this store is a scam. some bikes are good deals but the service discusts me. My friends tube broke and a repair kit cost about 5 bucks. after we walked in the shop, we told a guy that the tube had broken and he took the bike in. the man aggressively took off the wheel, making the rotor damaged in the process. Then, he added a patch kit to the tube. At the time, I thought it would be just paying for the repair kit because he had Never Mentioned A Price. once he was done, he put the wheel back on for another 10 minutes wasting our time and refusing help when we offered it. Then, he walked up to the register and told us it was 35 DOLLARS for a single tube repair, KEEP IN MIND A new tube only costs about 5-10 dollars and is way easier to install. An amazing place for bike fittings, and service in general, as well as very competitive pricing. I was beginning to get chronic wrist pain from longer rides. I checked around with the pricing of every local shops fitting in the area and these guys not only had the best price, but also gave me a cleat fitting and took more time that makes any sense, and were gracious and informative the entire time. They made a few adjustments and a few recommendations. I followed them all and and riding has never been more comfortable. Their advice for my daughters XC ski gear was so spot on. I recently purchased a bike and a bike rack from this shop. I am a recreational biker not an avid cyclist. The reviews of the bike shop here fit my experience exactly. The equipment that I purchased was great and I am very happy about it. The manager that helped me was knowledgeable, but not pleasant at all. He was condescending and seemed a bit angry or rushed (though I was the only person in the store). Overall, he did not have a very good personality. Thank goodness he is not someone I have to talk to on a regular basis! lol. I am not sure if I will continue to purchase from them. read more

I am finally done with this place. I'm sick of being punched in the face. Man who fixes bikes is downright grumpy and rude. Today I wanted to drop my bike off to get a tube replaced. I walked in. No one asked me if I needed help. I finally asked where to go. I was pointed to the back. The man was fixing a bike. He Looked at me many times but never asked what I needed or told me I'd have to wait or if I could just drop it off. I asked another associate if I had to wait for him or if one of the other people putting inventory away could help. I was told to wait for the man in the back. After being in this store for almost 40 minutes with not one ounce of help, I left. This time for good. read more

Bikeway Source is truly a bike shop as good as it gets. Everyone who works here, from Chris and Eric, the owners, to Randall, the head mechanic, to the teenagers, are pleasant and helpful. Customers do not get ignored when they come through the door - they are greeted, then they are assisted. Being at the northern end of the Minuteman Bikeway, they get every kind of customer, from the flat tire to the man or woman looking for a new bike. Bikeway Source is a Giant dealer, one of very few on the East Coast - it's way bigger on the Left Coast, perhaps because it's in Taiwan. Giant is the largest bicycle manufacturer in the entire world, and they make gorgeous bikes. I know, because I bought one from Bicycle Source, a sleek, fast carbon fiber baby which I dearly love to ride. Somewhat coincidentally, I've written a novel that centers on bicycling - it's called "White Bike" [to be published in spring, 2016] and concerns hit-and-run drivers killing cyclists on city streets [223 in Boston this year]. Every time over the past year or so that I've gone into Bicycle Source, one of the guys says, "How's the novel going?" and we talk about it, and Giant, and bike-touring in Taiwan. This is more than exceptional service. This is a personal relationship that goes beyond just selling me something. A final note about the comment by P.C. In my experience, there is nothing truthful about it. This is probably spam, because the person comments on the "many bike stores along the minuteman bike trail." This is a great bike shop right at the end of the Minuteman Bikeway in Bedford. You can't miss it! It's really an unbeatable location, not to mention super helpful when you have one of those roadside emergencies we all dread... In fact, of the 3 times I've been here, 2 have been "emergency" situations, one involving my brake essentially falling off (I needed a new bolt), and one involved a flat tire (I needed a new tube). Each time, I came in needing a pretty small, inexpensive item, and the staff were always very helpful, and didn't seem to hold it against me that I wasn't there to buy a big ticket item. The prices here are better than others closer to downtown, and it's chock full of bikes, parts, and tons of fun accessories. It's not my ideal shop because it's not edgy at all, but instead tends to cater to the road cyclists passing by, and the soccer moms looking for training wheels for their 4-year olds. But whatever, that's their niche, and they do it well. Being attitude-free and not hating on the tattoo-less folks is a rare, wonderful thing these days. Hopefully you won't have an emergency like me, but I'd recommend popping in to browse and chat with the friendly staff the next time you make it to the end of the path. read more

