Driving west on the Thruway and went on google maps to locate one and this popped up. My husband is a huge train nut, so any restaurant located in an old depot is a must do. I ordered a cup of French onion soup which was delicious and the first time ever my order was accompanied by scissors ( to assist in cutting/ handling the cheese!!!) My entree was the salmon, a large piece that was well prepared and served with my choice of vegetables ( I picked the Brussel sprouts, yummy) and pasta ( vs rice or baked potato). Went for an early dinner after we pulled our RV into town. Had the place to ourselves. Amy was great! She told us all about the history of the depot, turned on the toy trains (one hanging upside down), and made sure our meal was memorable. She even invited us to go to her son's HS football game. Very quint restaurant, with delicious food. We came here after visiting the Jello Museum. Ample parking in private lot. The wait staff which turned out to be only 1 very friendly and attentive human, really worked very hard to wait on all of the tables by herself. The mushroom soup was some of the best I have ever had. Two of our group had the French onion soup which they said also was very good. I had the Reuben Sandwich which was great. Just the right amount of meat, and kraut, a bit over dressed making it a bit messy to pick up and eat, Don't worry I figured it out! My wife had a burger cooked to perfection and one in our group had the steak sandwich which he throughly enjoyed. On a Friday afternoon we stopped for lunch. I had the steak sandwich w/ the option of sweet potato fries. Probably the most perfect steak I have had in my entire life on toast with au jous. They serve a honey drip with the sweet potato fries and oh my god it was delicious. My husband had the Buffalo chicken grilled cheese. Good food and it was reasonably priced. The cream puff with hot fudge and whipped cream. To die for! The building is a old train depot that is beautifully restored. The service impeccable as our waitress was very attentive. We contacted D&R Depot for our Christmas Day catering order that was made on 11/20/24. We were told we were set and confirmed for a 3:00 pickup on Christmas Eve. My 76 year old mother showed up to pickup and no one was there. They also had a linens company waiting in parking lot. No answered then they presumed to blame us for placing the order a month ago and asked us to reschedule our christmas dinner at a discounted rate?! Taking no responsibility for their mistake! I have called numerous times and emailed to speak with someone as to why this happened and they are not returning any phone calls or messages. They ruined our Christmas dinner as we had no other choice for catering to order on Christmas Eve! DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM! Nope. I hate writing bad reviews. I get that everyone has a bad day and you shouldn't judge anyone based on their worst day, but... too many strikes against this place. I will start out by saying the location and interior are cool, especially for anyone that likes trains. It was clean and nicely decorated and the train running on the ceiling was neat. Outside of that our experience started out with them jacking up our reservation. Then we sat without menus until the waitress came to take our order and we had to tell her we needed menus and she acted put out. When I ordered the prime rib she said I was ordering off the wrong menu like it was my fault and handed me another menu. We never got drink refills and had to ask for water when the meal was almost done. So the service, not great. The best part of the meal was the buttermilk battered chicken, which was ok. Everything else was mid or worse. The pot pies were just stew with a biscuit plopped on top, not a pastry crust like the menu says. The beef on wick, wasn't. The fish fry was not quite burnt but right on the cusp of it. I have a feeling based on prior reviews that the ownership may have changed recently and it seems like the new owners may just be looking to cut corners. Definitely not worth the drive. read more

I know what you're thinking, weren't you just at the D&R Depot? Yes, I was, but then I returned a couple weeks later and didn't regret my decision. My parents and I were coming back from spending a day in Rochester, and we decided to stop here after a couple other places that were recommended to us weren't open on a Sunday. We were seated immediately despite not having reservations. Every table had people seated. I ordered a sidecar and that was delicious. It was my first time experiencing this drink. I ordered the Pittsburgh salad and it was amazing. I don't know if anyone could have a bad experience here. My parents enjoyed their meals as well. A lady at another table ordered a Bloody Mary and it looked exceptional and included a lot of toppers. I have to order that the next time I go. Our waitress was accommodating and very nice. I ordered gluten free and she delivered a warm gluten free muffin for me, while my parents dined on their regular rolls and muffins. It was so good. A train rolled through while we were there, and that meant that the owner went around and delivered a wooden nickel to all who was there for a free dessert the next time they come for a meal. I had no idea that was a thing and it was really cool to experience the train and the wooden nickel. D&R Depot is a restaurant that was previously a train depot where travelers could stop and grab a bite to eat before continuing their journeys. Nowadays, it's an intimate restaurant that also provides services such as catering and the option of booking for various private events. I came for a privately booked service and there was food provided to the guests buffet style. For pasta, I tried their mac and cheese and pasta salad and both were pretty good! They also had a variety of wraps to choose from. I tried their turkey wrap and it was delicious! Side salads among other dishes were present as well. For dessert, I grabbed one of their chocolate chip cookies as well as one their rich brownies, which were excellent! If you are a fan of history and all things vintage, I think you should give this place a try! read more

