I have ordered at the Charlton westbound rest area D'Angelos and on my most recent trip we were here at the eastbound branch. (They share the space with another sandwich shop, but I don't remember the name.) I guess my short comparison of the two branches is that at this store the food was better and the service not so much. I ordered the vegetable sandwich. In my head I expected just the onions, peppers and mushrooms to be sautéed, but ai don't know why. It is D'Angelos, so it was all sautéed. But no harm done as it tasted fine. My wife had the chicken teriyaki rice bowl and also liked hers. The woman at the cashier was rather abrupt with us, but we did take a a minute to decide on what we wanted. She also called out my name and someone else's at the same time, so there was a pause at the counter to make sure we'd got the right order. I always stop at Charlton plaza on my way to Boston & love the Steak bomb #9 rice bowl. However, reminder to myself to stay away from the Korean steak on rice. It tastes nothing like Korean steak, frankly it tasted weird. Should have just stayed with #9. read more

How does it feel to know that D'Angelo has taken all his clothes off again? There's not too much to eat along the Massachusetts Turnpike without getting off and paying extra, so this little sandwich shop is very helpful and better than most. The main problem is the hours, because while most service stops have at least one or two places that are open around the clock, you can only get sandwiches here during your regular business hours, which makes it slightly less effective as a travel stop food destination. read more

This is a crowded spot because it is a service rest stop. There was a long line but they moved through it quickly...it helps that there were only two pizza options haha. Cheese and pepperoni. It would be nice if they had more of a variety but the cheese pizza was delicious !! I was so impressed! Will definitely be on the lookout for this pizza joint in the future ! 2 times in the last week I have came to this location asked for a turkey grinder hot on the grill they only toast the bread and everything else is cold. The girl at the counter is more interested in her phone and joking around with the cooks in the back who are to busy adjusting there hats due to having long hair and proceeding to continue making sandwiches with the same gloves that were touching their heads . The charlton location is the worst d'angelo's i've been. Generally, I'm a fan of the tried and true #9. I've order it with the works, as well as explicitly stating the toppings i'd like. Apparently, it's received as just that: things I'd like, not things I'll receive. Without fail, this location will disregard toppings or instructions. I've no idea why they bother asking what you'd like. They'll give you what they give you. As it goes, I'll be sticking with mcD's when I pop into this rest area. read more

This D'Angelo's located at the Charlton Service Plaza is our favorite restaurant to stop at if we are dropping by to use the restrooms. The food here is your typical D'Angelo's, but the prices are slightly higher. That being said, it beats the overpriced McDonald's. Every time we have eaten here the food has been made fresh and the quality is decent. The only additional tip I have is if you buy a fountain soda here then slurp it down, refill and go. read more

You know it's bad when you wish you went to McDonalds. We've all been there: you're on the road, and you have limited options. I figured a nice toasty sub would be better than a Big Mac and I was so wrong. After waiting a crazy long time for our food, I got my Chicken No.9-- which should have been a chicken, grilled onion/pepper/mushroom combo with cheese, but was instead a chicken sub slathered in teriyaki sauce with a sprinkle of veggies and cheese. My husband's sub should have come with "Vermont cheddar cheese" but had no cheese on it. He said it was really bland. If we weren't in a rush, I would have complained, but with the already long wait we endured, we ate what we could stomach and left. Luckily there's Yelp! And I can tell you all to avoid this place. You'd get food faster by going to a local grocery store, purchasing the raw materials for a sandwich, and then buying a house, going through the process of closing on that house, purchasing a stove, and then cooking the meat; rather than waiting for the rude and glacial service here. If I stop at the Charlton Plaza on the Mass Pike eastbound for something to eat, this D'Angelo's is my preference. That's partly because for me a sub is a reasonable option and partly because just about everything else here is part of the McFranchise. I expected this D'Angelo's to be very similar to the one I often visit at the Lee plaza eastbound on the Pike, and it was. The prices here are probably slightly higher for the privilege of eating at a turnpike travel plaza, but otherwise this is a good food option. read more

I had the BBQ Pork sandwich and not sure if I would go back again unless I'm really hungry. It was like eating cardboard. Salt and spices must be in short supply in the kitchen. It also took a long time (over 15 mins) to get the order. To be fair, there was a line over 10 people but it was very slow in any standard. I would recommend your logistics for this place should be: place your order, go out and fill up the car with gas, go to the rest room, take a nap, and then go back and hopefully it would be a shorter wait for the sandwich to get ready. read more

This place doesn't even deserve one star. I ordered a hot sub and it was 100% cold. My chicken was cold, the cheese wasn't melted, the entire order was wrong. The employees had ZERO customer service. It doesn't matter how fast paced your job is, and how long the line is, these employees clearly could not work under pressure. Just because you work at a rest stop doesn't give you the right to work half-assed. I've worked in the food business for 5 years and I definitely wasn't taught to give customers dirty looks as they waited for their meals. I don't know too much about this New England-based franchise, except that they have many locations. On my way home from Boston, I stopped at the one on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Charlton. For truck-stop fast food, it was pretty decent. They have a large and appealing menu of soups, salads, and sandwiches, including something called a "steak bomb", which is a cheesesteak with Italian salami and capicola added on top. Whew, maybe they should call it the "cardiac bomb". Everything is made to order quickly. I had a lobster roll, which is something you can't really get in NJ. The meat was tender and flavorful. I enjoyed it. This place was a refreshing alternative to the usual McDonald's, Burger King, Roy Rodgers, etc. that you normally find at a roadside rest stop. Aside from this place, there was also a state-sponsored farmers' market under some tents adjacent to the restaurant building, where I picked up some fresh corn on the cob, peaches, homemade preserves, and a jar of fresh farm honey.