Very helpful. I seemed to be having a problem with my derailleur while I was pedaling on the Minuteman Bike Path yesterday. When I reached the end of the bike path in Bedford, I brought my bike into The Bikeway Source to see if they could check it for me. I wheeled my bike to the back and the mechanic (owner?) immediately took it and thoroughly checked out the shifting mechanism. He said that it looked fine to him. Then he gave me some tips on shifting so that I could avoid the problem that brought me in. When I asked him what I owed him he said, "Nothing." This was in spite of the fact that he had been working on another bike when he stopped to look at mine. Expert knowledge and great customer service. What a combination! Note: I had taken the same bike to Quad Cycles in Arlington the day before. They did not check the shifting mechanism but they did tell me that my bike needed at least $65 worth of work. When I questioned the mechanics about the specifics of this work the owner told me to please take my business elsewhere. This experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. read more

They sell cross country skis, too! One of the few (only?) places in the area that specializes in Nordic rather than downhill equipment. (In fact, I don't think they carry any downhill gear). From recreational to racing setups, and both classic and skate skis. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. Though the day I was there they were also understaffed, so a bit slow. read more

This is my go to bike shop. They go above and beyond just selling bikes. When I bought my new road bike here I wanted to sell my old Giant OCR. Chris knew of a guy wanting a bike with disk brakes to do some winter commuting. Chris put it together and the buyer and I were both happy. Late last summer I bought my 4 year old daughter a small cannondale with training wheels that she just wouldnt ride. This summer I returned and ordered a Burley trailer bike, which my daughter loves, and again Bikeway Source came through. They gave me a full credit for the cannondale trainer (it literally had less than an hour of use). I also have nothing but praise for Randy and the other mechanics. They're not only excellent mechanics they're patient and helpfull. They always take care of drop-ins to get folks back on the road/trail whenever possible (assuming no major work is needed). read more

The guys at the Bikeway Source listened to the problem, fixed it right away and never made me feel foolish or like I was wasting their time. Nice location, surprisingly large inventory, no idea of the selection (I just walked through to see the bike apparel, didn't really look at he bikes). The prices are no better than other places, though, and the staff weren't friendly. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I feel like the customer shouldn't have to be the one to say hello first, and where no, I didn't need any help, it would've been nice if they'd asked if they could help me. This isn't my main bike shop, as I don't live nearby, but my experience has been positive. I bought a set of panniers there that had a manufacturing defect. The mounting system used a bungee that was tied off too close to the end. When the knot popped (while crossing Mass. Ave) it threw the pannier into my rear wheel. They replaced my wheel with a used one they had and trued up mine for free! Way to take responsibility, even when it's not your fault. read more

