It reminded me of the Clearlake park near NASA with the water behind it, making it gorgous for a day at the park. I agree with the other reviewers that there definitely needs to be more shaded areas. I actually went up to a table that someone had left their stuff I just to sit at the edge of it because it was very bright but they need more tables with covered shade or shaded areas. I love to visit different parks in different locations but I'm always a little confused as to why there is not shaded areas even on top of the playgrounds because the equipment gets so hot in the summer and even in the winter is quite bright. The playground is great and my kids absolutely love the swing where a baby and older child could swing together. We also had fun with the faux tire swing. It was really nice to be able to see people jogging along the trails and women walking together on around the park-- I really enjoyed the feeling of community here.

The paths cover a long distance so you better be prepared to walk/hike with purpose. One of the more explorative preserves in the Houston area, the paths are mainly dirt/sand so if rains, it's gonna be a muddy mess, your footwear will get dirty. Hiking boots/shoes are the way to go. I haven't seen any bugs here like the other reviews mentioned but that's probably cause I'm here when it's sub 50 degree temperatures. Go and explore this one yourself; you'll be quite pleased! Unless you don't like dirt, in that case go walk on a treadmill!

People walk their dogs in the evening. So it feels safer than I first thought. If you plan a tour, please make sure you have insect repellent. My favorite part is the walkway that goes around the waterway back to the mall where you can get a nice view of the water and the landscape. There's also a trolley that goes through here if you don't feel like walking and you can rent boats for the water. But you'll get the best experience by walking here. This is my favorite place to exercise when I need some fresh air. Facts: The walking path is cemented and about 1/3 mile per lap. There are 4 sets of picnic table with standing grill. No public restroom. Has playground with modern slides and safety features Since it's attached to a school ground, it appears to be bigger. 2 tennis courts are not fully caged and they need a little TLC. According to City of Houston, this 7-acre park was acquired in 1958. I can't confirm but almost always true with public parks, picnic tables are first come first serve. I visited this nice walking trail that parallels Pillot Gulley near Louetta. The trail is 1.9 miles…read morein length and paved. It has a pedestrian bridge at one end to cross the water. At the other end at Louetta you have to cross the auto bridge on Louetta to get to the other side if you are going to make the 1.9 mile loop. Along the trail there are informational plaques that depict what kind of flora can be found here. Also every 250 yards or so there are sitting benches that are semi covered from the sun but not the rain. Best place to park your car if you drive here is on Rodgers by the swimming pool. My score of 3 means this trail is A-OK for you taking a walk or letting your dog walk you...it is a nice place to visit.

Pillot Gully trail is exactly what you need in a walk/run trail but no more. It is paved and the…read moresurrounding nature is manicured - so no rolling ankles or dodging branches. There are amenities like benches, trash cans, bike racks, and doggie waste stations. There is a crossover bridge on the north side but not on the south side. You could cross on Louetta where there is a short sidewalk, but I chose to turn around. The trail is short, a little under 2 miles, so not ideal for training. It does not appear to be lit, so I do not recommend coming here after dark. The trail crosses traffic once on Rodgers Rd, and traffic doesn't stop, so be mindful when crossing the street. There isn't an obvious place to park, so I parked by the pool on Rodgers Rd this time. I will try by the shops on Louetta next time. There is a neighborhood nearby where you could probably park on the street. I don't know much about the neighborhood, so I'll probably stick to the pool parking. Overall, this is a convenient place to run or walk when there aren't a lot of options around. I'll be back, but I will also keep looking. I also recommend Collins Park and Meyer Park for running/walking, if anyone else is looking for good places like I am! The lack of sidewalks and shoulders makes running a bit difficult around here, so I'm always grateful for a trail.
