Can't say enough about this place. We purchased our bikes here and the owner is so knowledgeable and can easily help you decide what bike is right for you. We also went back to purchase bike/spin shoes because the ones I got on Amazon did not fit correctly. Again the man who helped us...I think his name was Doug, was very knowledgeable and explained the differences between each shoes. He sized me and I've been using my new shoes for a week and a half now and they are fantastic! He also was able to tell us which shoes are good for in and outdoor cycling. If we were to go to any Dicks or sports chain store, I don't think we would have received the amount of help or explanation when purchasing items in the store. read more

I went in for an annual tune up after having a small puncture in my rear tire. I expressed concerts about front and rear disk rub, alignment, low responsiveness from my dropper post, and obviously the puncture. After two weeks they contacted me about my dropper post being damaged and I would have to purchase a new one for $250. Later that week I picked up my bike to find the brand new dropper post which work well however, my front caliper still had an audible, the true was sub par, and my rear tire was soaked in sealant and leaking in numerous places. After spending over $400 for basically a dropper post and install I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Lots of chances to try this, adjust, try that. Same deal with helmets: careful try on sessions that ended with them not having anything that fit great, so sending us elsewhere. Stopped by yesterday because I'd had a spill on my road bike -- hard enough to twist my handlebar in a bit and scrape the grip. Wanted to make sure it wasn't otherwise damaged. Service saw me in minutes, asked first if I was ok, then looked my bike over, assessed it, and took it out back to straighten the left handlebar and tighten things up. All for no charge! Could not have been nicer or more professional. I trust them with all things biking, and really appreciate the peace of mind I have knowing my bike is good to go. read more

Steep climb, narrow road, a bit of traffic, and a storm drain that ran parallel to my wheels were some of the factors that contributed to what I thought was a ruined wheel. I managed to get my bike to Cycle Loft (after going to the former store front on Cambridge St). I was immediately impressed. Tons of space, tons of bikes, a clothing section that didn't look like an after thought, good variety of saddles and the tech to help choose a good seat, it even had a comfy lounge area! Really, I logged on to talk about Steve. Steve worked on my wheel. I told him what happened, and he started right away (this was late morning, so maybe other times would be prohibitively busy for this kind of immediate service, but this was my experience). It looked bad. Then I took a little walk around the store, and wow: Steve transformed that wheel! It's true that a wheel is never really the same after some accidents, but I am no longer in an emergency situation and my ride feels basically normal. Really much better than I was expecting. All with a courtesy and customer care that is sometimes missing in a lot of other stores. read more

