Love, love, love this place. We booked a four hour trail ride( changing the date once and then adding a rider at the last minute- and everyone was so gracious about it-) and enjoyed every minute. Even the rain didn't put a damper on the experience. Diane was so kind and instructional, a no nonsense personality that I love. We could hear and see her passion for horses and thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with her. We ended up only doing a two hour trail ride thanks to the downpour, and they happily credited us for the difference. Walked away with great memories, a bag full of goodies, and will be regulars there. We've done a fair amount of riding and I can say that this was probably one of my best experiences. I wish I had known about this place years ago. My husband and I have been getting back into riding regularly and have tried several different area stables to take some lessons to brush up on our skills. Cypress Trails has by far the most professional operation. I have done 3 fast trail rides now with wranglers Presley and Jorj. Both of them are fantastic. My brother and I went on the 1.5 hour trail ride. It was fun! Just wish the lesson they have at the beginning was a bit more informative.

Took our three grandchildren here for a close up encounter with some horses and they had a blast. First we fed a few horses some carrots that we brought with us and the kids were overwhelmed with the size of the animals and the way they eat. Next we grabbed some helmets that were provided free of charge and mounted up. The staff went through great pains adjusting the saddles to fit each rider. Our youngest was only 5 years old and the staff made her feel so comfortable on her horse. We went for a 90 minute trail ride along the river and through the woods and had a great time. Strongly recommend this business to anyone who loves horses or wants a first time experience! Had the best time! read more

My fiancé and I had such a blast! It was quite an experience! It happened to rain really hard mid-trail, and our tour guide asked if we wanted to continue or return to the ranch. We all wanted to continue on the trail. The tour guides were very helpful, consistently made sure we were all OK and that we stayed as a group. Disclaimer: My experience is likely to be exceptional; nonetheless, I will share what happened on our 2014 Valentine's Day lunch ride. Our friends from Utah came to visit my wife and me, and we decided to take them to do the most Texan thing we could think of - horseback riding Our group signed up for the lunch and ride: 1.5 hrs each way with lunch in the middle. They count Fridays as weekends here so don't expect the nice discounted price stated on their website if you try to schedule a ride for the last day of the work week. Here's what happened: - 3 out of 10 riders were thrown from their horse. - 2 out of 2 wranglers had their horses run off. - the police showed up, asking if we lost a horse and if we needed help. - a girl in our group told us this trip was scarier than skydiving. This was quite an adventure, and honestly, the four of us are really grateful that no one was more seriously injured. We spent a few hours discussing the experience over the next few days, the most maddening part of it all was how unprepared and how unprofessional the wranglers were at handling the dangerous scenarios. When the riders fell off of their horses, the wranglers were either untrained or just unprofessional in responding. My wife, a competitive rider growing up, explained what you're supposed to do if someone falls off of their horse is like most injury situations - tell them to lay there and lie still. Then, tell them to move one body part at a time to try to figure out where the pain is. Nope, that was not done for either of the customers who fell off of their horses... I watched a girl roll around on the ground holding her back for about 2 minutes... That was the biggest indicator to us that this business did not put the safety of its customers as their number one priority. I can't give anything but one star to an adventure business that doesn't prioritize the safety of the customers with appropriate response training of the wranglers. There were certainly other issues, ones that my wife could articulate a lot better, but the safety issue was the main point I wanted to warn potential riders about. read more

My daughter, her sister and I went to Cypress Trails today for a four hour lunch ride. My daughter was scared after being on the horse for a few minutes and decided not to ride. They led her back to the ranch and even drove her over to the restaurant to meet us for lunch. It was so peaceful and being in the woods and on a horse was so great. This was my first time to ride but the horses are trained so well that even if you are a beginner, you will be fine. We rode for about an hour and a half, ate lunch, and rode back. We rode for the first time here and it was absolutely a blast. Our guide, Cowboy (Jordan) was an absolute gentleman and quite fun to ride with. I would definitely add this place as a stop on your visit to Texas or even if you're planning a fun weekend, you have to be sure to stop here and ride. I had a great ride with Laura and Kari. Although it was humid, and some trails we inaccessible due to flooding, I had an awesome time. They make sure to adjust to your skill level and follow safety procedures. They were a great pair to ride with, hilarious and personable. I am working in the Houston area for a short time and I just wanted to hit the trails for a day. The prices are reasonable and I'm so glad I went through with it! Don't expect red carpet service, it's a real farm! Bring some boots, long pants, and bug spray (they have plenty of helmets on site) and enjoy your ride!! read more

