I stopped here for lunch today. I worn around the corner. It was my first time here and I thought…read morethe interior was nice. All the hand painted artwork gives you plenty to look at while waiting. I ordered their love salad with chicken added. It was awesome. And huge. I will definitely be back and definitely want to hang out in their bar. Looks great!

I'm always looking for great pizza in unexpected places in CT. Earlier this year, I noticed Mama…read moreMia on a monthly Yelp List identifying the Most Popular Restaurants in Connecticut. That's how I first learned about @brickandbasil in Yantic. I visited several months ago, but forgot to post my review. There was a bit of a hiccup when I visited. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars

Maybe some better lighting but a very nice interior with vintage grade school chairs!! Food: presented well and very tasty, pizza was good but had to ask for some crushed red pepper and seasonings. The beet gnocchi was excellent and the hummus was great too. The meatballs were in a skillet and were great but possibly needs more sauce Overall: 100% if in the area it's a revisit for me!!!

If you're on a pizza tour or just have a hankering for great pizza and good beer, Trigo needs to be your destination. This was my second visit in the last 12 months, and both times they delivered consistently delicious food and excellent service. You're greeted warmly with a smile, and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The pizza here is wood fired with a thin, crispy crust with just a bit of char. Don't be surprised if you see a small burnt spot or two--that's intentional and part of the style. If you enjoy the artisan-style pizzas from places like Pepe's, Sally's, Krust, or Otto, you'll feel right at home here. Located in the somewhat unassuming (and occasionally gritty) downtown Willimantic area, Trigo is truly a hidden gem. Street parking is available, or you can park in the rear lots and walk up the alley to the front entrance. We ordered the classic red cheese pizza, which was savory, crispy, and exactly what you want from a great pie. The real standout, though, was the Lemon White pizza. It was fantastic--unique, bright, and seriously delicious. Thin slices of whole lemon are baked right into it, and they're completely edible. A drizzle of honey and a touch of chili pepper bring everything together in a really memorable way. The beer selection is solid as well. We enjoyed the Keeper's Irish Red and the Mountain Magic cider. Honestly, give Trigo a shot--you won't regret it. My only complaint? They're closed on Sundays... which is a bit of a tragedy.
