Figured out one of our favorite restaurants have brunch on Saturday and Sunday! Everything on the menu sounded delectable! French toast with ricotta whipped cream and berries, crab cake benny, but the smoked salmon toast and baked eggs won out. The toast had tangy Roquefort crumbles and pesto on it. I don't always like smoked salmon, especially if it's mushy... This was nice quality salmon. It was a thicker piece and not mushy at all. I really enjoyed this toast. The baked eggs were two over easy eggs on top of potatoes, peppers, mushrooms, and onions. The menu said it had pancetta, but I didn't notice any. Also got a peach Bellini, even though it was super sweet... It was very tasty. Their coffee, also... Superb! So many times you go places and the coffee is just blah. I don't know what they're using, but I really liked it. There were tons of choices for brunch, including meatballs and sausage, salad, soup, and your regular breakfast fair. Food 4/5 in quality, taste and quantity. Our small pizzas "pizzetas" were were $15 each. Not large enough to fill your belly, but they were tasty. Interesting - the pizzas were prepared by an Indian chef who was manning the stone oven. He came over to meet us on his way out at 10 PM. He was very friendly and we enjoyed meeting him. The calamari appetizer $19 was delicious but pricey. Alcohol always runs up the bill. Two glasses of wine and one glass of Prosecco put our bill to $82 with tax. I liked the Italian pottery decor. The bar area looked inviting and nice with the triangular shaped wooden shelving and yellow lights. Our server was friendly and helpful. I would come back for good Italian food. Charming little nook near my hotel. It's definitely a local joint, but that should not deter anyone coming in here. The pork chop was excellent. It's a lot less uppity than Giancarlo's...which is good if you aren't in the mood for that world. Very good Italian fare and convenient to my hotel (It's always best to explore food outside of hotel). Trattoria seems to have a local following, with quite a few people at the bar and dining room. I was greeted by the cheerful bartender Sandy, as well as the owner, who was also present. A worthy Caesar (with choice of anchovy) and flavorful dressing started me off. This place is a hidden gem. Of all the time I've spent in BUF this was my first time here. I was pleasantly surprised. The ambience is very Italian and homey. The service is excellent, Jeannie really took care of us for Sunday Brunch. My Bloody Mary was very tasty. I had the crab benedict which was on point. The pan cake portions were "YUGE" enough for two easily. They are doing brunch on Friday through Sunday which offers nice options for dinning in the Buffalo area. Menu is comprehensive. I was staying around the corner and it was snowy outside, so I decided to find a spot to walk and this was the closest. It was about an hour before close on a weekday so the place was pretty empty, I'm not sure why though because it was fantastic. Definitely an old Italian restaurant feel and aesthetic, you know what you're walking into. I sat at the bar and had great service all night long. The pasta looked amazing but I went for a salad and meatballs - both amazing. The beet salad was SO GOOD honestly I would be here regularly to get it if I lived in the area. I will definitely be trying to copycat it at home. The cake was also great, moist and delicious. I'm not usually a fan of restaurant cake but this one was almondy and flavorful, so good. We dine there frequently and the food is always good but they now have a new manager and bar manager. I have always had house vodka and unsweetened tea which was always $8.00. Now that they have a new bar manager he is trying to make fancy cocktails! Mine is a simple drink but they charged me $16.00 which was outrageous!! They are charging prices for a high end restaurant which it's not! If we go back to dine there I will definitely drink tap water. I also forgot to mention the bar manager ate something at the back table and went to the bar sink to wash his Face !! This was a few times and very noticeable! We had a reservation for Sunday at 11:30 am. There was a party of seven in the main dining room . The waitress suggested that we stay in the bar area where it was freezing cold but she set up a small space heater. We ordered our drinks and then our food we were ordered by 1145 and our food was served at 12:40. A one hour wait for an egg dish is not acceptable. The waitress downplay did and said sorry this took a few extra minutes, but we had that large party in the dining room. The large party she was referring to was the seven women that were there when we arrived. There was a man wearing a ski cap seemingly working he never approached our table. We don't know why he was there or why he was wearing a hat inside. I will say on a positive note that my baked eggs were delicious. read more

One of the worst experiences that I ever had at a restaurant. When we walked in, we realized that there was literally "NO HEAT'' in the place. When we asked about the heat, we were told there was a problem with the furnace, and it should get warmer by 9:00 PM. We were there at 5:00 PM! This happened Last Tuesday when the outside temperature was 5 degrees. We sat at our table with our Jackets on, and in my case, my hat and gloves on. Just a horrible experience! As for the food, it was so so, and do I have to say it was cold upon arrival? Lastly, the staff was not at all sympathetic or conciliatory about the situation. I will never go back! PS...A credit card is required when you make the reservation! That is the only reason we did not walk out when we sat down. read more

