I've used D Rohde a couple of times over the years and no real complaints, but this last time service call will certainly be the last. This last time I placed a service call and they gave me a schedule... when that day came, they never showed up. I called and they told me they had emergencies and had to reschedule my call. They apologized for not having someone call me to warn me and rescheduled the day. When that day came... same thing. They were a no-show and no call. Long story short: my wife and I are taking care of a house that is currently vacant, and a long drive from where we live, and discovered that there was a leak from the boiler unit in the basement: a terrifying prospect. We needed a rapid response if possible since we needed to leave town. Rohde was able to expedite having someone come by on a Saturday morning, and the technician who came by was extremely gracious and competent. He had foot covers to protect his shoes as he came in, was able to rapidly perform trouble-shooting and explain the situation to us, and came up with a smart and inexpensive approach to making a fix. We have had a few issues in the last two months. The first was heating not working on top floor of the house. Brian came and fixed that issue. Unfortunately, a few months later our boiler that was 35 years old finally kicked it and we had to replace it. Brian came to look at it and explained that it unfortunately had to be replaced. We were not charged for his evaluation. Brian was personable, quick to come to our home and definitely seemed to know what he was doing. We also had to have our sink fixed in our kitchen and they came the next day promptly to fix it. This company also kept us abreast of when they were coming via text and email. I recommend this company. I hope this company knows what they have with Brian. I am seeing most of their positive reviews are due to how he handles himself. read more

I have waited a full week for an appointment to have my broken AC serviced. The first appointment was a no show because someone forgot too out me on the schedule. Thye apologized and said we can get you in tomorrow. So today is the day and no show again. They do not have someone who can come for the repair the technician will be on their current job all day. So the woman on the phone refers us to Sarah. After 2 days, we finally speak with "Sarah"...by the way, shes the only Sarah that apparently works there. After much back and forth as to why we were charged she starts LAUGHING at us. Like this is a joke to them. During times like these where everyone is hurting financially and they LAUGH AT US! She didn't help us with the situation. She offered $270 "credit" which we didn't want because we were 1000% not going to be using their company! Sarah just continued her unprofessional rhetoric and tried to cover it up by saying she was laughing with a coworker. She then says that she can offer us 50% of the $270.00 which we did not want because THE "tech" DID NOTHING! So my fiance asked who gave her the authorization to give us a 50% refund, to which she stated "Dan". Dan is obviously the "D" in D Rhode. So we asked to speak to him and Sarah said no! Because he was busy. This has got to be the absolute worst experience ive ever had with any company before. How in the world are they still open for business when they treat the customers like absolute crap!? And I just want to leave this message to the owner if you just so happen to feel the need to reply to this review. Take your company and shove it. You are a cancer to the industry and to business owners alike. You don't deserve the be operating a business if your employees cant seem to speak to people correctly. You guys can go to hell. Brian came out today to a house I own but don't live in, but was great communicating by phone across the distance. Seemed very thorough, professional, good interpersonal skills. I've had a lot of luck with this company. I should say that I do have the Advantage account, which they have been honoring and has saved me money. At the time I bought it, I was told the fee I paid was for lifetime service - then they instantly changed it on the paperwork to one year's service - then someone there told me not to worry, they had just changed the terms but I was really down for lifetime service - which of course left me quite skeptical, but thus far they have indeed continued to honor it. Technician did not impress me as being very knowledgeable. He arrived in a Mr. Rooter truck so I guess he was more about drains and sewers than plumbing and heating. When he arrived, my wife showed him the Angie's list coupon for 10% off and he said "No problem". The extrol tank he installed on the hot water heater was twice as big as the one removed and it is sitting dangerously close to the exhaust stack. I will have to replace this when I get a chance! After the technician left, we noticed he had NOT given us the 10% off so we called D. Rohde. We were told it would be taken care of as soon as she reached someone in the invoicing group. We have called more than 4 times and keep getting the same "pass the buck" story and never received our 10% off! What a joke! I guess I will start using Home Advisor instead of Angie's list!!! In addition, after the technician left, we had no hot water. It turns out the pilot light was out. I was able to reset it but was away and my daughter who lives there had no hot water for several days until I returned to check it out. read more