My girlfriend and I had a blast. We did a two-hour ride and we were the only ones in that time slot. Our guide was David and he showed us the ropes really effectively. I'm not sure if really thought were naturally good riders or if he was just one to compliment his riders to earn a tip, but it really did seem like my girlfriend and I handled the horses really well at canter and up and down hills. We did well enough that he tried to get us to go faster, but that was when my own skills (as a complete novice) revealed themselves to have some weakness. Nevertheless, at the first sign of trouble on the sprint, David slowed us to a stop and prevented me from falling off my horse. That was quite a feat considering he was directly in front of me (how did he know? He was looking directly behind his horse at full gallop!). It was just top-flight guidance by him no matter how you slice it. My g/f and I were extremely pleased with the whole experience, and we plan on telling everyone that they should go there. Make sure to check for Groupon and other online deals, since we could have saved about 40% on our ride if we had done so beforehand. The horses were healthy and strong too. read more

Today for an outing with my dad I said lets do it! We got there and where greeted right away. Signed waiver picked out a helmet and on we go for 90 minutes! Alex was an awesome guide and was able to help my Spanish only speaking dad. My dad was an old pro but I very green. At first it's a nice trail and really the horse practically goes on its own. After you finally get the hang of it you do some real trotting on pasture and some wooded trails. I had a great time and will be back!! My daughter and I loved this place so I bought my aunt and uncle along with my nephew the lunch trail ride a total of 5 of us..I was told on the phone it would only be our party which was not true..I was not informed that lunch was included in the price so I paid my groups lunch and my uncle slipped a tip of $40to the trail leader who I was told later was the owner of cypress trails. When we got back to the stables I asked about it and was told I would receive a email with a credit towards another ride.. I never got the email or credit. My daughter really wanted to do the riding camp in the summer so I inquired about that also and was told she's way too young and they have better things to do than watch a bunch of 9 year olds for a week. I am a competent rider and after having lived and ridden horses in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, I can safely say that Cypress Trails is definitely the best place I have ridden. Most of the horses are Arabian, they are happy, healthy, well behaved and can cater for a range of riding abilities, from the first timer to the experienced. I live in downtown Houston and travel about 30 minutes to Cypress Trails most weekends. I love nothing more than to get out into the gorgeous and picturesque woodlands after spending all week in the office. Pure bliss. The stables are well run and very organized. You can go for a single trail ride (which includes a short lesson at the beginning), take lessons, lease a horse or buy a horse which you can keep on the premises for a fee so there are a lot of options. Make sure you wear long pants (to protect your legs from the saddle and stirrups) and appropriate footwear (no flip flops or bare feet). Helmets are available free of charge and must be worn - no helmet, no ride. I have tried a number of riding schools in Houston and would definitely recommend Cypress Trails over all of them. However, make sure you book at least a week in advance to avoid disappointment as due to popularity, the spots fill up quickly. Enjoy! read more

Had a great time on the trail ride with my 20-year-old, her friend, and her friend's mother. Our guide was Mr. Preston and he had stories to tell from beginning to end. He gave a super "primer" before we started, which put me immediately at ease and set a great tone for the ride. It was peaceful, relaxing, and enjoyable. We spent about 20-30 minutes afterward just feeding and petting the horses. They all seemed tame and well cared for. The employees were friendly and helpful. Loved everything about it, especially how relaxing the ride was and how relaxed the helpers were. Bring your own carrots, get a deal from Groupon, and enjoy being at one with nature. read more

