I have never done a cycle class before going to a yelp event here. I was surprised by it! At first it felt a bit awkward for me because I typically do weight training at the gym or do solid core and pure bar too. It was fun to ride to the beat of some pumped up music. The class coach was awesome too. So much great positive energy in that room! I felt empowered and fueled to do my best during class. Its a great workout that is not too difficult and you really get your heart rate up and a good sweat going. I enjoyed getting to turn my mind off and focus on the workout.

Fantastic high energy spin class workout! Welcomed warmly with friendly staff to help you check in and get fitted properly on the bike if you are new. You won't feel embarrassed if you are inexperienced. The class instructor brought in the mojo and got the class thumping along to the heavy bass music. Surprising full body workout with core and arm exercises included. Great time!

I was introduced to Cyclebar through a Yelp Elite event. My initial experience was nothing short of empowering and amazing and I vowed to return for another ride. My husband and I decided to do a weekend drop in class. The schedules are available online. We were even able to select our seats. The classes do get full and I recommend reserving ahead. The studio is located in Redmond Town center in the second floor just across from Macy's. The studio features amenities such as lockers, showers, towels, cycling shoes, and even chilled filtered water. I recommend arriving early to allow time to stretch and complete any position adjustments to your stationary bike. Our class was 45 minutes of pure pedaling on Schwinn stationary bikes. Our stats were displayed on two large LCD screens. What sets this experience apart from a standard cycling class is the atmosphere. The mood lighting, soundtrack selections, and instructor encouragement all make a difference. Cold towels along with high fives were provided after classes. I'm impressed with the customer service, enthusiasm, and the details that goes in every ride. I even received my ride stats and the soundtrack in my email box.

I have been searching for a gym that has reasonably priced cycling classes for a while now and I'm so glad I came across CycleBar! I don't think I fully knew what I was getting myself into with these classes - they are HARD. When I attended my first class they greeted me and gave me a tour. They had a locker with my name on it and gave me shoes to borrow for class. One of the instructors helped me find my bike and get set up. It's a pretty small space and can get a bit crowded since there's about 40 people in every class. They have bathrooms and showers with everything you need to get cleaned up which is a nice touch. CycleBar offers a variety of different classes. So far I've tried the Classic, Connect, and Empower classes. Some focus on your stats while others focus on the movement. The music is always loud and the instructors are incredibly inspiring and encouraging. There is a strong community feel, and that definitely helps me look forward to going. The only downfall is I really wish they had a location farther south like in Burien or Renton. I work in Bellevue and usually go to the Redmond location after work, but I would likely attend more classes if they had a location closer to where I live.

I went to CycleBar during their grand opening and free class offering. This cycling studio is located at Redmond Town Center on the second floor, right by the Macy's sky bridge. You book the class online in advance and reserve your spot. It really reduces anxiety about not getting a good spot. All of the bikes face forward to the instructor, but there are two pairs of bikes on either side of the instructor that are a little isolated. I'd personally not want to be there, as you can't see the screen very well, and everyone else is facing forward at you. When you arrive, you pick your bike shoes out. They run a little big, so I usually wear a 7.5, and a 7 still felt slightly loose on me. You also use a tablet to check-in for your class. Since it was the grand opening, there were a lot of staff members eagerly waiting to give you a tour and walk you through the whole process. There's multiple showers with nice amenities (shaving cream, razors, Q-tips, shampoo, etc.) and single stall bathrooms. These are your changing areas. The open area has lockers that allow you to make your own 4-digit combination. Don't worry, if you get locked out, a staff member has keys! Before you go into the cycling room, there's a water machine with cold and room temperature water, which is pretty nifty. While this is only about a 40-50 minute class, I'd recommend filling up your bottle to stay hydrated. Once you enter, you find your bike number, which is labeled on the front. If you have trouble snapping your shoes into place or adjusting your bike height, there's a staff member who can help out. Once the class starts, it's go time! The music is pretty loud. In fact, the instructor even offered ear plugs upon request. I thought it was fine, but I could see how it could possibly bother someone. The genre is mostly pop, with some rap and a few older songs. As you're riding your bike, you can see stats: power, distance, and revolutions per minute (RPM). The staff also leaves small towels on the bike to wipe yourself down when you get sweaty. Ahead of time, you can opt-in to show your cycling stats on the two large monitors at the front of the room. It will show your username, bike number, ranking compared to others in the room, and a few other stats I couldn't really understand. While I was in the front row, some of it was still hard to read, and the column headers were tiny symbols. He only shows the screen a few times, so you don't have to get too caught up into out-cycling your peers. A couple times he had mini competitions between the three rows with live tracking, which was cool. The instructor walks you through the class, telling you how much resistance to have and how fast you should be peddling. You also may go into different positions: first is sitting in the saddle normal, second position is standing straight up, third position is leaning forward and grabbing the handlebar more forward. A few times throughout the class, the instructor had us adjust our positions. You are always changing variables, but the ultimate goal is to challenge yourself so you get the most out of your workout. His name was Tommy, and he had great energy and positivity. There is a small four-pound weight you work with near the end doing a few arm exercises. I would have liked to have seen a lighter and a heavier option for all fitness levels, but the arm workout goes by so quickly, it really isn't that bad. After you're at the end of class, you do a few stretches, some standard upper body ones while still mounted on your bike, and the final ones on the ground. They really don't last very long, but you're welcome to stick around longer to maximize your stretching. When I left the cycling room, an employee handed me a wet towel with lavender scent, which was a nice touch. After your class is over, you get an automated email with your cycle stats. It is a little pricey (check their website for their rates), but it was a good experience. Look online to see if they are offering any specials, especially around their grand opening.

