannaford to see if they are doing the same. read more

I'm a little apprehensive to give such a positive review of this store for fear of ruining one of my favorites elements of it- it's hardly ever packed!! Don't get me wrong, people surely shop here, but it never feels like it's overly crowded like some of the other Hannaford locations in the area can. The store is always very clean and it has several self checkout registers. I actually drive past the Millcreek store to go over here because it's worth it to me. read more

Does Portland just have a monopoly on having the worst retail service workers possible? Basic common courtesy is the bare minimum I asked for. I don't need somebody personal shopping with me, thanking me constantly, checking to make sure I'm finding everything, but the one thing I ask, is that at least when I say, thank you acknowledge that I exist. The long haired young kid who is running the self checkouts who takes 10 minutes to come over to remove a lid protector from alcohol, apparently can't be bothered to at least muster up the slight bit of human decency to acknowledge somebody saying thank you. Hannaford Supermarkets is the supermarket that I often visit and generally I find what I am looking for. This visit I was looking for Bite Size Shredded Wheat and Seltzer Water. I quickly found what I wanted and then off to the self check. I just love the self check. Prices here are pretty competitive with other grocery stores. This particular South Portland store I find to be well stocked and organized. The only negative is getting to and leaving the store. The Mall area can be a bit congested. So, if you are in the Mall area and need to pick up a few groceries, then I would recommend stopping at Hannaford. read more

Just got back. Amazed how many people weren't wearing masks. Found a manager and voiced my concerns. Little wimpy guy could not have cared less. Said he could offer a mask but they might have breathing problems. Seems this store wants to make a political point instead of ensuring the health and safety of their customers. My group was actually looking for a liquor store, but the folks at a different store in the plaza said this Hannaford sold liquor, so we came here for that and bought groceries as well. This is a very nice Hannaford, very clean and well stocked, with lots of registers going and a large self-checkout area. The liquor area was actually several aisles, including an impressive variety of wines, plus liquors, plus a very large beer cave. This store was very convenient in terms of both location and provisions. read more

Rude staff. I went in to get groceries and when I was checking out I was asked if I wanted cash back. I replied "$10, please and can you make it a roll of quarters?" The cashier told me no. No explanation, just no. Then she said if I wanted quarters I could drive to a check cashing place around the corner. This place needs to train their associates in customer service. read more

This is whereI stock up on fruit, vegetables, and sparkling water while traveling in Maine. I love this location because it has a great deli and grill. At the grill, they prepare Mongolian-style stir fry and sandwiches. The prices are great, and the service is fast and friendly. This store also has a fairly big bakery with good local choices read more

Had a wonderful experience using Hannaford To Go for the first time today. This Hannafords is a little out of the way, considering there is one that is 4 minutes from my house, this one I drove 15 minutes to. My boyfriend and I went together while it was raining today. We found the parking area easy and the instructions were easy to follow. An employee comes out with your groceries in paper bags and loads them into your car for you. Then they swipe your card inside and you're good to go. Very quick probably 10 minutes total and we left. Giving up the cost of driving for a quick, and convienient experience was worth it. read more

I do not have a grocery store that I frequent, but there are things that I expect from a grocery store candidate. This location delivered on a lot of those expectations--helpful staff, organized, clean store, enough registers open to eliminate waiting, and a really cool walk in fridge for beer. Okay, the beer one isn't normally on my list but I thought it was awesome and I don't even drink beer. Unfortunately the meat and produce selections disappointed me. There were several vegetables that I couldn't find. I also didn't see ground poultry. I like my grocery stores to be a one stop shop for fresh food needs. The new Hannaford To Go service is great! Order online, then go to the store and they bring you your groceries. You get premium rockstar parking and you don't even have to leave your vehicle. Huge timesaver, especially if you're shopping for a family. Also great if you have mobility limitations or health issues that make shopping a challenge. There's a $5 fee but it's worth it, especially when you consider what your own time is worth. Kudos to Hannaford for offering To Go service at the Philbrook Ave store! A very welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more

I usually love hannaford supermarkets over all other chains but this store is infuriating with its new practice of forcing you to use self-checkout and battle a machine to classify and weigh every single piece of produce. Today the machine wanted to weigh my package of Oreos as if it were produce sold by weight and needed an employee to come override this. If you're in any sort of a time crunch don't bother going in this location. The last three times I've been in they've only had one employee-operated register open and it has had a line of multiple people. Going to seek out another hannaford in the area in hopes they aren't all doing this now, and if so....what up Shaws, you got a new customer. read more

You get superior customer service, excellent parking and you don't even have to leave your vehicle. You can get a whole weeks work of groceries and be on your way home in 10 minutes!! I frequently visit this Hannaford for small purchases. I've always used Hannaford Pharmacy, so this is a no-brainer for me. This store is always clean, always friendly, always stocked with great produce and meats. This store would get 5 stars from me if more local produce from the immediate area were available And if there were more than one or 2 checkout lanes open after 6:30ish. read more

The people at the customer service desk were rude when we wanted to cash a lottery ticket and found out the desk was closed. They could've been nicer about it. First, they ignored us for a while and when they finally decided to notice us they just flatly and rudely said "The desk is closed, go to a convenience store," then walked off. Then as we were walking away and were commenting on the early closing hours, one of the women behind the desk decided to chime in on our conversation with a snarky comment about how the desk closed early. They had one closed sign at one of the windows but the one we went to had no sign so it would seem like it was open. read more
