Stopped by for dinner as we had a gift card. It was late afternoon and the restaurant was not busy when we arrived. The menu was a bit overwhelming and when we asked for help it felt like I was a burden. A quick response was given but wasn't really helpful. My husband ordered a salad and I got pizza so we both could share. The food was good although I ordered gorgonzola cheese on my pizza which was too strong. This is a clean modern space, with an unusual method of ordering. You get a menu covered in plastic and a sharpie to circle the ingredients you would like on your salad, pizza, etc. We received a complimentary serving of bread and an oil/vinegar dip. I ordered a salad and my wife got a pizza and we shared. We still had stuff to take home when we were finished. The variety of available options encourages trying different additions to your order. We have enjoyed their olive oils and vinegars since they first opened their doors in Lewiston several years ago. This was our first time at their restaurant and they did a nice job. The menu was adequately diverse, and they have you mark your order right on it up with an erasable marker, which is efficient. We have purchased D'Avolio olive oils for years; it's very good with a nice variety of oil and vinegar. The oil choices are from mild to robust and like the vinegars, some are infused with herbs. It's helpful that our health insurance plan allows this as a heart healthy purchase. They wrap the bottles purchased in tissue paper and place in a sturdy handled bag. As for the food, it's very good! From the sandwiches to the pizzas, always a delicious meal. However, ordering is kitschy with a laminated menu presented to you with a dry erase marker for you to circle and check your choices. This is table service. Also the atmosphere at the East Amherst location is cold and loud; metal rafters make lousy acoustics. It's hard to chat over the music. It's also on the pricey side, especially if you order a libation. But good food is expensive. If you would like a tasty sauce, the red sauce to go is excellent. I have to be honest and say that I think this overpriced little sandwich and salad shop is a little overrated. On the other hand I can see why everybody loves it. Because you have people that refuse to try all the amazing sandwiches and holes-in-walls that I have discovered over the years, but they will enthusiastically tell you that this, which is good but not spectacular, is the greatest thing they've ever eaten. So the meatball sandwich went down very well with the people at my place, although I thought it was just okay. The salad wasn't great according to anybody that had a little bit. Mostly it was for me. One of the main problems was that they were too small for the price, and too expensive even if they had been much larger. But another problem was that the only give you a very limited number of ingredients,and if you surpass that you start getting into all kinds of additional charges. With these base prices there is no need to be giving additional charges for anything to be honest. One good thing was that the daughter of the owner was here when I was here. We had a long discussion and she was the reason why I got all the stuff that I got - she's a real sweetheart. I am updating this review because of the bad experiences the last few times. The service is slow and visiting on lunch I am short on time and now they will not let you call in your order ahead of time. It shouldn't be that hard to prepare a salad so it may be that the servers aren't that on top of things. Also the last 2 times they were out of the plain balsamic and many of the flavored oils. I like mixing up my own dressing and both times was forced to choose from the pre-made flavors that I did not like. I hope they can get it together soon because the food is very good. Love the new restaurant that I've been waiting what feels like forever to open! I knew the food would be amazing just like the other locations and it did not disappoint!The salads are so good and so huge I get atleast 2 meals out of them. I love that everything is customizable so you know you can always get exactly what you want and you don't have to feel bad for it. The chefs there are great and Jack, the bartender make amazing drinks and is fun to talk to. All their salads are phenomenal and dressings are made with their vinegars and oil! This is my absolutely favorite spot for lunch or dinner. It's close to work so I'm always ordering take out for lunch, or stopping in after work for dinner. The food is amazing. The taste is wonderful, staff are friendly and accommodating, and the environment is cute. There are several options and choices on the menu. The basic meals they offer are salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. All three things are amazing!!! The menu is fun, and when you sit down you are instructed to circle the items you want and select all of your toppings that go on it. I've tried all options but on this day I had a salad with chicken, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, banana peppers and cucumbers. For the salads you can choose a premade dressing, or if you're adventurous you can choose your own oil and vinegar yourself! I love trying the different flavors and creating new combos. This place is great if you want to split a meal with a friend. The portions are HUGE! Well worth the money. 1 option can easily become 2 meals. My review is for this location only. We visited during the kitchen hours Saturday early evening to grab pizza for dinner before grocery shopping (which you're not supposed to do on an empty stomach). I have had my fair share of D'Avolio for lunch from the downtown location near where I work, usually sandwiches or salad, always yummy. This location... could use some work. The good: our pizza was made to order and tasted fresh. It didn't take very long to come out either cuz their flatbread crust is quite thin. Just long enough for DH to run next door to Tim Ho's to grab a wrap for our picky 5 y/o, since they don't have a kids menu and he wouldn't have liked our salmon-olive arugula pizza (we cleared this with the waitress first, since some places don't allow outside food). The pizza was a good size for an entree for two people. We didn't order anything else (except drinks). The OK: there is a limited selection of wine and beer. I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio but the waitress forgot, so I didn't get it until I was halfway done eating. Service was very friendly but she was the only server there so a bit scattered. We also sat at the table near the cabinet where