A very small unique restaurant with limited hours. In a train depot it is very attractive building inside and out. The food is excellent. I was served fresh roll and a chocolate chip muffin with my salad. The poppyseed dressing was house made, the tomatoes ripe and flavorful. The croutons seasoned and obviously house made. I had the vegetable pot pie. Full of gravy, broccoli,carrots, potatoes and other veggies it needed salt and pepper but when you prepare food for the public you should be cautious on the salt. The dish is also vegan with out the pie crust. Dessert was offered but I sadly passed. The next table had apple pie À la mode. It looked wonderful. I will be back. read more

This restaurant is run by a family and gives you the feeling of home. It is in an old train depot and it still has the charm and the décor to go with the building. I went near the end of Covid-19 and they have your silverware wrapped in a cloth napkin, which was all wrapped in saran wrap. I loved this extra touch. Usually during Covid, restaurants just brought you things separate, but they kept with the tradition they always had with the nice napkin and silverware together. The menu is basic comfort food and they give you a basket of rolls and muffins for the table. They were homemade, fresh and warm. I ordered the Sliced Tenderloin on Wyck. The sandwich was so tender and cooked perfectly. It reminded me of having slices off a roast instead of the normal deli sliced slices that usually come on those type of sandwiches. The roll looked homemade, but I am not sure if it was. The fries were standard like everyone else. I used the restroom before I left since I was heading back home to Buffalo. I was a single stall that you could lock and had a shower curtain covering the area by the toilet, like a stall door. I loved having that extra bit of privacy included. It had old photos that I would guess is family photos hung up in there to give it the old time vibe the restaurant was going for. This place started out great and only got better. We were greeted by an older grandmother type hostess...i am guessing she was the owner but that set the stage for a wonderful dinner. It is a quaint place and utilized an old train depot wisely and the decor was perfect for this setting. The menu is large with many home made meals and very hard to choose from. But if you like pot pies they have a variety to pick. That is was peaked my husband's interest but ended up getting the meatloaf loaded with cheese and ham. He started with homemade soup ham and potatoes. Very good and creamy. I started with shrimp cocktail. 4 large shrimp split with lemon and cocktail sauce. I was looking for a surf and turf deal. So I had 2 small filets. Both our meals came with choice of potatoes and veggies. We chose mash with gravy and carrots. I did give this place 5 stars, keep in mind it was for the overall experience. A relaxing and enjoyable dinner. I wouldn't say this was the best filet I had but it was good. They take pride in their food and if you want that home cooked dinner feel this is the place. Potatoes were real mashed potatoes. Gravy thick and lumpy. Employees were absolutely wonderful and patient. They did have drinks and beer. But what I loved is the wine list. All local wineries. I think that is wonderful supporting NY wineries. You don't see that often in restaurants. Now desserts many different pies to choose from, cream puffs and sundaes. We chose strawberry shortcake. It was unbelievable. You would think it was June. Strawberries were so juicy and in a sugar sauce. The shortcake was homemade and doused with whipped cream-the real stuff. So glad we came across this place on our way home. We will be back just to try more things on the menu. Great place and great people! read more