Its a great place to go to when you just want to be in a peaceful environment and you get to ride the horse and see a cute little river on the way. The horses are so cute and nice. A little unorganized initially as there were several groups of 4 or more people and the guides didnt have the info on what group they were taking out,but this was resolved quickly.We had a group of 4 and ended up riding with another group of 4,but part of our group wasnt mounted up yet and we didnt know at that time that we were riding with the other family and the guide was giving the overview without everyone present or close enough to hear. After that initial confusion though,let me say,the views on the trail ride were outstanding! We used bug spray as suggested but there was a nice breeze and we had no isues with bugs.The guides were very nice and friendly ,very patient with the smaller kids in the other family.The horses were familiar with their trails so even someone (or a child) who has never riden would do fine and have so much fun.They stopped midway and the guide took our pictures with our cameras.Be sure you have a fannie pack or neck strap ,etc. I would definitely recommend this and will be returing in the fall for another ride .The view is spectacular and the horses placed in the trail line order where they do their best. ~in response to the one star degrading review: it would not have deferred me from going. It obviously was a personal attack. The last I checked horse poop does not smell like roses. I did not see Darylyn at all ,but if I did and she "popped a pill" how do you know it wasnt a B12 ? If her daughter has a scar,or tattoo or anything else ,who are you to judge ?Lastly,do you do her taxes? I took my grandson for his first ride, he is 9. We got there a little early and George took us out, just us two. We had a great slow paced ride. George was great at getting my grandson over his fears and into having fun. He is sort of shy when he first meets people but he was having a ball by 1/4 the way through. Thanks George. The trails were very well shaded and much quieter than I expected especially that close into Houston and the airport. George reminded my grandson every time we went up or down and how to lean back or forward. He engaged him in conversation and made his time a fun one. We plan to go back to do the Lunch Ride. 2 hour ride to restaurant and lunch included then 2 hour ride back to stable. That sounds like a fun day for my family and I. Thanks for the nice stable, Luke rode Seth, an older horse and very calm, I rode Peaches and she was a good steed for an old fat lady like me. Scheduled the 90 Minute trail ride on New Years Eve & had an amazing experience! The instructors, horses, & the trail were all great. Our guide (Jude) was a blast and talked to us the whole ride and had complete control of all the horses on the trail. Very easy ride & would be suitable for just about anyone. So me and my grandson, both being native Texans, have never ridden a horse. We got there and the staff could not have been more helpful. They were friendly and knowledgeable. I informed them that I had seconds of experience and that I was terrified of falling. Within a few minutes of being on the horse I felt as natural as could be. My grandson was in front of me and we rode through the woods next to cypress creek. It was so beautiful, so peaceful. At one point I told my grandson that all we needed was a campfire and big pot of beans. I could say that this was the best trail ride that I have ever been on however being the only ride that I have been on it wouldn't carry much weight. I took my 3 year old here for a pony ride. It ended up being a positive experience, but was not what I expected and could have gone poorly. Positives: I called to reschedule and it was no problem. My daughter did great and enjoyed it. Negatives: They seemed a bit understaffed and disorganized. The pony was very large...a horse really. I was nervous that my daughter was going to fall off - I was leading the horse around and fortunately had my cousin there to walk next to her. There wasn't really a path or clear area to walk around with the pony. read more

So after the initial excitement of going horseback riding wore off, my husband and I noticed a few things. Our wrangler who took us on the horseback ride was kind of unenthusiastic, and literally was on her cell phone the ENTIRE ride. Only spoke to remind us when there is an uphill or downhill. When I asked her about other options for horseback riding... Like other trails or if it's possible to go a little faster... Her only response was (we're not doing that in this ride). I believe on the website it says there's over 100+ miles of trail. She just was not interested at all in caring to give more information about the horses, or their business, or other trails or any other options. She also was not interested in interacting at all with any of the other people. Because of all of these things, a potentially exciting ride turned out to be kind of boring. read more

Today was our second time at the Cypress Trails Ranch. We have done an hour trail ride 3 years ago, and came back today as we are back visiting the Houston area. They are phenomenal! My son, who has special needs, was with us. The ranch could not have been more accommodating.