I had a great experience here with customer service. I went in for a bike helmet to replace my twenty year old one. I'd read online about the problem with online places like Amazon and Sears being flooded with counterfeit helmets and helmets from China that do not pass any safety ratings, and the consumer reports recommended buying from an actual brick and mortar store. That way you are sure you are actually getting a safe helmet from an actual manufacturer who has actually done safety testing. I was skeptical that they would have helmets in a low end price range so thought maybe I was just browsing and maybe all the helmets would be the $150-$300 type that serious cyclists use. In fact they had several inexpensive ones, starting around $40 and up from there. Josh was very helpful and cheerful and listened to what I wanted and did not try to upsell me. That was key to the good experience. I explained that I want to replace a basic helmet and I will be riding on paths with a five year old, nothing fancy. He reassured me that all the helmets for sale provide the same amount of safety, and as you go up in price you get more options like ventilation and aerodynamics (but didn't sound like aerodynamics were what I was looking for). True that. I pointed out a couple I liked the color in and he suggested I first find a brand that felt like a good fit and then pick the color after, which made sense. Apparently different bike helmets are slightly differently shaped, like shoes and feet and head shape etc. I tried a few and it was true, they all fit and dialed in but one brand felt better than the others so I bought one of those. I know I could have gotten a cheaper helmet online (but safety concerns about that :/) or a bit cheaper helmet at a big box store, but I wouldn't have gotten the help finding one that fit. I had no idea going in to it that a helmet nowadays will fit comfortably about as snug as a winter hat, and that like a winter hat even without the chinstrap buckled you can turn your head upside down and it won't fall off. Whoa modern world. Totally worth it to go in to the store and have someone explain everything and take plenty of tihelp me find a good fit. A week later my wife's bike had a flat tire in the middle of a bike ride with friends. I took it over to Cycle loft and Elizabeth in the service dept was great and fixed it right up on the spot. I'm not someone who "yelps" things, but I felt compelled after my experience at Cycle Loft. I have recently gotten back into MTB and got a prodeal on a Diamondback bike that I have put less than 50 mile on. After my 3rd ride my rear disc brake was really spongey and my rear wheel would not lock up and started making a loud goose honk like squeal. I looked up some videos on adding mineral oil and tried to fix it on my own, but ended up taking it to Cycle Loft after looking at yelp. I explained what was going on and was told that I probably had air in my disc brakes and they would bleed them for me at a cost of $40 (damn). I dropped it off, was told I'd receive a text and email when it was ready and I came back to pick it up. The mechanic said there was air in my line and it was all set. I paid him $40 and took it to the parking lot to test out....nothing had changed, the rear brake was still horrible, not locking up, and still making a horrible noise. I brought it back in and told the mechanic nothing had changed and that it would not lock up. He stated to me , "well it won't lock up", which it totally ridiculous. Bike brakes should lock up, especially disc brakes. He took it out into the parking lot to test himself...which is the first time I feel this guy even tested the bike. While he was outside a female mechanic attempted to up sell me, stating that the disc brakes that I had on the bike were weak and that I probably needed a new rotor...on a bike with less than 50 miles on it and a perfectly fine rotor. The mechanic came back in and said he wasn't totally sure what was wrong...I suggested new brake pads and he said that he could do that and wouldn't charge me for the installation. He replaced that pads which helped immensely, but my brake lever was still squishy. He stated that he rides his brakes like that, which I thought was sort of a lazy reply...just becasue YOU ride your bike like that does not mean I ride MY bike like that. He offered to try to fill the line with more fluid to try to tighten them up, becasue he wanted me to be happy...it helped a little but is not like it was when I first got my bike. Basically, I question if he even really got any air out of my brakes to begin with and was ok with just taking my money and letting me go with a rear brake that is not SAFE to ride. If he had ridden the bike originally he would have known that something was wrong...he showed poor business ethics and laziness. I hated how they tried to up sell me and the whole interaction required way too much effort to get my brakes to a rideable and safe point again. Just seems like a shady shop, that I wanted to like. Visited here to buy some spin class shoes and this is quite a place. Very large and for the bike enthusiast this is heaven. Loads of bikes and assorted accessories including clothing and other items. I went in this morning with my Trek 8000 which had not been shifting properly. The Tech took care of the issue within 20 minutes and I was off and running again. Couldn't be happier with the service and cost of repair. I honestly figured I'd have to drop it off and pick it up in a few days. I haven't been here since I bought the bike but it's every bit as great as it was when I bought it. Not only was all that great but the tech was helpful, friendly and gave me a few hints to keep the bike in great shape. Five stars isn't high enough for the service they provided. read more