Single women beware !!! I got thoroughly soaked by Mr. Rooter. After checking with several experienced contractors and with the hardware store from which the parts for the repair were purchased I discovered they overcharged me by 25 to 50% for both parts and labor. I attempted to discuss the bloated bill with the manager expecting some receptivity as my first experience with Mr. Rooter 6 months ago was positive; but this time he just came back to me with an equally bloated accounting of the cost breakdown and was patronizing enough to believe I wouldn't recognize a ripoff when I saw it. In fairness I will add that the technician they sent was knowledgeable, pleasant, and did good work--though I will also add what had to be done--the installation of a new dryer vent--was not rocket science and it took a week to make an appointment. I've experienced before this tendency of repair people to overcharge women living alone and unknowledgeable about the mechanics of a house, but this experience with Mr. Rooter tops them all. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I would NEVER - EVER - recommend this company - EVER. They are full of lies, they do NOT back up their product like they say they do, they commit code violations, their workers are NOT all trained and experienced as they claim on the website, and while we were dealing with a flooded basement (TWICE!) due to DAN ROHDE'S mistake, all he could do was tell his assistant to tell us he was busy and could not call us for at least 2 weeks. To this day, no phone call, he would rather ignore us. WOW. Great customer service. Buyer beware! He also sized our house improperly for a mini-split system leading to overloaded units that cant keep up. We were even told by his own worker that we can't run all of our units at the same time, because the condenser can't handle it. If you want floods in your house, then Dan is your man. read more

They advertise 24 hour emergency plumbing but clearly they do not provide that service. Nor do they care if your basement is flooding at 1AM. The response when I pressed for if I could get someone in a day? Two days? "I understand your frustrated with your plumbing emergency, but we can't help you." Frustration is with false advertising. The negative reviews on here make me wonder whether there is a competitor that is trying to undermine this business. I had Rohde come to service my heat pump and have no complaints at all. In fact, the technician, Matt, was extremely knowledgable, thorough and honest. I was impressed with his professionalism and diligence. And the price was right. It is not realistic, as some reviewers suggest, to expect a plumber to come to look at a problem and not be paid. It is typical to charge a fee, which is then deducted when the plumber is hired to repair the problem. This is the first time I have used Rohde, and I am extremely happy with them. read more

4 years ago D.Rhodes replaced my well pump and all the electrical. In July no water from the tap one night, next morning 7 am I call Rhodes no answer so I callled a pump guy he came looked at it and said the electrical was done sloppy and needs to be re-done! So I write Rhodes a letter explainging I had to re-do 4 years later ( I enclosed a copy of the bill) and no response from Rhodes. I think they shoud have given me a partial refund. They worked non stop --(even in the rain) until late 6 pm. They were on time and did not even stop for a break until 6 pm ! What a great team of workers--Manners--polite and answered every question we had ! Couldn't have my navien heater serviced because they didn't put in any of the adapters to purge the system. On the first week of November (between the first and fifth day of Nov.) I contacted a boiler company to come and flush out (purge) the air in my heater, I was told that someone could come out on 11/11/21, that they would call me before coming. On 11/11/21, a professional came to the house and worked on the heater for hours, and when he left, we thought the job was done. Days later on 11/17/21 the heater was leaking and both my husband and I did not notice until I came downstairs and he said that he would put a bucket under the pipe and that there should not be any leaking (which we NEVER HAD A LEAK BEFORE). We wiped up the floor, which was about 6:30pm and at around 8:15pm, the bucket filled up again and was leaking even more. I had my husband call the company and we spoke with someone named "Nathan", who we informed that the heater was leaking and our basement was being filled with water. The water leaked from the heater to the boiler (which is a problem because the boiler could rust and it will create more problems for us)...Nathan stated no one could come and assist us that evening. We had to try to fix it alone, Per Nathan, he would try to get someone to come to my home the next day 11/18/21. At 12pm on 11/18/21 I received a call from The D. Rohde Company, stating someone would be coming over to take a look at the issue. By 12:30pm Phil came to our home and he fixed the leak, as well as some other things that were contributing to the leak (he informed us that the heater had wrong parts, etc. that had nothing to do with what the previous professional dealt with). After a discussion with Phil regarding the issues with the heater and communication with what transpired with the dropping of the ball with customer service (Nathan) a decision was made that Phil would fix the issue with the water. I am happy to say that Phil fixed the leak, Jeff who came previously purged the baseboard (which was the original request along with other things Jeff did) and we cleaned up the basement after Phil left and we are happy to have a working heater. I hope that this does not happen again. read more

