De capo is a definitely a hidden gem in East Harlem. It's a quaint little Italian coffee shop. It's a nice treat to have REAL coffee after all the Starbucks and DD I drink every day. I got a cappuccino and a slice of tiramisu. Both were a perfect combination. The cappuccino was delicious. And the tiramisu was the perfect creamy and sweet addition. It had a great amount of coffee flavor and tasted very authentic. I will definitely be coming back! The service was great and the atmosphere was very cozy. read more

Da Capo is a great little wine/coffee spot. Every time I go I try a new glass off the wine list and I haven't been disappointed yet. The coffees have a nice presentation during the day - usually in a clear glass coffee mug and saucer. The place is narrow but set up nicely with a little bench by the front window and then bar-style seating all along the wall by the counter. In the back they have formal table seating. They have a couple of delicious food options (which rotate) for a savory dinner - usually fresh pastas that they make right in front of you, and then there are staple panini and sandwiches which are good quality. Even better, they host live music events so you can sip and listen. It's small, intimate, with candle light. Love it! read more

Love this place! Best espresso on the upper east side. Easy to grab and go or meet with friends/colleagues in the back seating area, which is very comfortable. I've only had the paninis (I like the prosciutto one a whole lot) but everyone I've been with to eat here has been happy. Maybe not the place to go if you're super hungry but good for a light meal. The barista was incredibly rude. There are at least 5 other reviews that describe a similar incident with an employee, likely the same person. I stopped by with my husband after having a nice afternoon. The place itself is very charming and we were looking forward to enjoying a quick bite and some coffee. There were two groups waiting for their coffee at the bar, and several groups seated in the back area. Since we didn't see a waiter, I asked the barista "Hi, should we order here or at the table?". I barely got out four words before he snapped "I'll get to you when I can, it's busy. I've been doing this for a while ok??? I'm a smart boy." This incident made us feel terrible, it was very off putting and we left immediately. On our way out, he yelled "have a nice day"- so patronizing. I'm not sure what we did to make him snap at us, but unfortunately it really ruined this place for us. Don't risk coming here and having your day ruined too. read more

Had the strangest interaction with the employee here. Came with a few coworkers hoping to sit down for some lunch. We walk in and were not greeted even though no one else was in the cafe. We asked for a menu, at which point the employee points at the chalkboard above the bar without saying anything. He then tells my friend he can't be seated with his coffee. My friend said okay, no problem, at which point the employee got upset and told us we couldn't be seated. We asked for the food to go, and I ordered pasta. He says the kitchen isn't open for pasta and then tells us we are "so weird". We leave and had a delicious lunch across the street. It was honestly one of the most bizarre interactions... leaving my friends and I completely stumped. Will definitely not be returning. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The guys behind the counter are perfect: no-nonsense, helpful and efficient. The coffee really is the best in the city. Started by the team that opened Zibetto in midtown, the same great Italian coffees and food can be found here. The paninis are good; and the pastries are terrific and unlike just about any other cafe in NYC. Try the chocolate coronetto (a kind of Italian chocolate croissant, but better) that is my favorite. It's a great hangout and place to have quick meetings with friends or colleagues with seating in the back too. The one thing that stood out to me was their Tiramisu. After waiting ten minutes at the bar to order a coffee, I asked for one and he said "we don't have coffee we have Americano." "Okay" I said. "You understand it's not coffee, it's Americano." Da Capo has great coffee. They have their own blend for espresso and coffee, I like that aspect and it works well for them. They have a small selection of pastries and paninis, however; what they have is very good, the paninis are great! The coffee shop style is beautiful. A stand up bar, single sitting around the wall, small but enough. In the back you'll find a larger sitting area. Nice tunes featuring acoustic Spanish and Italian artists. During the warm months there's a small patio area. Staff is very welcoming and friendly. Another thing I would like to highlight is their equipment and furniture. You might think it doesn't really matter, but it is of great quality and this helps Da Capo make you feel like you are in a special place. And you are! read more

This place has super friendly staff. I stopped by here after my employee health appointment. I had the ice coffee which was strong and flavorful. Being a little hungry, I also ordered one of their Panini's which was delicious. Unfortunately, I've since forgotten which Panini I tried, but I do remember that the crust was crispy in the filling was gooey and delicious. Will definitely come back again. The place is a little small so it may get crowded during busy hours, but if you can find a seat, it's a great study spot. read more

I don't get to travel often, but when I do good coffee is something I always seek out. While in NY I had the good fortune to visit a couple of very nice cafes, but Da Capo stood out on my Yelp App's feed proudly bearing it's 5 star rating; and with good reason. I've actually put off writing this review because I wanted to make sure my words were as well crafted as the drinks I ordered. Despite Da Capo's pristine Yelp reputation, the location is humble and unimposing. Stopping in with my girlfriend for some coffee and a quick bite, we ordered one of the small sandwiches, a latte, and mocha. My girlfriend doesn't have quite the love affair I do with espresso, but I watched her eyes light up regardless as she took her first sip. My latte was impeccable, and the sandwich was perfectly proportioned. Staffed by a single gentleman, the service was polite, pristine, and perhaps most importantly humble. This may very well be why I loved Da Capo so much. They have no need to flaunt their product. It is simply served with a soft smile, which I believe projects far more confidence than any other means. There also appeared to be a small but well selected scotch line up behind the bar. A little too early in the morning for me unfortunately, but worth noting. Would definitely go back, I try not to hand out too many 5 star reviews, lest they diminish in value. Da Capo, however, deserves every single one. read more

Great coffee, terrible service if you don't look rich/are a person of color. It's a shame, but I went there a few times and experienced the same horrible service over and over again, whether I was eating out or ordering to go. Condescending, rude, short, etc. I always saw a marked difference on how they treated my and my friends versus other patrons. But it was close to my work, so. Once I asked for a green tea latte and the barista was SO rude and like went off how they didn't have them there/don't have like a syrup here like they did at Starbucks. As an out-of-towner, I was looking for a cafe with good coffee and good wifi to get some work done. While the soy latte I had was pretty decent, I paid $5.50 for an 8 oz cup (and with that kind of money, I was expecting at least a 12 oz). Also in terms of the wifi, this place did not deliver. Not only do they only have free public wifi, it didn't even work (my computer couldn't connect to the wifi even after multiple attempts) for the 20 minutes that I was there. Plus, I couldn't find a plug in the small seating room in the back to charge my laptop. I can understand the positive reviews that this place has, but as a frequent visitor of coffee shops, this place just didn't do it for me. read more

This is a great place to stop and have a coffee or a quick sandwhich. The ambiance is intimate. There is a sky light and seating outside. It is small and homey, the kind of ace I usually love. The one thing that put me off was the staff. The Internet wasn't working one day and rather than helping me the guy basically just made a nasty comment about how I probably wasn't doing it right and then made some slightly misogynistic comment. Superb coffee!! Almost orgasmic...I had a macchiato so good! Salami sandwich is my favorite but turkey Tacchino is awesome too! The baristas are super nice and hot and have redefined coffee to be more than just a boost of caffeine but something to enjoy anytime of the day!The back patio area is really nice and the music atmosphere is amazing.
