At first, this truck came late and opened late, but they seemed to have normalized their operations down to a T. These guys are cool - no BS, tattoo bearing, down to earth and down to business cool. And now they are good with two items I frequent: Döner kebab Döner box Their version of the kebabs are a bit more planty than I usually go for, but its still a good kebab nonetheless - veggies like cherry tomatoes, Romaine lettuce, beets, with some chicken and tzatziki sauce. All excellent, crunchy and full of taste. I initially went for the kebab but fell in love with the Döner Box, aka the Box. It does away of the wrap and gives you a bed of fries on the bottom. Yum! Had the Box since. These guys have some soft drinks of which I never heard but are delicious: Dang! Butterscotch Root Beer and Cheerwine. Horrible for my diabetes, but hey, I'll choose a slightly shorter life span for an enjoyable life and tastes than a dull long life. This food truck is a home run. You get delicious grilled chicken, fresh and crisp vegetables, flavorful sauces, and even some pickles in a reasonably large portion too. I got the "doner box" variation which takes all of this and puts it on top of a handful of french fries, and while that was very tasty I'll probably switch to the salad variation next time. I was kinda skeptical to try this food truck because, honestly, it just isn't normally the type of food I chase after. Decided to give it a go after seeing all the good reviews. I chose the doner box, mostly because it was listed as a staff favorite. It is basically a bed of fries, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, chicken, spicy pepper sauce, and tzatziki. I actually really liked their fries, which probably isn't the staple here but they were good. The chicken was spit roasted and probably some of the best chicken I've ever had (as good as chicken can get I suppose not deep fat fried LOL). Both the sauces were awesome and super flavorful! I wish the red pepper sauce was a bit spicier though. Honestly, the fat kid in me could have done without the lettuce and tomatoes. Overall, a very good plate of food. Came because I wanted Döner. $11 is a far cry from the €3.50 you'll pay in Berlin, but this isn't Berlin. Find out they only do wraps, not the bread that makes a doner so special. Came in on a Monday and they only have chicken and seitan... real döner meat is only on the weekends they said. I ordered a chicken doner, mate and cheese curds, and it came out to $30 with a 10% tip, for some bullshit tortilla chicken wrap. The food wasnt bad, just overpriced and not what was to be expected from the advertising. I'd have no complaints if their website said overpriced chicken wrap and not xberg style döner... Tried this place last week during lunch at Daley Plaza and was happy to find currywurst since I haven't had it since 2008 in Germany and had been craving some. The portion size was good, the fries could be a a bit crisper since there was sauce over them which made them soggy and hard to eat with the small pick, but were freshly made. Having eaten döner kebab all over Germany (and many other parts of the world), I was excited to finally try Döner Men's version. Unfortunately I was highly disappointed. It was so not worth the $11.00 (!) I shelled out at the Bucktown Arts Fest for this poser. The wrap was tough and tasted stale, and it may have looked like a large sandwich, but the wrap wasn't even filled completely. I had to pull off about a third of the empty wrap just to get to the filling, which seemed to me to be exactly like any other kebab I can get at the multitude of places all over the city. I was really excited to try this place. I got a chicken bowl and was really disappointed with my food. For the $13-14 I spent on it I thought I would get more protein. There was barely any chicken in my bowl and it was very, very dry, to the point of being unpalatable. My friend got vegetarian curry wurst though and that was super delicious. read more

After hearing so many good things about Döner Men, I have to say I was really disappointed. I've been searching for a Berlin döner for years here in the states. Living in Berlin for over 10 years may have spoiled me. The currywurst & döners are nothing like the authentic food trucks in Berlin. So if you want authentic Berliner eats, it's not here. My döner was more pita & lettuce than anything. It reminded me more of a Turkish Pizza than a Döner. The Curry Ketchup sauce was watered down & lacked enough curry flavoring. It was a bummer. As others mentioned, I wouldn't necessarily say this truck is synonymous or exemplary of straight German or Turkish food, but it was still tasty nonetheless, and I understood what they were going for. I stopped by Friday around 