My wife and I had Dinner there on Wednesday night. Normally we really enjoy ourselves there but this night not so much. To start with I ordered a manhattan but ended up with straight up bourbon since they were out of vermouth. Minor problem but when I went to the men's room to wash my hands the toilet was backed up and it remained so the rest of the night but they kept the room open?? My wife's pasta dish was good but the pizza I ordered was a complete disappointment. Tasteless with tuff crust. My friend and I decided to treat ourselves and get some REAL Italian food so we went to Trattoria Aroma. Neither of us (both Italian Americans) was disappointed with our decision. She ordered the Pappardelle alla Bolognese, and reported that the Bolognese sauce was very tasty with just the right amount of meat, and the pappardelle, wide pasta strips, was cooked to perfection. I also ordered pappardelle, but mine was Pappardelle Del Piemonte, a magical combination of pasta with mushrooms, spinach and parmigiana with a touch of truffle oil in what appeared to be a small amount of broth. Absolutely delicious! The bread with its crisp crust and yet tender texture, served with a delicate olive oil for dipping, provided the perfect accompaniment. We each indulged in some classic Italian desserts and they and the coffee served, were the best I've had in a long time. The restaurant was comfortable with the exception of the small slightly wobbly table at which we were seated. The good service and excellent food made up for the slight flaw! The last time I came I didn't have a great experience. Food was great, as it always is. My issue had been with the bartender. I decided I wasn't going to let one time ruin one of my favorite "go to" restaurants in Buffalo. Reno immediately greeted me and apologized. He didn't need to apologize , but he did. Worst restaurant I've ever been to in my life. Dinner reservations were at 7:15 didn't get my food until 845. Made friends with the other four tables next to us because we were all complaining that we've been waiting almost 2 hours to get our food. Watched at least four parties leave during this time because their wait time was also horrible. Finally got my food, ordered the lobster ravioli, and got four pieces of ravioli. got some beef appetizer. It was disgusting smelt like feet and tested like rubber told the waitress she just took it away and still made us pay for it. I'm really upset that I felt guilty not leaving a tip. Heavily advertised happy hour 4:30-6 is unfortunately only avail at non-spacious bar that seats 9 or so. Website nor poster style ads hung all over restaurant do not clearly state "bar only" (see photo). Anyways, moving on, our party was asked 3 times if we had a reservation in an empty restaurant which I find annoying. Owner started yelling at hostess as we were waiting to be sat. We were sat at a table on the bar side. Server was nice, but owner was stand-offish and per replies to costumer reviews, rather contentious. Perhaps he's just too busy yelling at his staff (see other reviews) or immediately replying to yelp reviews, LOL. Our party decided to order just 2 medium sized pizzas ($18 pepperoni and $17 cheese) and go somewhere else afterwards. I don't typically like to comment on complimentary bread and oil, but both were markedly stale and bland. Overall, pizza had decent flavor and use of good ingredients, but it was poorly executed. Several reviews mention poorly cooked pizza, overcooked/burnt for some and for others, undercooked. Ours were of the latter, undercooked all the way, with no undercarriage, just a saucy floppy mess, that one was forced to eat with a knife and fork. I'm a bit surprised by this coming from a wood or brick oven operation. Definitely NOT somewhere to go for just pizza. Overall, I should have paid closer attention to other 1 star yelp reviews that highlight issues with service and owner. In one review, a customer complained of a nearly 3 hour wait for their meals and said they likely wouldn't return to which the owner promptly replied, "please do not!". Update: as expected the owner quickly replied to my post to externalize blame. He's amended his reply so it's a little softer. Firstly, we didn't ask to sit at the bar with minors, though owner is overly focused on this. We were fine sitting wherever the hostess sat us and made no request to specifically sit at the bar or the low top right behind the bar stools. And I guess I didn't make the assumption based off website and posters in restaurant that food specials were only for those actually sitting on a bar stool with their elbows on the bar. But it wasn't even a big deal, we didn't make it an issue about it, and moved on. We decided to just get two pies and go somewhere else more because we were uncomfortable sitting behind a group of loud regulars at the bar, who I'll mention offered the owner a glass a wine. But, my one star review was based off the terrible pizza, nothing else. Update: owner keeps wanting to argue about minors at the bar which isn't even the issue. Even going so far as sending me a PM on yelp! Anyways, to that, I'll mention... The Alcoholic Beverage Control Law does not prohibit a child's sitting at a bar as long as the child is accompanied by an adult, said Bill Crowley, a spokesman for the New York State Liquor Authority. While in Buffalo to watch my nephew's baseball