I called to ask if the rice contained orzo, since I have a gluten allergy. I didn't expect the restaurant to be allergy friendly, but I did expect the cook to know what's in their rice. The woman on the phone said "all I can tell you is that it is rice pilaf" after conferring with the cook. I let her know that I have an allergy, ate it for dinner last night, and had it in front of me and needed to know it there was orzo added to the rice because that's what it looked like. She came back after conferring with the cook a second time to which she said there was in fact "wheat flour" in the product. The fact that they couldn't tell me what ingredients were in it is frankly ridiculous and raises serious concerns about what's actually being served. It's clear that not much is made in-house; the food seems to be prepackaged, rehydrated, or fried. Not much appears fresh, and the ingredients are bottom-of-the-barrel quality at best. Which would explain why many of the recent reviews have been disappointing. I think you'd have better luck buying stuff from the frozen section of Costco. read more

I get the Gyro quite often. Usually it is delicious! The last 2 times were not great. They skimp on the tzatziki sauce and will not give extra on the side when requested. Today's gyro was WAY over cooked. The meat was very dried out and crispy outside(not in a good way) They changed their fries as well. I guess it's okay if you live nearby and don't want to travel far for a bite. The food was also ready at least 20 minutes before my requested time...so, the toasted grinder and the gyro were only warm at best. Disappointed. read more

Their white NY style pizza has become my favorite pizza. It has the perfect amount of garlic and cheeses, and the crust is exactly how you want a NY style crust to taste. I can't wait to go back and have it again! read more

D&G used to be one of the better places around this area, unfortunately it seems to get worse every year. Like most Pizza places nowadays they don't put enough sauce on their Pizza. I stopped going for a while but decided to give it another chance. I requested extra sauce. Unfortunately they skimped out on the sauce and it was very bland. Next time I'll make my own pizza. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because they are still very friendly, and the service is good. read more

Omg - their Chicken Poblano Soup just cured every ailment I ever had in my whole entire life. I want to dislocate my tongue so I can lick every molecule out of the bottom of the container. terrible ordered clam cakes and chowder on the website added my phone number and all. got there and they said they didn't have any. customer service wasn't the best I was upset and didn't get a reason why. wouldnt recommend ordering online they didn't call or anything. They were not on the menu the previous week and they failed to take it off again. read more

We get D & G take out quite often. The food is good , the grinders are huge ! We like the fish dinners , pizzas , wings and soups. If you get something to go, you better check it before you leave. I moved to Canterbury a year ago and almost every time I order to go....it's WRONG. I order no tomatoes and yep, I get tomatoes. I order a meatball grinder and they think I need onions and peppers....yuck!!!! I ordered a pizza and an asian salad tonight, with a specific dressing, and I get home and NO DRESSING!!!!! Overall the pizza is decent. Make sure you order it crispy. The first time we went the pizza crust was still doughy. We decided to give it a second try and ordered the pizza crispy and it came out much better. This place offers a pub and a restaurant. If you can, sit in the pub. The restaurant was very loud with banging pans (the sounds of a pizza pan being tossed into a box full of pizza pans). Finally, the food was good with the exception of the buffalo chicken pizza. It tasted like boiled chicken cubed up with very little hot sauce. I'd give it 2 out of 10. Other then that, the other food selections was good for the price. read more

I love to come to the bar side and have some delicious beers. The food is always good here. I like to get the same handful of things off the menu when I stop in. But last night I tried something different, the D&G special hoagie. Oh my god. It was about 10 lbs of meat!! It was overflowing with roast beef, turkey and bacon galore!! I could barely hold the sandwich, let alone eat it without a mess. So worth it though. I took most of it home for obvious reasons and it's turning into a 3 meal sandwich. Try it. Food is good, location is convenient. If you eat in, be prepared to wait a LONG time- every time we have eaten in, the waitresses are short staffed and running around. Staff is very friendly but very clearly under staffed. Highlights are the meat lovers pizza is great- very filling, and the atomic buffalo wings are awesome and a favorite, MUST TRY!. Pasta dishes seem a generous portion as well. Grinders are average. If you're not looking to leave Canterbury then this is the place to go. read more

Food is okay, service is sloppy and indifferent. 3 out of the last 5 times I have gone for take-out, pizza, they have messed something up. Twice I showed up tat the time they said it would be ready only to find that they had simply forgotten to make the pizza, and once they forgot to add the toppings I had ordered. Mistakes happen, but 60% of the time? Other than a mumbled "sorry, boss", there was no acknowledgement or compensation. No, "cup of chowder while you wait?" or "gratis side salad to go?" They have little competition in the area, so their prices are a little high and their service is low. It is a family-run place. I would expect more. read more

This has quickly become one of my favorite bars and restaurants. The food is delicious, with a well thought out and unique menu. On top of that, the beer selection is second to none. I absolutely love this place. The menu is huge so there is something on there for everyone. The appetizers are unique and delicious. My favorite is the fried green beans. Ask for all three dipping sauces, they're delicious and I had fun mixing and matching. Last time I went, I ordered the poutine fries. Now, nothing will compare to original poutine that you get in canada, but this was a close copy! I recommend the build your own flatbread, last time I got it with steak, mushrooms and onions. Spectacular! And they're basic options look great too. My boyfriend, (who has the pallet of a three year old, chicken nuggets and Mac n cheese stuff) orders a grilled cheese with bacon most of the time and he loves it! I have eaten at this place at a minimum of 10 times since opening and I can only say one of those times was our meal something to talk about positively. When we eat in the service is typically slow and the room is extremely noise. The station they use to compile all the dirty dishes is right Near where you eat so every time the clean table you hear right up close an personal the racket of dishes being dropped in to buckets with other dishes. Tables are very close so conversations are hard to be private because noise level is so high. When food comes it is inconsistent and may or may not be what you ordered. There pizza is greasy to point of soggy there sauce is unremarkable. They over spice there cuts of meat when cooking them. My wife liked the elk burger which is the one time we enjoyed the food. Problem is every time we went back they didn't have any available. There french fries were good but not good enough to carry the place. The Bar side has good beer but they don't make it. Service again can be slow on that side as well but better but noise from bar heard into eating area. Deserts are typical of deserts in pizza, Italian/ Greek type eating places. I don't believe to be prepared on site but not sure if they are again not worth going for and they are pricey. They do as well as they do because town only has a couple of choices and it is convient. I am only writing this now because I wanted to not jump to conclusions. But in good faith I could not and won't recommend this place to anyone not even people I don't care for. read more

D&G Pizza & Pub food is so good. We go too much, lol. I love their French fries best. Their cheeseburgers are delicious and large!! Pizza is great. Hot wings are delicious and they have atomic! My husband loves those. The staff are friendly and you don't have to wait for service. They have busy weekends and can accommodate nonetheless. Plenty of parking. I recommend traveling here for their food. Fun place for dinner. You can eat outside in the warmer weather. Nice and clean, too. read more
