Well, it left much to be desired! Glad I ordered takeout because it was tiiiiiiiight in there! And, I was there on Sat mid-afternoon. My daughter and I dined at this restaurant and the food was very good. I ordered the fried riblets with a side of sweet yams, corn bread and collard greens. For me the greens were a little salty. My daughter ordered the oxtail plate with white rice, Mac & cheese. The Mac & cheese was not fresh. Other than that, the oxtails were superb. They were small which made them tender. When you serve the large oxtails, they tend to be tough. Next time I visit D&N Kitchen, I will order the oxtails, they are wonderful. I also ordered the red, tropical punch and it was quite tasty, I loved it! Inside the restaurant looks homey, you can tell from the outside cement stump in the middle of the parking lot the prior establishment was a gas station. Management should repair the swinging black kitchen door, because you can never know what's: "Behind The Kitchen Door"! Anyway, the meals were great. We stayed one night in San Antonio and found this gem. We walked in and the owner is sitting in the dining area chatting with customers coming through the door. The establishment is an older one, BUT as soon as you sit down you notice how clean they keep everything. Very homey and welcoming. The food was a solid 9 out of 10. I ordered the oxtails--- the meat was so savory and tender, rice perfectly cooked and the cornbread has the perfect balance of sweet and salty, definitely recommend you try it. My husband got the fish and chicken: he thought it was delicious. Chicken was perfectly cooked and crispy . But he said the catfish as a hit out of the ballpark. Seriously, you hear of 4/5 stars or 5/5 stars, but this place is the real deal. I ordered the fried fish platter with potato salad and mash potatoes. The fish was breaded perfect, the ratio of ingredients in the potato salad was perfect. The temperature of the food was perfect. The collard greens needed a bit more heat but I really couldn't complain about them either. The dining room was a little on the older side but the kitchen was clean. They have a A plus rating.
