$50 a plate. Steer clear. This place is a total tourist trap. Yes, the fish is fresh caught, but everything else about it is so unimpressive. The fish was nearly minced, not even properly chopped, completely drowned in sauce and stuffed with onions. The poke was not even cold, which made it even less enjoyable. For $50, four scoops of poke and two sides is a stretch. The sides were limited even though I went around noon, which makes no sense at that price point. I honestly could not believe the line out the door waiting for this. There are so many other places offering the same quality, if not better, for way less. I wish I had saved my money and gone somewhere else.
This place came up on 10 best poke shops near Kona. It's a small hole in the wall but clean and the fish is absolutely delicious. The rice was not cooked as fluffy we would expect. We had the garlic bouquet and the shack special. The garlic poke was spicy and it was harder to taste the freshness of the fish. If we were to go back, I would probably get something more classic like the shoyu poke or the Kanaka. You can get a small Poké bowl for $26 which has two varieties of poke, one side, and one scoop of rice. You can easily share the bowl with two small adults like us. The larger plate, which we saw a family of four sharing including two large, is $50. They also have a refrigerator full of beers from boy. We enjoyed a nice coconut stout. There's picnic tables outside in the front with umbrellas, so you are able to eat there even though there's no AC. Be aware that it's not open on the weekend so better to go now than later if you intend on checking it out.

There was a small line and the lady working the counter was going a mile a minute with loud music blasting two feet away. It was very chaotic. The first place we went to was quiet and spacious.
I love the place and would recommend the restaurant to my friends and family! Fresh fish and perfect seasonings/sauce. The only downside is that the side of the fish is small.

It also came with two scoops of rice. The selection was numerous yet the scoops were tiny. The plate ($42) sounded big but it's probably not enough to share as a meal. By the time we realized, we didn't want to go back to get more food. The poke was very fresh and some seasoned ones were very well done. The octopus one was our favorite. There were two large picnic tables out front to sit. Well worth trying. Recommend!

Got the Pele's Kiss (Hawaiian chili pepper aioli) and Shack Special (sweet miso & honey with roasted seaweed) with a side of Hajiki & Quinoa Salad and brown rice. I like how the fish were diced into small pieces. Everything was super fresh and packed with a lot of flavor. Mainly outdoor bench seating with umbrellas.
My second time here! The line was long at 11am on Monday in July. It extended past out of the door. There was a bit of a wait, but nothing too long. The lady behind the counter was a bit rude and not very friendly. She seemed a bit annoyed with all the questions and people not being able to decide what they wanted to order. She seemed to have no patience for the customers. However, the poke was very delicious! I ordered the poke bowl ($22) with the Spicy Garlic and Shack Special, with Seaweed Salad and Brown Rice. I like spicy, so the Spicy Garlic had the perfect amount of kick to it. I definitely liked it more than the Shack Special. I prefer my poke to be savory than sweet. I also ordered half a pound of the Kalua Pork to take home back to the mainland! It was soooooo good!!! Ordered half a pound of the Spicy Garlic poke too! Yum! I first came in September 2024 and the prices have gone up for the poke bowl and plates!! Asides from the not so nice lady behind the counter, I'd still come back for the poke. Don't let her rudeness prevent you from ordering food here. Come earlier in the day for better selections! They do sell out!

A few people were sitting outside enjoying their meals, and there was no line inside, which was nice. I ordered the Garlic Poke and Shack Special, while my wife went with the Spicy Tako and Shoyu Poke. Overall, the flavors were great and the fish tasted super fresh -- exactly what you'd want for your first Hawaiian poke stop. The only downsides: the spicy tako was too heavily seasoned and pretty salty, and the rice portion was small compared to the amount of poke. I'd definitely come back, but next time I'll ask for extra rice and skip the spicy tako.
I got the wet Hawaiian and spicy garlic with kimchi as the side. Both poke flavors were very flavorful and they make the kimchi in house, which is a popular side. It was a bit pricier than I would like but the fish tasted fresh. Service was great too