Maybe its the fact that I go in there looking like a yuppie-tool in my bike shorts asking for $1.50 worth of goods, but most of the times I am ignored. You would think the silly outfit would force them to at least acknowledge my presence, if only to laugh at me. With that said, good selection of bikes, bike snacks, drinks, and anything you need. My family has purchased two bikes and numerous pairs of Nordic skis and associated gear from Bikeway Source. Chris is THE expert on Nordic skiing in the area (of course he knows bikes too!). I am consistently impressed with how much time he gives to the community. He is always willing to share his knowledge, and almost everything I know about ski waxing, I've learned from him. I also appreciate his straightforward recommendations, including what *not* to buy. Going to Bikeway Source saves me a lot of time: I don't feel like I need to do hours of my own research because I trust Chris implicitly. In short: I moved and am looking for a new bike shop. After taking my bike to get serviced here, I am still looking for a new bike shop. In (very) long: Took my single speed bike here to have fenders removed, brakes adjusted, and wheels attached. Stuff I was having a hard time doing myself They called me a week or so later, saying the bike was ready for pick up. I went, paid the $30 (which I thought was reasonable), and when I hopped on my bike to give it a test ride in the parking lot, noticed that the rear brakes were sticking, and more importantly noticed that they did not test ride the bike before giving it back to me. That seems like a key step to gloss over. Brought the bike back in. Eric, who I believe is the owner, took a quick look and then told me he didn't have time to look at that time because he had important orders due soon (this turned me off-- sure, my business was only $30, but cmon. Your business just returned a non-functional bike to me), but that he'd call me later, and did seem disappointed that his employees didn't test ride the bike. He called later that evening, said the brakes were busted (no wonder I struggled to do the work myself) and that he'd find and source new ones (difficult ones to find since it's a strange model bike I guess). Nice guy. A few days later, I got a call to say that my brakes were in and I could come pick them up. "...are they on the bike," I asked. "Oh... no. We'll call you back when they are." A few days later, they called me back, and I went back in. Brakes were on and good, but once again they didn't test ride the bike before giving it back-- I noticed that the chain was too tight. The kid working the register said it was fine, and then another kid came over, actually touched the chain, and agreed with me. The bike mechanic quickly adjusted it and I went on my way after giving them some grief about feeling double-charged for work that wasn't done to completion either time (they did give me a break on the labor costs, which I appreciated). So overall they did what I needed them to do, but the fact that they don't test ride bikes before returning them is not a quality I want in a bike shop. The people were generally nice; great stock of bikes and gear. Great location. I had high hopes for this place, but if they can't pay attention to getting the very few moving parts on a single speed bike just right, I definitely hesitate to bring my road bikes in. read more

I don't recommend this place. I know one of the managers. Great guy. But the bike mechanic has no clue. I went there three times because I had repeated flat tires. After the first one, changed the tube. Second one. I noticed metal inside the tire. Which they didn't notice. Went in to have it physically removed. Then Third flat. They changed out the tape on the wheel. I kept asking for a new tire. I wanted a new tire. 3x is not the charm. The mechanic said this would fix it. No one looks at the tire. So I have flat number 4. I am in a neighborhood trying to change it out. A guy comes out of his house. Helps me. Shows me all the metal stuck in the tire on the outside. He leaves. Shows back up with a new tube And a tire!!! Problem fixed. This shop missed the boat big time. read more

Last summer, I started cycling. Being a newbie, I did not need anything fancy or expensive. Just something to get me going until I figured out if I was going to stick with it. The first shop (*cough* Wheelworks / WheelJERKS *cough*) I tried was very unhelpful. The salesperson was attentive...until I mentioned my budget and needs. When he realized that I did not have an open wallet, his eagerness to help me disappeared. I left the store empty handed and disappointed. My coworker recommended I try Bikeway Source, and I am so happy that I heeded his advice. The salesperson, Chris, was great. He understood my needs and worked with me to find something within my budget. He never ever pressured me to buy anything. He was very patient with my many newbie questions, and he offered a lot of useful advice about everything from equipment to good rides to try. read more