The class formats are really fun-lots of variety and each week builds on previous classes so you feel like you're learning and getting the hang of things after a week or two. Walking into the studio is also just FUN- so inclusive, fun music and lights, and super supportive instructors. My favorite classes are Bands with Elise and Dance with Chris! I feel like even after 2 weeks of consistency I already feel like my endurance is improving and I was able to advance to a more challenging resistance band in the Bands class. Looking forward to seeing results once I keep up the consistency!

I went to my first class a few weeks ago and this was the first fitness class that I thought about walking out before it ended. Don't get me wrong, the studio is awesome and has a nice vibe - the staff is super friendly as well. But this didn't feel like dancing...it was more like...how would I describe it... choreographed fitness steps for suburban housewives with no rhythm. Ah, there we go. Instructions were super fast and hard to follow, the music didn't match the vibe of the dance.... ie: attempting to dance hip hop style to a Jackson 5 song. (I use the term hip hop style loosely because I *think* that's what they were aiming for.) I'm glad I went though..I'd been wanting to try AKT for a while but learned it was not for me. I think this could be a great place for a specific demographic, though.

The space is completely unpretentious and has a great, "scrappy" energy that makes you feel welcome the second you walk in. Coach Alex is incredibly knowledgeable--I spent half the time just watching her movement, which is so fluid and smooth. It's rare to find a spot that balances great technique with such an inclusive, easygoing environment. It was so easy to make new friends, and I'll definitely be back for more beginner sparring sessions with other queer women. Thanks for holding events like this! Pro Tip: Bring a mouthguard and 16oz gloves for sparring (and headgear if you have it!).

Alex, the owner of Cappy's, had an issue with one of the boxers because she believed he was…read morehomophobic. I signed up for sparring, and that boxer trains with me. I simply train with everyone--I do not involve myself in other people's personal opinions. When I walked into the gym, I immediately noticed everyone giving me dirty looks. Apparently, Alex had already given a presentation to everybody portraying me as homophobic and disrespectful toward the gym. Think about how disturbing that is: the owner of a boxing gym publicly turned an entire room against me before even asking me what happened or checking whether the accusation was true. I smiled and shook her hand because I was excited to be there. She responded with hostile energy, stepping up to me as if she wanted to pull up on me. I was shocked and confused. She accused me of talking shit about Cappy's Gym on Facebook, so I asked her to show me exactly what I had done. She pulled up screenshots--and all they showed was the other boxer tagging me in pictures from Cappy's posts. She then admitted that I had not actually said anything. That should have ended with an immediate apology. She should have told everyone in the gym that she was wrong for portraying me that way. Instead, she allowed the poison, hostility, and hatred she had created among the gymgoers toward me to continue flowing. I was left standing in a gym full of people who had already been encouraged to judge me for something I never said or did. The most humiliating part was that I felt forced to disclose that I have a transgender girlfriend before she would "accept me." Basically, at Cappy's, you apparently have to prove that you are not homophobic--even when you did absolutely nothing--simply because the owner decided that you were. I did not deserve any of that. In my experience, Alex was egotistical, hostile, and completely unwilling to take accountability after admitting that the accusation against me was unsupported. Owning a gym does not give someone the right to damage a person's reputation, turn an entire group against them, confront them aggressively, and then refuse to correct the situation after discovering the truth. She appears to have bought the gym with her parents' money after only two years of boxing experience. Money may buy a gym, but it does not automatically buy maturity, leadership, experience, or accountability. What happened to me was not professional conflict resolution. It felt like public humiliation, social poisoning, and an abuse of authority by the person responsible for making the gym safe and welcoming.