they store the plates and such, so our waitress was crouching down near the table every few minutes rattling around for dishes whenever she needed them, which was a little awkward but not the biggest deal. It's a small place so storage is limited apparently. The not-good: the place could use some cleaning. The chairs were not wiped down well when we arrived. The drink menu was dog-eared and filthy (bits of food stuck to it from prior patrons). I mean, restaurant menus are notoriously germ-ridden, but you shouldn't be able to tell just by looking. The women's bathroom was out of soap and the foot pedal on the trash can was broken so I had to use my hand to open it and discard the paper towel (though my hands weren't really clean anyway due to lack of soap). This is bougie East Amherst, I would have expected at least basic sanitation. Overall: I'd be more likely to get takeout here rather than dine in again. So in full disclosure I have a friend that works here however I first visited the Williamsville location that was not the reason I went. My friend has since moved from the Williamsville location to here and it is close to my office so I like to order lunch and make run over. The reason I really like D'Avoilo is the freshness of the ingredients and the ability to make everything your own. If you haven't been here, this location is no longer just an oil and vinegar store. D'Avoilo has transformed this into a kitchen +. Upon walking in the door is framed with two shelves where you'll find baskets and other items great for gifting, that's not the only options however. Take a walk to the back of the store, near the register and you'll find more items to browse. They also have a line of beauty products to check out. In the middle of the store you'll see the two walls of oil containers along with shelves underneath. Feel free to sample the variety of oils they have, bread is available to dip along with little plastic cups to poor the oil into. You may have to tip the container ever so slightly to get the oil flowing and of course be careful to not drop or spill as we all know oil is difficult and slippery to clean up. If your back is to the door, on the left side towards the end you'll find the balsamic vinegars, same as with the oils you are welcomed to sample. I highly recommend trying the fig balsamic, chocolate balsamic, espresso balsamic and strawberry balsamic. When it comes to oils I recommend the lemon olive oil and the cayenne oil. Restaurant seating is around the edges of the store and in warmer months there is patio seating available. The menu is self-explanatory but if you have any questions the helpful staff is assist. Basically the gist is you circle the items on the menu under the header of the item you want. The main items are pizza, salad, antipasto and sandwich. Go section by section and select as many items as you like, each section points out how many items by default you get and the cost per item if you want to get more. I generally get the pizza (look at my pics) and my Mom gets the antipasto. I love the arugula on pizza, whatever they toss it in before putting it on the pizza really gives it great flavor. I ordered a custom pizza with honey garlic chicken, an assortments of veggies and a tasty red sauce. The thin and crispy crust was perfectly done and the toppings were fresh and overall a very good pizza. The side salad was fresh and I made my own herb de province oil and 18 year old balsamic vinegar dressing from the samples. Ended up leaving with a few bottles of flavored oils as well. It's a little pricey but for the freshness and customization it is well worth it. Not too many tables so it could fill up quickly. Ample parking and easy to access from Transit Road. An amazing family owned restaurant with high quality and fresh ingredients. I've been to 3 out of 4 of their locations and they're all very similar in quality of food and service. Their selection of entrees is limited to sandwiches, salad, pizza and antipasto but everything is completely customizable and they have a wide selection of items. For the quality of food I feel as if the prices are reasonable. My go to is usually a steak sandwich, but their pizzas are another favorite of mine. If you're looking for Healthier Options they're partnered with Independent Health Healthy Living and their menu is premarked with healthier options. The interior can get a little crowded since they sell all their own oils and vinegars. If you're going to get food from here (which I totally recommend) consider ordering to go or online! read more

Everything was so fresh and delicious. They have so many unique dressings they make right there that can make every meal different. So when there was only 1 other table besides mine , I was super annoyed that the service was so bad. We had 3 different people, I couldn't decide if they were all servers or busers or maybe they just rotated every time they went up to a table. Our first waitress put our menu down with a pen - didn't even ask if we've been there before- I have been to the other location so I knew what to do, but my friend was confused. We waited 10 mins for our juice, never got our water, and my friend never got her side of fruit. When I went to the williamsville location the service was great - it is one thing that sticks out when I think of D'Avolio. I expected service to be just as good but it wasnt even close. I had this restaurant on my list for a while and was excited to finally try it. I have to say I was disappointed-not in the food but in the service. I feel like I'm only giving it a three because I liked the food. I honestly would probably not go back to this location because of the service and would try their Williamsville location to see if I would have better luck. I love that you get to try their oils in their salads-I tried the chipotle vinaigrette and it was really good. Their sandwich are also very good. As I stated previously I was disappointed in their service. Our food (which were only salads, sandwiches and soup) came out at all different times even though our order was taken at the same time. Mine was about 10-15 minutes behind my parents and they were done with their order by the time I got mine. During the time we were waiting our waiter avoided us and didn't come close to our table the entire time. I wouldn't have minded waiting as long if he would have come over to let us know or given a reason. I'm guessing the order was lost. This location is in a small strip center near Transit. Easy parking, always something I love. I was the only patron in the store all three times i have stopped in.
