Soup AND Salad WITH Bread, in addition to your meal ... in one word, YUM! Upon entry, we felt like we were stepping into a different dimension and simpler times. Candlelit tables and dim sconces on the walls provided a warm, inviting vibe. Surprisingly, the server who greeted us knew us by name and warmly welcomed us to the National Hotel. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and had a great sense of humor. The meal was coursed out perfectly and we enjoyed every bite. Stuffed mushrooms to start were piping hot and flavorful in a ramekin of butter. The hottest thing in Cuylerville was the freshly baked bread-in-a-bag! Perfect to get every morsel of mushroom soup out of our bowls. Usually you have to choose between soup OR salad, not here! We got a fresh greens garden salad following the soup! Our main entrées of steak were perfectly cooked to temp and tasted great with the red wine. The mashed potatoes were fluffy, flavorful and satisfying. Peanut butter and chocolate pie brought our experience to a close. To wrap up the evening, we got to thank the chef and her husband for an amazing dining experience. It's been many years since my husband and I have been here and since we've heard such rave reviews recently, we decided to invite friends to join us for a nice dinner out. I made our reservations with ease a few days in advance. We arrived for dinner the day of and were seated fairly quickly. From there, it took a turn - the service was awful and s-l-o-w! The food though - DELICIOUS! Once our food arrived and we enjoyed the meal, we asked about dessert, but were told we couldn't eat it there and would have to get it to go because they needed our table for other guests. I get it, but seriously?! Not our fault service was slow and our food didn't arrive timely, but to be quickly rushed off was just rude! Then there's the parking fiasco. Who parks 3 rows and blocks people in? Needless to say, we won't be heading back too soon. The current owner told us he's selling the business at the end of the year and we can take up complaints with the new owner! Unbelievable! read more

My husband and I wanted to celebrate our 50th Anniversary so my children and grandchildren dined at the National in Cuylerville New York. I hadn't had lobster in a while and really was looking forward to it So I ordered the twin lobster tails. My son also ordered it. Neither of us could eat it because it was spongy and had a foul taste to it. I really tried because I wanted nothing to go wrong that evening. The lobster tails were $65 per each of the two dinners They still charged us the $65 each the lobster for lobsters that two of us could not eat.That is outrageous! How petty of them! This was an unexpected surprise! The service was great, the food was amazing. I never expected it to be great so far from the beaten path! I had veal french over broccoli (my choice). So delicious. They also give soup, salad and bread with every meal. I had French onion and it was so good. My husband had seafood creole and a seafood bisque as his soup. Post-COVID reopening: The place was booming but our server Sarah kept up with us and our orders and requests on a timely basis. The food was good -- many delicious scallops in my order and the beef barley soup that came eith all our dinners was the best I have ever tasted-- clearly home-made and with actual pie es of beef, all served at the perfect temperature. The stencilled dining room was as pretty as ever and as always, extraordinarily noisy. Conversation among the 4 of us was dufficultThe restaurant and restrooms are definitely handicap accessible, despite being in a historic building. Happy to have this nice place as a dining option again. I have only given 4 stars because of the noise factor, which limits who you dine with and what interaction you can have. This is an aging beauty in Livingston County - a traditional menu and setting. Food is well-prepared and fresh - many sauces, dressings, and desserts made on-site. Service is top-notch and the atmosphere is cozy, warm, and inviting, especially in the winter with the fireplace and candles lit everywhere. My wife and I had dinner tonight at the National Hotel. I suggested it based on a recommendation from a coworker. Although the night started off a little rough with some confusion over which server was assigned our table, it got progressively better. We decided to go with their Saturday night special, 2 meals for $58. You had a choice of 3 entrees all of which included soup & salad, choice of side, and dessert. We both went with the 12 oz prime rib and a baked potato for our side. All of the food was excellent and a tremendous value. The soup was home made, the salad was perfect, the prime rib was an excellent cut of meat, and the desserts were incredible. We also had a great bottle of red wine with dinner for just $19. Overall we really enjoyed our evening and will definitely return! read more

What a hidden gem this is!! Took the family on Saturday nite. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, service, quality and quantity of food!! Our server Ari was very attentive and knowledgeable. You get soup,(fresh and homemade) salad,bread (garlic, hot and fresh) and main course( huge portion). This was our first time at the National Hotel. Our meals were delicious! The heavenly herbed garlic bread came to our table fresh out of the oven and pipping hot. Both soup AND salad were included with the meal, we both had the seafood bisque and would order it again if it's a choice on our next visit. My husband was very happy with the surf and turf he ordered and I had the black and blue filet which was one of the specials for the day. My filet was cooked perfectly and so tender that you could literally cut it with a fork! Unfortunately we had no room for desserts but did squeeze in an after dinner drink at the bar where we got to meet bartender and owner who entertained us with stories about this historic building and family business. read more

The atmosphere is so intimate, and rustic country, and the history so deep that even if the food WAS bad (which it isn't) it would make it worthwhile. Great historic site where you know what you want and what your going to get. If your looking for classically prepared dishes, perfect steak and seafood temperatures, and overall consistency this is a good spot! Its an old building with rustic charm that was at one point a stop on the underground railroad. Homemade soups and sauces, fresh desserts and timely service. The drink selection is a bit limited but has a good overall base. Very intimate setting and a good place to go if your looking for conversation with dinner as it is not a noisy atmosphere. read more

A very old place, so it has an old feel to it. Also reflected in the clientele. Dining area is dark, and quiet though the tables are closely packed.