It's definitely steep, but honestly pretty in line with fresh fish prices in Hawaiʻi. It also comes with two scoops rice (with furikake) and two sides -- we chose garlic and seaweed salad -- which makes it feel more worth it, especially when you're eating outside in beautiful Kona weather. A few things to know: It's always busy and they sell out quickly, so come early. The parking lot is very tight -- maybe 10-15 cars max. Seating is outdoor only, with two long shared community-style tables. Flavor-wise: If you like sweet, go for the Shack Special -- it leans more oyster-sauce forward. If you prefer mild spice similar to spicy ahi, Pele's Kiss is unmatched. Service is incredibly fast. The woman behind the poke bar is taking orders, running the register, and assembling plates like clockwork. A+ efficiency. Fresh fish, quick service, unbeatable Kona vibes -- still a must-stop on the Big Island.
Arrived here around noon, but noticed a handwritten sign on their door stating they were running late. The boat arrived a bit later than anticipated. They have 2 long picnic tables right outside to sit, but other than that it'll likely be takeout. The parking lot is very compact with a 15min time limit. Not sure how strict they are about the 15min limit, but just be courteous so others can also park and enjoy the food! There was already a line when we arrived, so I recommend getting there early. Their poké also tasted so fresh! Their portions are smaller and prices are higher for the amount you get compared to other poké places... but for sure it is quality over quantity here. I'm OK with that. I'm not a huge ahi poké gal, but they didn't have salmon so I just got it with the garlic shrimp. But everything was so delicious! The seaweed salad, imitation crab salad, kimchi, and kimchi mussels were all good. Fairly simple to order: bowl vs plate (1 side for bowl and 2 sides for plate, 2 servings of poké). Brown vs white rice. Top shelf: sides. Bottom shelf: poké. They also offer a variety of sauces for your poké. They are all pretty good, but my favorite was the avocado aioli. The wet Hawaiian and Pele's kiss were also good per family. Definitely worth trying and repeating. Personally, I prefer this poké place over Pau Hana Poké. Service was nothing spectacular, just efficient and busy. No small talks here. read more

Went again recently, and it just wasn't as good as I remembered from previous years. The price has gone up A LOT, but obviously in this economy, so has everything else, so that's not really their fault. It's now $50 for their poke plate. A 1/2 pound is $15, which isn't terrible if you just want poke and nothing else. I don't remember the poke being chopped up so thinly. It's basically minced, which isn't great. We got poke from one of the local farmer's markets the day before, and it was chopped up into big chunks, which I liked much better. I don't think I'll come back, unfortunately. read more

We stopped by Da Poke Shack in Kona because we'd heard a lot about their poke. The first time we went, they were already closed for the day. We came back the next day and ordered the ahi poke. The fish itself was definitely fresh, but the portion felt a bit small for the price. The cubes of ahi were cut much smaller than other poke I've had, which threw off the balance of fish to sauce. The result was that the seasoning came on way too strong and kind of drowned out the natural flavor of the ahi. Service also wasn't great. The woman at the counter didn't come across as very friendly, which added to the disappointment. read more

Used to be my favorite place on the Island. Something changed. The Pele's kiss poke tasted like it was drowned in mayo with only a hint of spice. The other poke was just ok. Not worth the highest poke price in Hawai'i. As a topper -they were out of furikake. If you're going to charge me $42 for a poke plate.... Keep that in stock. Poke so good!! Was craving poke and this place hit the spot. This was definitely a good selection to choose from the portions were just right I could share 1 plate with my wife. We got spicy garlic, wet Hawaiian, shack special, and peel's kiss. My favorite was the peles kiss with the shack in close second. My wife loved the spicy garlic and the wet Hawaiian. You can't go wrong with solid choices. For side we got the pickled daikon and the seaweed. A good change of flavor to clean the palette a bit between each different poke. Came here some 15 years ago and had a wonderful experience, it was the top rated place on all of Yelp at the time. Now it's WAY over priced. Like everyone says $25 for bowl $50 for plate +drinks, family of four we ended up paying $140 for lunch. We could have gone to Foodland or KTA for a fraction of the price, don't go late afternoon selection becomes very limited. Hard to believe their costs has gone up to justify the price, I was one who stood in line and paid anyway, womp womp. read more

Best bite of the whole trip! We came to Da Poke Shack straight from the beach and it was everything we needed--and more. Super fresh, perfectly marinated poke with generous portions and tons of flavor options. The fish melted in our mouths, the rice was just right, and the sides tied it all together. Hands down the best thing we ate the entire trip. Casual, fast, and packed with flavor. If you're in Kona, this place is a non-negotiable. read more
Tried a poke bowl! Pricey but fresh. There wasn't any line when we went in but there also wasn't any room to eat at the tables outside the shop so we went near the beach and ate. Very small parking lot but friendly service and everything tasted delish! The spicy was pretty spicy I prefer it a bit milder but it was still bomb. read more
I will not say that the big island is known for their poke, but rather the Hawaiian lunchboxes. That said, da poke shack is the go to place in Kona for fresh poke. Expect a line that moves at a steady pace. In addition to the poke I also recommend some of their hot plates. I got the Lau Lau plate and the pork was very tender and juicy, excellent. read more

