My kids and I go to see Joe here at D & L. He is super nice, asks my young men what they want, and verified it with Mom or Dad. One thumbs up and off he goes. Sometimes we have another stylist like Alex but we really prefer Joe. They used to look at a book and point but after 6 years have settled into what they like. The kids are happy, their hair looks good, and he gives them a lollipop or a quarter for the vending machine. No you know why they are in business and Hair Cuttery next door closed. I didn't want to make this post but today my 5 year old son and I had an unfortunate experience with the older barber. In the past, he's been very grumpy and impatient but I let it pass because my son is autistic with sensory issues and haircuts are a nightmare. The lady is very nice and patient with my son who panics at the beginning of every haircut. Today, the older man was going to cut his hair but my son started to panic and stepped off the chair. The man went up to him and took off the robe thing. After my son pleaded to me "I don't want to cut my hair", the man told my son" well i don't want to cut your hair". He then told me that I shouldn't make him get a haircut if he can't handle it. I explained that I can't help it if he is like this and neither can my son but just like every other kid, he needs haircuts and that this man has zero patience. Thankfully the lady was able to cut my sons hair and with encouragement and some modifications, my son got through the haircut without any tears. read more

I was glad to see a new barber shop open up by my house late last year and almost immediately stopped driving in to Chantilly for my haircuts. I've been relatively pleased with the service and expertise of the barbers here. There's rarely a long wait; I think the longest I've waited is 15 minutes. The barbers are friendly enough but don't always start a conversation, honestly not a huge bother for me. Consistency is an issue sometimes I've noticed, but as long as you're specific with what you want you'll come out just right. Pricing on haircuts is about right for the area, I think it's $15 for a men's haircut, $16 for a skin fade. When they very first opened they were offering $2 off all cuts which was a nice gesture. I was originally going to go to the Haircuttery that's literally right next door because I didn't know about this place, but decided to go here to support an independent, small business. That's reason enough to go here instead of a chain, but their prices were almost $5 cheaper than Haircuttery as well. Plus, they were very friendly and you could tell they have a lot of regulars because several people came in while I was getting my haircut and they were all greeted by name. The only downside, if you even want to call it that, is that they only accept cash. That being said, they do have an ATM right there in the shop for you to use if you didn't bring any with you. Sure they only take cash or check but these guys know how to cut hair like true barbers. There are plenty of TVs showing sports, need, or some home improvement show. My current barber was not working today because its the day after Christmas, but I needed a haircut because I have work later today and my hair was not looking too great. I heard some good reviews about Joe so I decided to give it a shot and see if he was working since its super close to my house. First thing I want to note is that half the staff was not wearing masks. I am fully vaxxed with booster and have had covid so I have antibodies, so I was not too woried, but some might be. I went in and was immediately sat. I told Joe that I wanted a 3 on the sides and back of my head and none off the top in length but some thinning done on the top. He said okay. What I did not realize was that a 3 here was like a 1.5 at my normal place. I had my eyes closed for most of the cut because my eyes are very sensitive and I did not want any hair clippings to get into my eyes because of contacts. Close to the end he was finishing up and I realized the cut was really short, and the top of my head was really long. I then said "This is shorter than I thought it would be, im sorry but could you take about a quarter inch off the top as well?" I was not disrespectful or rude in any way and I made sure to ask nicely and I even apologized for asking. He responded by saying that his sizes were completely standard (given what a 3 here looks like, a 1 would basically be a complete shave) and used everywhere and then went on to complain saying "How would you like it if you finished a job and then someone told you to go back and do it again" First off, I asked him to take a little extra off the top. Whether he did that at the beginning or at the end would not change how long it took him. On top of this, I work in a restaurant. I know firsthand, likely better than he does, about shitty customers and I made sure that I was not one. There was no reason for him to act the way he did and it really ticked me off. To make matters worse he took about three quarters of an inch to an inch off the top instead of a quarter of an inch and the length is not even. All in all, really shitty experience and I definetly don't recommend this barber shop or at least Joe. read more

No frills barbershop that my husband has been going to for his regular weekly haircut for a year now. He's always in and out within 30 minutes or less. Everybody seems to want to go to Joe all the time. He's always super friendly when we're there, he knows my husband by name even though he doesn't cut his hair every time. (Is he the owner? I'm not sure.) As mentioned, my husband has probably had his hair cut done by everybody there. Enter, sit in chair and they go in order by who showed up first. Steve cut both my husband and our super wiggly two year old son's hair today. He was patient and kind and spoke to my son nicely so he could keep still. (Not joking around he was moving the entire time). He was chill even when my kid flung his head back into his clippers and gave himself a bald spot. He was able to fix it so it's not as noticeable. Phew!!! But what my husband was happy about was that despite my son's constant moving he faded his hair nicely! They only take cash (and check if I remember correctly) so be prepared! Fiancé was able to get in quickly without an appointment which was very convenient. He gets his head shaved bare and apparently it's difficult to find places that accommodate. This place performed that task with a straight razor! Impressive! The shop is bare bones inside which was interesting to me as a woman. I had never been in a barber shop before. The chairs were huge and looked very comfortable. I forgot to ask my fiancé about that but he must like the shop since he returned a few days later for a touch up. As far as men's barber shops go, this one is as good as it gets, you won't be able get a hair cut this good for $15 anywhere else! The shop itself is pretty low-key, no frills, not at all fancy... which is fine by me, so long as the barber gives a good cut. The Asian lady is the worst barber I have ever seen. I very specifically asked her to keep the top long and not to thin it out. But guess what, she cut most of it right off. It's not what you want your haircut to look like, but hers. I told her, #2 to a #1 fade, and she did it unevenly, and probably has never done that. When you walk in, she's at the end of the shop to the right. I recommend considering another barber shop where they actually listen to how short you want your hair before they grab the scissors and cut it all off. read more
