As a military family who moves often, we try to find contractors we can trust. We were D&D customers for 7 years until recently. My husband and I replaced not one but two HVAC units in our Destin rental property with D&D.
Long story short, D&D installed a new upstairs HVAC unit in my rental property in 2014. Three weeks later, my tenant reported the unit was not cooling properly. D&D reported the evaporator coil was leaking and it needed to be replaced. All parts and labor were covered by warranty. Fast forward to April 2017. My tenant reported water leaking from the first floor ceiling directly under where the ac unit sits on the second floor. It turned out D&D did not properly install the replacement coil back in July of 2014 and condensation had been building up and leaking into the ceiling space and ac closet for a number of years. It was determined that the installing technician failed to install the top and side plates off the slant coil. This was confirmed by Carrier as well.
We had damage to the first floor ceiling and bills from D&D that were unauthorized and unnecessary if even completed at all. We were told leaking capillary tubes were repaired by solder though there is NO evidence that a solder job was ever completed. At one point, we were told that there were rips in the duct work due to a rodent infestation and this was the reason for the leaking evaporator coil. The service manager at D&D stated they would not send anyone back to repair the duct work until we got rid of the infestation and live animals. We immediately hired a pest company go out and it was determined there was no such issue or any evidence of rodents or live animals.
In the end, we fired D&D, hired a new Carrier approved company, repaired the system and damages to our home on our own dime and have since filed a claim with D&D's liability insurance in hopes of being reimbursed for the repairs and damages. During the process, we also found out that county permits were never pulled on either of our two systems or on our neighbor's two systems. We thought maybe D&D cut corners because we were absentee owners/landlords but that was not the case. After 20 years in business, D&D should know they need to pay for county permits and inspections. D&D has proved their lack of ethics, incompetence and poor customer service. If the owner cared about his customers, he would have responded to our repeated direct requests for intervention. He did not.
I cannot recommend this company and I urge you to look elsewhere for a respectable company. read more
