We suffered serious monetary damages due to this company's unprofessionalism. They committed to do a garage conversion on our vacation rental home, we signed a contract with them and gave them a deposit. We blocked our calendar for 6 weeks and waited for 4 months for them to be available for the work to begin. Two weeks before the work was supposed to start, after confirming multiple times that everything was on track, they canceled the job. Just said they couldn't do it, that's it. We were left with 6 weeks of lost revenue, unable to find another contractor. Not to mention, months of lost time. If you want a reliable contractor, D&R Select is not the way to go. read more

This is my second time using D & R Select. The first time we used them was for water damage to our Palm Springs rental home, and they were referred to us by our insurance company. We were very pleased back in 2007 with their work at our home . They restored it back to pre-flood condition, and they were able to complete the job in a reasonable amount of time. We have since sold our first rental home in the desert, and bought a new rental property that needed a complete overhaul/updating. While I was totally happy with D & R Select our first go around, I had a bit of apprehension to go with them as I thought maybe they would be too expensive, especially as we are now paying, and not insurance. I thought they may be expensive only as I know that they tended to be very busy with insurance jobs, but also because they do really fantastic work. So, I did my due diligence, and I had three contractors come to my home to bid my job (D & R was one of the three contractors). After meeting with the three contractors, I was most impressed with Rod from D & R Select. He spent the most time at my property and with me. He took photographs, measurements, and did some drawings. He thought through the entire project on the spot. I felt the most confident with him, and after he left, and I called my husband and said, "The bids are not in yet, but we are going with Rod"! Not only did I know he and his crew did great work at our old home, but he made me feel confident that he and the crew were going to make all of my dreams come true with this new home. The funny thing is, that even though I was going to hire Rod at D&R regardless of the price, all the bids were relatively close. That being said, D & R actually beat the price of one of the other contractors who showed me photos of what they did at my former home (by the new owner)....LOL! How ironic! I am happy we made the decision to go with D & R. They did make my dreams come true, and exceeded my expectations....And they did all this in the time frame that my husband asked for! What we had done: Open up and raise the ceiling in the kitchen. Also, I had them install brand new euro cabinets, install a new kitchen window, install can lighting, install quartz counter tops in the kitchen, bathrooms, and dry bar. In addition, I had D & R take out a stackable washer/dryer that was in the kitchen, and re-install it with venting to a closet that is on the outside of the home. I also want to give a special shout out to Hugo. He was the foreman on our job and he is the best! He is professional, a pleasure to work with, and I don't think there is any problem out there that he can't solve. I am so impressed and thankful to Hugo. In closing, I can say that I 100% recommend D & R Select! This is my second go around with them, and I would use them again in a heart beat. read more

I used this company after receiving a list of local companies from my insurance company. I had a pipe break in my condo in the kitchen. The home warranty company came out and had to remove all the bottom cabinets. Then the plumber came and repaired the plumbing. I called D & R Select Construction to rebuild the shells and put the cabinets back in place. The granitite had to be propped up from the demolition and was very secure. When the men came out to replace the cabinets, they put screws in which cracked the granite. Rod ( the owner ) refused to take responsibility, blaming previous workers. He even said they cut the screws off so they wouldn't touch. My husband removed one screw where the crack started and had not been shortened. There were also other problems but this was major. Rod tried to repair the granite which made it worse. I had to get a granite restoring company in the polish, smooth and make it look acceptable. He refused to turn this into his insurance company but then did agree to pay the $1500.00 to restore as best as could be done. I have a full time renter in there who treats it like she owns it. She knew constantly what was being done. He never showed up to check on things until the damage was done. We caught him in several untruths so it makes it hard to recommend this company. We selected them to rebuild our home after a flood. Long process ,, nice people. Watch out for details @ completion. Some serious mistakes. Such as during the painting process , the sprinkling system was broken, by the workers. & we had to point it out. The bushes were replaced. But not the quality of the originals. When the new electrical was replaced in the attic, the cooling system duct work was broken apart, hand to go up there and fix ourselves. Rod the owner is a nice person but needs to improve with his billing process . Added 10%to the bill for stocking &10% profit.since he was working for State Farm. Nice job with the extras we requested for them. !!! They were recommended by State Farm . They were on state farms side ,,,not ours. If you want perfection with repairs,,this is not the place. Effort from Rod,in management was wonderful, but a lot of details of the actual works is lacking... Recently used another major construction company to complete the job for our kitchen & they got five stars!!! read more