This was such a cute restaurant! We found it through yelp and decided to give it a try. We were so glad we did! The atmosphere couldn't be more charming and quaint, the service was outstanding and the food was delicious! AND not only did they have a gluten free menu, but they also served us the most delicious zucchini muffins alongside the meal! I ordered the gluten free bean burger and GF fries. They took every precaution, and cooked the fries in separate oil to make sure not to cross contaminate. Big win!!! I also got an old fashioned gluten free, sugar free apple pie, which was so tasty too! My friend got the French toast chicken and sweet potato fries. Fabulous evening here for dinner! Staff was wonderful, the owner who is getting up in age was there working and our server told us she is there all day and everyday! That is dedication and commitment and one of many reasons to visit the D&R Depot. I had to try the French onion soup based off all the other reviews and yes it was as good as it gets. The bread basket was fresh and had various breads I had the fish fry for my meal and really enjoyed it. I settled in for a lunch longing to be day drinking like the slew of well retired retirees surrounding me. The french onion soup is delicious and I always love a place that doesn't upcharge for soup as a side. The reuben had a good ratio of toppings and tender thinly sliced corned beef. However....pet peeve....the kraut was so wet, for the love of Pete squeeze your kraut. The otherwise crisped bread sogged pretty quick and the thousand island dressing became watery sandwich tears falling on my plate. What a great place this is. Its a nice drive down Main Street past Batavia coming from Buffalo.A quaint old train depot turned restaurant. Lots to look at on the walls and ceiling . A special nod to the older woman doing the seating. She's clearly been working hard for 50+ years. I had a loaded Bloody Mary with bacon, olives, cheese, celery, pepperocini and a giant shrimp. The French onion soup (with scissors) was hot and hearty. The Monte Cristo made with fresh roasted turkey, ham and cheese was great as were the crisp fries. Our attentive waitress kept the coffee hot and replenished. Nice to see the old style waitress in their matching skirts. The kind of place your grandmother would have loved. We stumbled on this quaint little place while making a trip to an RV dealer in western N.Y. What a pleasant experience! D & R paid homage to the railroad depot space it currently occupied, and was rife with period pictures, novelties, and other reminders of days gone by. The food was excellent. The menu was very robust, with American cuisine, and some interesting selections. Our waitress was extremely pleasant, and staff was really focused on sanitization. Usually order the pot pie. This time I ordered a taco salad. The service is extraordinary and food is great! I really liked the portion size. Not too big! I am not a huge fan of fried taco salad shells, would much rather have chips! I think I am alone on this though, and it was pretty tasty. Love the tea service. We enjoyed our stop at D&R. We were passing through the area on our way back from the Finger Lakes and Yelp suggested this stop, so we went. We were greeted by what has to be one of the cutest old ladies in existence . The food was reasonably priced for what you got. The French onion soup was good, with enough cheese that they give you scissors to cut through it with. The garlic pasta was ok, but slightly under seasoned. My wife and I really enjoyed the chicken pot pie. It was essentially chicken pot pie filling in a bowl with a biscuit on top that had been rolled thin like a pita. The side salads were good, but honestly it's a side salad, can it be amazing? I would certainly stop by again if I were in the area. Portion sides were good and the containers are super nice and actually keep the food warm. I got the chicken parm and the sauce was blah. It had no flavor at all. Doesn't eating in a former train station awesome? Well to some people no, but to me, it's incredible. Imagine enjoying a meal and then all of a sudden, a train chugs on by shaking the entire building so much that everyone starts to topple over, crumble and well you get the point. D&R Depot is unique, probably one of the more interesting restaurants I have eaten at in Rochester. This was a destination on a road trip to East Aurora but recommendations from my grandparents urged me to go give it a try. Visually, it's appealing on the outside and looks to be well kept which extends to the inside of the restaurant. Minus the really creepy lifesize dolls sitting at the front entrance, the décor reflects a train theme. This is completed by a large upside down model train suspended from the ceiling of the main dining area that seems to go around an never-ending circle. It will keep your amusement for a short period of time but it'll get old quickly. Sadly, while I appreciate the design of the restaurant and love it for what it is, it is a tad dated. Moving on from that, the food was really more important but with an odd restaurant like this, I really didn't know what the highlights of the menu were. The menu is a mixed bag of American classics like hamburgers but also chicken dishes as well as soups and salads. I made the mistake of ordering a Steak Sandwich, probably one of the more disappointing dishes to come out that menu but still, it's not terrible. Prior to getting the main course, they hand out a basket of baked bread goods which included types of dinner rolls and muffins as sort of an appetizer to the meal. Hard to say whether these are fresh or not but I enjoyed the dinner rolls, they had good flavor and were nice and fluffy. Sadly, I really wasn't expecting the sandwich to be so...miserable. The steak was tiny, which I would estimate it to be around 4oz. served on hard bread topped with a sauce I was never able to figure out, served with a side of French fries. The fries were crispy and hot but the great side dish didn't make up for the lackluster entrée. There was flavor in the sandwich and had decent taste but the presentation was so poor, it did affect my appetite. When the owner came around just to check up to see how I was doing, I didn't want to upset her so I said I was enjoying my meal just fine. Next time, I will order something different on the diverse menu because I really do want to give D&R another try. The atmosphere is great, service by the staff and owner are commendable, and the food, when chosen correctly, is surprisingly great. With such positives and negatives going against this former train station, I hope to find that one dish here that makes me a return customer for more years to come. read more

Gosh, I hate to remove one star, but here goes. The service is friendly and quite adequate, although all the servers are women wearing floor-length black skirts that made my guest question if they were of some sort of religious cult. Very out of date and uncharming, even if the place is historic. They were not in costume, just wearing a long, black skirt with black sneakers, tsk tsk. Maybe the "charm" wore off on my second visit. The food was meh. Old fashioned high-fat-and-salt- content food. The bread basket had an assortment of goodies, a muffin, two rolls, two sweet rolls--all microwaved. The place was clean, the prices reasonable...just not my type of food. Thankfully for them, it appears their catering business is taking off well. And the corny music, just awful. And that horrid train on the ceiling, starting up now and then, chug chug, tacky tacky. We won't be hurrying back. read more