team play Marist I happened upon a wonderfully authentic Italian trattoria tucked into a small strip mall in Williamsville. After a wonderful lunch of grilled eggplant, salad, and a glass of chianti, I made reservations for the evening for my family and friends who were in town for the games. Dinner did not disappoint! Service was excellent, drinks well made, and an assortment of appetizers (the ahi tuna, lamb lollipops were especially outstanding) kept the table busy while we discussed the days game against Marist. The staff made me feel like I was back in Italy! We were treated as one of "the family," and no one felt rushed! There were 7 of us and everyone's meal came out uniformly excellent! The boys had double filet mignon's which were perfectly grilled, the Salmon piccata was amazing, and the pasta dishes were outstanding! As we drained a second lovely bottle of chianti, the owner came by and was kind enough to recommend a bottle of his personal favorite red, which it turned out paired perfectly with our meals! Trattoria Aroma, with its food, wine and warm hospitality is as close as you can get to being in Italy while still in Buffalo! Not sure where to start. Maybe from the entrance to the restaurant. It's a forgotten part of this business, and someone should take care of it... or not, but why not? Let's make this review too long, like the time we were waiting for our food:). I understand, in Italy people take their time at the table enjoying drinks, bites to eat and each other's company. What if two people are just hungry and want to eat? There is no lovely patio available with a beautiful or interesting view. We are not in Italy. The restaurant is located on a busy Main Street in a small plaza in Williamsville. Our cheerful server took care of our order just before a big group. It was a very thoughtful gesture from her side. Making a fast decision about what to have wasn't easy, but we wanted food as soon as possible. We started our meal with complimentary bread with dipping oil. Next, our choice of Roasted Beet Salad with arugula, goat cheese and lemon Dijon vinaigrette was surprisingly very small, overly oily and tasted mild/bland/boring. If I had known, I would have definitely saved my bread and ate it with the tiny salad to add some balance and texture. The goat cheese was silky, milky and delicious, though. The main dishes were brought to our table about fifty minutes after ordering. Was it a long time on Monday evening? I would say it depends, but in our case yes. It made me wonder what could have happened if we ordered after that big group? Ouch! My Tagliatelle Frutti di Mare was good. The house pomodoro sauce tasted fresh and delightful. All seafood was prepared beautifully and I enjoyed it fully. The Tagliatelle was cooked more al'dente than I'm used to. My partner craved some noodles. I believe his choice of Spaghetti Carbonara was tasty and satisfying. We ate possibly too fast and left. It wasn't my first time at Trattoria Aroma, which has been in the area since 1993. I ate here a few years ago and the food was fantastic. Yesterday's meal was anything but that. First we were given stale bread. I'm not one to send things back, but I was hungry and this was hard to eat. I'm fairly certain what they brought back was the same bread after a minute warming in the oven. The bolognese was overcooked to the point of mushiness and I don't know how the sauce managed to be both flavorless and bad tasting. Neither my companion nor myself could eat more than a few bites. A wonderful pre-birthday dinner! We sought out an Italian restaurant during our trip to Niagara Falls, NY and this place did not disappoint! Upon entering, the rustic and authentic feel of the decor added to our excitement for the food! We started wit bread service (one of my favorite things), followed by a wonderfully fresh caprese salad. We decided to add on some lollipop lamb chops...Delish! Disappointment is not even the word I would like to use to describe my experience tonight firstly I started off the night with with no one seating me where I had to go up to the owner and ask where I could sit down and then my first waiter completely forgot about us and ignored us for 30 minutes. They didn't serve us bread, which is like it's an Italian place how do they not serving bread and oil we need to ask for it again then I had to ask for another waiter because I didn't get the first one and then that waiter came up to us 30 minutes later saying oh my God I forgot where your order is could you just like repeat it then the people all next to us told us that they had reservations earlier than us and it had been an hour and a half, and we haven't received our food. Also my appetizer with dog and everyone left and my food wasn't really good so overall terrible experience on Valentine's Day. Brought my cousin here for her birthday and the service was absolutely terrible. Our server completely ignored us for the first 12 minutes, no water no bread. When he finally came, I ordered a glass of wine. After a few minutes he came back and said "Sauvignon blanc? What's that can you point to it?" And then it took another almost 10 minutes just to get my wine. He wouldn't come back to check on us or take our order, and at this point other tables of his had already complained about him. Tables that arrived half an hour after us were cashed out and gone before ours even brought our meal. It was so uncomfortable and completely ruined the evening. 2 stars only because the food itself was delicious. read more