11:30 at Daley Plaza and got the Döner Box. I only waited a few minutes for this and the guys there were friendly. I enjoyed this very much, as all flavors and ingredients worked well together. The toppings were noticeably fresh. I also tried some of the curry fries and this was yummy. It had a great kick to it. Prices were appropriate. The box was $10 and it was a satisfying meal. This place is Amzing. First off, the food tastes pretty close to the European stuff, and the Cürrywurst is actually better! But the bar itself is totally rad. Intimate and cozy, and constant cool events like record release parties, and lots of hard to find beets rare keg trappings from brewerys like 3 Floyd's. I got delivery from this place twice now. It is really good! They have a limited takeout menu, however both bowls I tasted were delicious- lamb, yogurt sauce and harissa. I really like German Doener Kebab. I've eaten at least 15 of them (?) on trips to Berlin. I was eager to find the equivalent in Chicago. I tried the Doenermen food stand at the Christkindlmarkt. I am sorry to say I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting the real thing. First, they only have the option of durum doener which looks like a burrito. I don't mind it, but personally, I enjoy the doener that comes in the flatbread. The meat isn't the rotating meat thingy you see at doener shops. I'm not sure how it was cooked. One positive was the sauce, they got that right. Overall, it just wasn't the authentic German doener I was expecting based on the advertisement. IMHO, the closest thing to German doener in Chicago can be found at SP Kebab in Rogers Park. It's not perfect, but closer to the real thing. Interesting concept of basically put a doner in a box on a bed of fries and salad. Reminds of taco in a box. The fries were really crispy but missing salt. It's a food truck, so the ambiance depends on where you take the food. My Turkish buddy said it definitely reminded him of the Turkish street food in Germany. He and I both got the doner sandwich & fries with curry sauce. The lavash-like wrap is a perfectly thin, yet strong container for the delicious doner, fresh veggies and creamy rich tzatziki. I was very surprised to see such high rating. Especially considering the quality of Chicago food truck scene on Adams and Wacker. I ordered the Döner Kebab and Curry Fries. The Doner Kebab is okay. The wrap was stiff but the flavors were okay. Nothing special. The Curry Fries were terrible. They were smothered in a curry sauce that was too sweat. I love Indian food and curry but this was bad. Even if I could get past the one note sauce, the sweetness did me in. I love Indian food and was excited to try Doner Men. Unfortunately, the items above are not good. The wrap was okay but the fries were terrible. I debated giving a 3 star rating but two sums it up, I've experienced better. (This review is for the Christkindlmarket stall) I was really excited when I saw that there would be traditional Turkish-German streetfood at the market as I had yet to find anything like it since returning home from Europe. I ordered the Doner ($11.00), ate it, but was left underwhelmed. To me, it looked more like a salad wrap then anything. I'm not sure if the price or the portion was sized was changed for the market, but for $11, I'd expect much more meat. Something was off about the pita as well, it just wasn't as tender or flavorful as I've had before in Europe. I'm will give Donermen another try when then open up their bar/restaurant. I'm really hoping that access to a full kitchen and a less touristy crowd will lead to amazing flavour and that authentic taste. read more

The doner box from Doner Men may be a nearly perfect food item. It has just the right amount of everything: creamy yogurt, spicy harissa, fresh vegetables, grilled chicken, fried potatoes. Seriously, everything you could possibly want in a lunch from creamy to fried to meaty to healthy to spicy to sour to starchy...it's all right there, in this lovely little box. Both the entrees we tried were great. The Doner Box was clearly the best, with killer goat tzatziki (seriously, new favorite sauce? check). The Currywurst was a more one-dimensional dish that also seemed a little less filling, but still quite good. If you're looking for an authentic doner like you ate in Germany, this comes close but no cigar. But it was delicious and different than what you've had before and for the cash, it's a LOT of food! Had the curry wurst and was quite the disappointment. The sausage itself was rather bland, only flavor came from the curry sauce which is really only one reason they get 3 stars. The other was the great service from the time I ordered and the time I finished paying the food was done.