Rod and Liz and the whole team were wonderful!!! We had a major water leak that did nearly $40,000 damage while we were living in our Seattle home. Rod gave us an honest bid, helped us with getting the insurance company to approve everything, and did the work in a timely manner. We added some upgrades and he was great about that too. Rod never lied to us about anything and his price came in where he said it would. I have never had a home claim, other than theft of scheduled jewelry, in my life and had no idea how to work with the insurance company and the bank. Rod helped me greatly. Turns out the repairs were the easy part, thanks to Rod. Dealing with the insurance co. and the bank were the hard part! I would NEVER recommend Kemper Insurance to anyone! D & R Select Construction handled the entire Restoration after my water loss. They showed up on time to view the property, and produced a full estimate which was sent up to my insurance company, soon after they began working on our home. During the entire process the staff and Rod kept us informed. They would send us pictures of the progress every week or so. This helped tremendously since we are "Winter Bird owners" When it was time to select certain materials or paint, carpet, faucets etc. they made the process seamless. They even mailed out some samples. It was all highly organized and allowed us to keep a list of all that we selected. In a nut shell it was a great experience. I have personally had D & R Select Construction remodel 2 homes that had significant water damage to like brand new, finished a house that was down to the studs and built it back to make it look like a palace which helped us sell the property. He remodeled a dated condo which needed a complete kitchen, bath and flooring remodel. Rod is honest, professional, timely and always looking to do the best work and stands behind it! No excuses or "bait and switch" like I have experienced in the past with other contractors before working with him and his company. We had a great experience with our bathroom remodel with Rod and D&R. The scope of work and schedule was clearly outlined and maintained. They were responsive, and the communication with them was easy. Liz kept us well informed. The sub-contractors worked in a professional manner, and the quality of work was high. They were considerate of our tenant who stayed as the project was being completed, and they also cleaned up their work before they left the house at the end of each day. DON"T let these people near your house -much less in it - they were called by the insurance agent office for a clean-up - minor flood incident - and proceeded to TEAR MY HOUSE APARTt in their quest for insurance dollars - even after I told them to STOP several times- they continued to destroy my house - I am a disabled senior and spent the next two days being badgered & bullied by one of the senior staff trying to get me to hire them to put it back together - the insurance co declined my claim and they knew that at the very beginning - I had to hire another contractor to repair their damage and litigation is pending - Below -My response to their comments'a/o 7/2/2014 The company has posted below an attempt to justify their actions - They cannot and did not - the response is pure fantasy complete with violin music. Needless to say most is totally incorrect 1.There is/was NO legal contract at any time 2.The insurance adjuster arrived in 2-3 HOURS NOT DAYS My time with the Ins Company was 3 mos not 20 years 3.The Damage Classification was/is entirely arbitrary (by them-of course) as an attempt to intimidate and justify the destruction wrought - besides removing partial walls - three rooms of carpet were removed (remember- they said level 3 contamination) - and interestingly I was offered as a replacement some of the "leftovers" from another job they had in their warehouse 4.A "water loss of this magnitude" (their words) - in fact water was less than 1 inch (clear and confined to the hall) but did impact bedroom doorways - walls 12 and 15 feet from any water source were cut away (seeking Insurance reconstruction dollars - by this time MY $). Yes - I did stop payment on a check that was demanded by them in excess of legal amts ( or they would walk away - which they ended up doing anyway - leaving me to cope with their mess) So Yes - they did complete and amplify the loss (their words). Consulted with them to add bath. Agent came out promptly with great ideas & professionalism for 20k project, and 3-4 month waiting period. During that time I did a lot of legwork providing isometrics, plans, photos & walkthroughs of identical neighboring project. In the end they blew me off, not returning pho calls and eventually raising planning costs and expectations. Nice folks, but they pick & choose, & the little guy gets lost. read more