I used them for a leaky toilet a couple of years ago. They successfully fixed the leak, but forgot to put down a new flange where the water line pipe went into the floor. I called them about it and they sent someone out to put in a new flange the next day. If that was the end of it I would have given them 4 or 5 stars. However there was a billing problem. When I booked the service they told me there would be a $99 diagnostic charge to come here, but that if they did the repair that charge would be waived. When I looked at the detailed bill, they had included the $99. I called them several times to discuss it and each time they told me they would correct that and send a refund to my credit card. As you can guess from my rating, they never did send that refund to my card. Eventually I had to file a dispute with my credit card company claiming an overcharge of $99. That dispute completed successfully. I have no idea what interaction there was between D Rhode and my credit card company, but I should not have had to file a dispute to have this corrected. Will not do business with them again. If you do, make sure you use a credit card (no cash or check) so you have the option to dispute if they overcharge you. read more

I called their emergency service around 6:30 am and talked to a very professional sounding and efficient (seemingly, yet not his fault) who assured me I would have a call returned that day. Well no call, guess they do not need to live up to their status of "same day" service, to me that's false advertising. I must admit I used them once before and it was summer time, so probably needed the business and were able to show up the second day after my call. Well, that time I paid them $300 dollars to run a snake down my drain once, it took 15 minutes. I could have bought my own snake for that price. Funny thing I'd like to add is a co-worker had an emergency this week also, they never called her back either. Bottom line if you want a true emergency plumbing service in Ulster county call Lowe Plumbing. They may seem expensive, but they do the job, get it done and stand up to what they advertise. read more

I found them on Angies list and decided to give them a call as I was looking to find someone who could give my furnace a tune up, as I've had companies who "know what they're doing" and my house smells of heating oil. When I called, Susan answered the phone and she was so helpful and kind. She took the time out to explain everything, what they have to offer and pricing. She got me in within a week and told me the name of the gentleman who will be coming, which is important! She told me he would show up between 8am and 10am. He arrived at 8:07 and left by 9. He thoroughly cleaned my furnace, tuned it up, changed stuff and had it running better than it has before! I'm highly impressed and so is my husband. We will be calling them for any future work! prompt, smart and courteous service by master technician matt griffin. i had a problem with a pool heat pump, and while that wasn't exactly the main work for a heating and plumbing repair service, the people at d rohde agreed to try. matt arrived half an hour after i called (and this in high season), and methodically traced the problem to its source. i'd had several other people assure me the problem with the heat pump was something called the "pressure switch". matt worked on things like sherlock holmes, probing and testing and finally zeroing in on the source which wasn't the pressure switch at all but a connection made flimsy by industrious winter mice. problem solved! the fact that he was a nice guy made the experience even more pleasant. can't recommend matt and d rohde highly enough. read more

I would not recommend this company if you are not a big client. I scheduled an a.c tune up and the day before the scheduled appointment I got a phone call that they had a big job come up that day and they would need to reschedule my appointment. I rescheduled for two days later after my boss gave me the okay to leave work early Friday instead of the original scheduled day. Friday came and I got a call in the morning saying they would need to reschedule due to weather. I told them the weather is supposed to be fine during our scheduled appointment. A couple hours later I got another call saying they had an emergency call and the tech that was supposed to do my job wouldn't be there until late, conveniently when the rain is supposed to start. I finally told her that I could not just keep asking my job to leave early just to have them continue to cancel for bigger jobs and that I would be taking my business else where. If you have no problems rescheduling service constantly then give them a try. If you are looking for a reliable and professional company I would skip this one. read more
