Wow! This is the best hole in the wall meal I've had in years. I was looking for a seafood place to take a family member for lunch. We usually eat at a seafood place in Austin, so I searched for a similar spot in SA. Man, I'm glad I found Bayseas! The portions were huge and inexpensive and the best part is that everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. My wife had the shrimp lunch special which was 5 shrimp with fries for $7.99. two other family members got the B. lunch special - 2 catfish filets and two shrimp. My daughter got the catfish sandwich which contained two huge catfish filets, dressed , on white bread, with fries. The filets were so big she could only eat one on the sandwich and had the second one as a leftover for later. I got the 2 filet dinner, with 2 shrimp and 2 oysters ($17.99) . I chose cod for my fish. It was nice and crispy on the outside and tender inside. I got fries and onion rings, which were so good. The folks that ordered Mac and cheese loved it. It's not a creamy Mac and cheese, more of a "cheese pull" homemade Mac and cheese. No Velveeta here! We ordered delicious hush puppies to start, and to finish we had banana pudding and chocolate cake slice, made by the owner. We went to Bayseas on a Saturday afternoon. When we arrived, we were the only ones in the dining area. I ordered the 6 piece catfish filet and 3 piece shrimp dinner with an order of onion rings. The onion rings were nothing spectacular, but luckily the catfish and shrimp made up for that with leaps and bounds. It is undoubtedly the best catfish I have ever eaten. Thick juicy fillets with a light breading and a huge bottle of tartar sauce on the table to squeeze on each bite. Classic rhythm and blues music played loudly throughout the restaurant, decorated with aging signs and pictures. The vibe felt like you were in New Orleans near the Gulf of Mexico. Highly recommend this place if you like fried seafood. They even offer various types of fish if catfish is not your thing, all fried in the same delicate manner. Huge portions with some of the best fried catfish that I've ever tasted. I live in the area and have passed by this establishment for YEARS. However, I didn't go to the beach this summer and craved the seafood you buy on an island. This kept on popping up on YELP and I caved. Bought the family meal with catfish and shrimp with some sides. The fish itself is good, has a great flavor, and I love me some shrimps. I wasn't sure if my little one would like it, so I bought kids nuggets. The nuggets were dinosaurs (I was a little disappointed) I can make them at home. I tried the gumbo and I really am not a gumbo fan, but I enjoyed the spicy-ness. I'm glad to have my beach fix, even the bland fries screams beach restaurant. Once you bite into it, you will know that everything is straight out of the box. 1). Fried Pork Chops tasted as if they had been fried in Fish oil. 2). Fried Fish was HORRIBLE, (don't know what kind of fish this was but it was NOT catfish). They claim that they are selling catfish but please don't be fooled. When the fish cooled off it had a spongy texture to it and it was fried with a flour base. 3), The cake was old, cold (taken straight out of fridge) and stale. 4). The mashed potatoes and gravy was HORRIBLE!! They could have purchased a better brand of instant potatoes. Everything was just horrible; every meal that we had was thrown away after a few bites. Terrific small unassuming fish joint. My son and I had their fried catfish and shrimp and both were top notch for this level fish restaurant. We are not talking white table cloth service here after all...just fill-you-up good eats at a very reasonable price fare...and they delivered. Very pleasant staff who gave effort to please. The music - soul tunes - was too loud for my old ears and our guy had no issue turning it down. Appreciated! There is cod and drum (redfish) on the menu as well, but they were out of drum at the time. I've got to get back for some of that soon because that is a favorite and they said they can grill it too. I've eaten many times at the Bayseas location on O'Conner and they do a fine job there too, but no drum on their menu, so here is the one. Oh, btw, they disappointingly have those tiny napkins, which don't work with fried fish, so I'm bringing some of my own. The gumbo to me was perfect on spice it opened up my sinuses , just missing that uhmp. Just missing something else, but pretty good. The popcorn shrimp is better than I thought especially the with the cocktail sauce it comes with. I ordered the cod & cat fish, the cod was well cooked and had a golden crisp but the flavor didn't deliver. It was bland. The cat fish however was tasty. I ordered 2 drinks, a sprite and a lemonade. Neither one had me satisfied. The sprite was watered down, needed carbonation; & the lemonade was mediocre. Like koolaide from a packet. Side note; I wasn't a big fan of having the water heater in plane site of the men's restroom. What happens if that water heater busts while someone is using the restroom ? Idk just my .02¢ read more