When I decided to start participating in triathlons, I knew I needed to address the bike issue. My very-petite mother had given me a gorgeous beautiful bike that I wanted to refurbish -- but everywhere I went they told me it would cost too much, and I should buy a new one. Then I went to Bikeway Source, where Chris told me the same thing. But he actually showed me the research: how much did the bike cost, how much was it worth, what was its replacement value. And then, most importantly, he explained to me why a bike that was just right for a woman who was half a foot shorter than me wasn't going to work for me. He took his time, and helped me get over my disappointment. Then he helped me pick a new bike -- one that was perfect for me. A beginner, but with room to grow. Something the right size, something light, something not too expensive. And I got a good vibe and trusted him on it. AND: every seasoned biker/triathlete who has seen my bike has said: AWESOME bike. So I'm very happy that the advice I got was good advice (also: I love the bike). Check it out. Ask for Chris (although I suspect other people there are also great, so don't diss them, either). I was there today looking for my first road bike and found one I am very interested in. Ask an associate about it, was friendly and helpful and talked about the price and sizes. Then i was passed onto another associate that held onto my license while I went out to test drive the bike. Everything was smooth and excited so far. When I was done with the test drive I went back inside. I said I love this bike and I will buy it. Rang it up in the cash register and ask if I also want any accessories, I said not today. Then they told me the price is WRONG! They told me it should be $2,000 MORE! Yes! $2,000 More!! Are you kidding me! Waste of my time! How would the price be wrong and the first associate never tell me about it and he even went on the computer to check sizes for me and he even said the price that was on the pricetag to me that it was the price! "I would never never never go back and would never never never recommend them to my families and friends. I would rather pay $2000 at another shop just for their honesty to their customers. read more

We called them on Weds evening to find out if they'd be open on July 4. When a live person, not a recording, said yes we loaded our bikes and brought our out of town guests down to rent bikes. After driving from Nashua, The shop was closed. So rude - we would've rented at the fab Gooddale's bike shop,in Nashua had we known. We've rented bikes from Bikeway before and the service is very basic. Not particularly friendly or helpful. But, hey, it's the only place to rent...so they take advantage of their customers. read more

They're right at the end of the minuteman. Go on a monday early afternoon ride up to the Farmers Market, or further, they're right there in case anything happens. Their location is great. Now, if only the staff was as enthusiastic as everyone outside during the market. Rental selection is not amazing (frankenstein combinations of unwanted parts or models). Definitely call a head to make sure they have bikes in stock. But, beware. they don't take reservations so it's possible they will be gone by the time you get there. If you're in a group of more than two, one of you is likely to get a clunker. They did a fairly decent job and their service was reasonable to good. I had a fairly new frame that needed everything so I decided to use Bikeway. Everything was going to be new parts and the only thing I provided was the frame. I dropped over $ 3,000, in my opinion fairly high end components. Shifting was always slightly off, they could get it close but never get it spot on. Chris was the sales person and I told him I wanted Campagnolo components (Chorus). A year and half later I took a bike mechanic course and we were rebuilding the drive train at Wheel Works in Belmont. Their top mechanic who was teaching the class and figured out what they provided (it threw him for a loop) The rear cassette was a Shimano with small bushing to makeup the gear clearance (Shimano cassette and a Campy derailer; the derailers were all Campy). In his professional opinion they got a lower priced cassette to save a few bucks. Once we removed the bushing and put on a true Campy cassette it worked SPOT ON. It's now what I would expect of a high end system. Too bad they skimped out and tried to save $ 50 bucks. In the long run my next bike was purchased somewhere else, over $ 7,000. I would not recommend a shop that endorses those tactics. read more

Sent an email asking if they had 2 bikes in stock, received a response same day. Went in the following day and both bikes were there, ready to be tested. Spent almost 45 minutes testing a couple bikes, no problems. Sales staff was helpful and friendly, not pushy at all. Decided on the bike and they honored the online sale price of the bike. The mechanic gave the bike a once over and we were on our way after about an hour. Free tune-ups for 1 year is a huge plus as well. read more

I've been going here for years, really since they've opened. There is no other shop for me; the combination of good service, longevity, reasonable prices, and deep product knowledge is great. They stand behind their work. This year they built a Mt Washington hill climb bike for me that far exceeded my expectations. Building one of these bikes takes a lot of in depth knowledge, you can't just slap a 22 tooth chain ring on any old crank and call it a day there is a lot involved. Chris nailed it, and took the time to explain the options and the best choices based on my constraints and what I wanted to do in the race. They are also one of the only shops around with a deep understanding of XC-Skiing which far exceeds what you'll find at your typical Nashua ski shop. Beginner, kid, racer, it doesn't matter.
