Stopped here with my husband to break a long drive and loved it. A fairly simple place but they had…read morecute artistic napkin holders and some decorations including a flag of the Dominican Republic which helped clarify it was also Dominican food, not just Puerto Rican which I initially thought because they served mofongo. We got everything to go and it was outstandingly delicious. Here's what we tried: -Pastel en hoja that's filled with sauteed eggplant. it's masa is made with plantains and/ or other tubers, then cooked in plantain/ green banana leaf. It was delicious. -Mofongo. We got Mofongo solo without meat- A dish made from fried and mashed green plantains and garlic sauce. It's so far the best mofongo I have ever had. The pieces of fried green plantains were super freshly fried and the mofongo had strong garlic flavors. Vegetable empanada: To our surprise the vegetables were loose inside and were pickled/ tart which was delicious. The empanada dough was so fresh and so delicious and we both felt we never had such a seriously good and fresh empanada. This place made a super strong start to a food-er trip! Very vegan and vegetarian friendly. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite!