We arrived 5 minutes before opening and there was already a line forming. Surprisingly, they didn't open until 30 minutes past their posted time, not sure why. Once they did open, service was quick and efficient. The poke is definitely on the pricier side compared to other spots we've tried, but it ended up being our favorite poke on the island, super fresh and flavorful. Parking is limited, so I'd recommend having one person hop out to order while the other waits in the car. read more

I kept seeing recommendations for Da Poke Shack and it was absolutely amazing! I got there around 10 am on a Wednesday and there was no line. I wanted to try a bit of everything so I split the 4 scoop poke bowl (Hawaiian, Garlic Sesame, Shack Special, Shoyu) with my husband. We also got the Kalula pork and lau lau with sides of garlic edamame, pickled veggies, and kimchi. I have no complaints about the food. The fish was extremely fresh and balanced so well with the sides and rice. The pork and lau lau were extremely tender as well. The only downside is that the parking lot is really small and there's almost no seating inside although we took our poke to go and ate it by the beach. Overall, my favorite poke spot in Kona! read more

We tasted nothing fishy and only the balanced seasonings. Ambiance: they only have 2 outdoor seating and it's easily got taken by family during traveling season. Service: nice and helpful. First poke I had on the big island. The reviews were great so I was excited to try it. We unfortunately couldn't get there until the afternoon and they were out of a lot of options. I ended up getting the seaweed salad and the special poke blend and the wet hawaiian blend. Initial thoughts were that it looked really good! The taste was good but wasn't as amazing as I had hoped. Was a bit on the salty side and wish it had a bit more bite to it. But it wasn't bad. It was just good. Maybe next time I can try some of the options that were sold out. I would definitely recommend you try the garlic and the seaweed salad though. It was really good and my favorite part of the bowl. read more
U can almost miss this spot even with your gps on because it's in the parking lot of an apartment building The line had a few people but the lady behind the desk handles it like a conductor pointing people how to order and to follow their instructions for side, top and bottom shelf Mainly the only flaw is only 2 outside benches but gives u a chance to share the table with people you don't know right next to you lol. Both tables were pretty full Seaweed and shoyu extra fresh. The dynamite bomb too. Perfect for a mid day snack since the bowl isn't extra filling to leave you full. My boyfriend and I decided to get some poke after a fun day of parasailing! We were recommended Da Poke Shack, and it did not disappoint, we got a plate which came with either: white/brown rice, 2 from top shelf (i.e wakame salad, edamame, lomi salad, etc), and 4 bottom shelf (different pokes). For the 4 types of poke we went with: Pele's Kiss (spicy), Shack Special (sweet), Dynamite, and Shoyu. Boy, it did not disappoint! The poke was delicious with the warm rice that was sprinkled with furikake, and the toppings that we picked. Our favorite poke was Pele's Kiss and Shack Special, we felt like they paired well together! The Shoyu was a bit salty, so must be paired with rice, just an FYI. This shack is a very small space so there isn't much room nor tables inside the shop to sit and eat. There are 2 benches outside with an umbrella but it is hard to find seating since it is first come first serve basis and most people would like to sit under the umbrella and where it shades, so good luck finding a seat. The shop is located next to a hotel/apartment and there is limited parking, so goodluck with that also. Otherwise, we loved it and would get it again! read more

My favorite poke place in Kona!! Big portion and very reasonable price. Most of all, the food tasted amazing! The staff was cutting the fresh tuna in the kitchen, and the fisherman was waiting there to collect his check. Very authentic, local and ocean-to-mouth The big poke plate contains 4 pokes, 2 sides, and two giant scoops of rice. The rice was well cooked, not too sticky and not too hard. ( As an Asian I am very picky about rice!) And that big plate was more than enough to feed two people. They also have dessert next door, which looks like being ran by the same owner? ( I can tell by the name of the place) Also ample parking close to a few popular beaches. read more
Small parking lot, not a lot of spaces. Highly highly getting there when it opens or even 15 min before. I got there at 12 and they sold out so I came back another day. So worth the wait.