I'm a big fan of this store. Owner Jeff Palter is a total bike geek and happy to share lots of detailed advice. Bought a Trek Domane on clearance sale and it's a joy to ride, lightweight carbon fiber frame and shifters that work effortlessly. I developed a problem with a bad disc in my neck and thought I would have to give up on road bikes, but Joel in service set me up with a stem extender for a more upright posture, works great. Outstanding! I can whole heartedly recommend Cycle Loft. My experienced centered on me being hit by a car in July near our apartment in Charlestown Navy Yard. The location is important because Nate, the manager, came to our apartment and picked up my bike personally and delivered it once they completed the needed repairs (he also made delivery when we bought my bike summer before last). The lady who hit me initially was paying for the repairs and was very applogic at the time. BUT I ended up needing to contact an attorney, Joshua Zisson (who I also highly recommend), to obtain settlement. Went there on a Wednesday afternoon intent on buying my wife a Trek hybrid and trading in her Trek cruiser. No one greeted us upon entering, and saw only one sales person helping someone at a counter. He didn't say "someone will be with you in a second." My wife and I saw numerous employees in what appeared to be a service area, but no one emerged to help us. We wandered around for 20 minutes; there was no one to help us. We left. I've been in Cycle Loft 3 times, and each time I've had an exceptional experience. As somebody who researches purchases perhaps too much, I went to at least 10 different local bike shops when I was thinking about buying a new bike. I never felt more comfortable anywhere else, and the knowledge, patience, and desire to help was unmatched anywhere else. Visit 1 I was just looking around for potential close out sales and expected to stop in for five minutes. Instead I ended up talking to Zach (a technician) for over an hour. He answered all my questions and taught me a lot about different components and frames. This was the first place where I didn't feel like the were being condescending or trying to dumb anything down. He answered my stupid questions, yet would go into as much detail as I wanted. Visit 2 I came in to try a bike I was considering ordering (I'm a large size). I once again spent over an hour talking to Lexi about different options and had a great experience. Visit 3 I came in after purchasing a friends old bike (I was lucky he was upgrading). After all the time they spent with me, I knew I wanted to buy accessories for commuting at Cycle Loft (namely a rack and fenders). I mentioned that my car was in the shop so I would be commuting as is until they could do the install. Rick was unexpectedly able to fit me in right then to help me out. The next day it rained during my ride, I was super grateful! Oh, and I was offered a Hoodsie Cup when it took longer than expected (and I was waiting after 'close'). Couldn't be happier. read more

I've been here for a number on times and each time I have found what I am looking for, but I've also left each time with a negative feeling that makes me not want to return. I've been brushed aside by a number of staff people on multiple visits. On my most recent visit, I brought a tire for an inner tube change (which seems like easy money for the store) and I felt judged by the mechanics for not doing it myself. During the same visit when looking at kid helmets the person helping me just disappeared when I had a few questions. It was 10:10am on a Friday morning and there was no one else there. The store has a great inventory and has what you need but the staff suffers from a problem of deciding who is worth their time to help/respect and apparently it isn't moms with little kids who don't look like serious cyclists. read more

The finest retail cycle shopping experience I have ever had. I became interested in a high end recumbent trike after test riding one owned by a friend. The nearest licensed dealer is Cycle Loft in Burlington....67 miles from my home in Plymouth. I also had a high end recumbent to dispose of and the owner Jeff is helping me with that. He took plenty of time to explain all of the product lines and steered me to an appropriate model and dealt with me on a personal level and I was fitted with an excellent product. The " delivery visit" was handled great with a set appointment and he took all of the necessary time along with test ride to make sure settings were proper. even helped me load it into my vehicle. I'm a cyclist with disabilities and needed a solution for carrying around my portable oxygen concentrator while I ride. It needs to be well ventilated and in front of me so I can change the controls as needed. Rather than scratching their heads and saying, "Hmmm, we don't have anything that will fit your bike," like other bike shops, these guys were up to the challenge, and an hour later I left with a front basket without giving up my handlebar water bottle cage, front lights, or phone holder. So far so good! When I first walked in, the owner (Jeff) greeted me, helped me for a while and passed me off to one of his salespeople, which was fine. By that time I had taken a spin in one trike I was interested in. Miguel put me on another (which the store web site said was out of stock), which I liked distinctly better than the other. Since there are a limited number of trikes in the low-middle end of the price range, and this one was one I had been considering, and pretty nice (I got a TerraTrike Gran Tourisimo), I bought it. I put a deposit on it, with plans to pick it up the next day. In the mean time they would install a few accessories. An hour later I got a message that my trike was ready, and ready to pick up (way ahead of schedule). The next day I went in to get it, and was greeted by the owner again, BY NAME (which is kind of amazing, though I guess he must have known that I bought something. This kind of thing must contribute to his success)! The techs were busy, but (Anthony I believe) gave it everything he had, and looked over the trike with me, explaining things and making a few tweaks. Then of course he took my money, for the trike and accessories, and I went on my way. I must say, EVERYONE was very pleasant and worked hard to keep me and their other customers happy. It may have something to do with my spending a nice piece of change, but I could not have asked for better service! read more
