I came for lunch on a saturday and there was a short line. The restaurant has plenty of seating the the lady running it is super friendly. I'm not the biggest fan of authentic Hawaiian food, but I liked this! I preferred the laulau over the kalua pork (it was too salty).

Closed Sundays and Tuesdays! We had to make a day out it to try Super J's and it was definitely worth the drive. They are known for, and I have to agree, da BEST Pork Lau Lau. It is so flavorful and tender. The Kaula pork and cabbage was a little salty and more cabbage than pork. I wish I had ordered 2 servings of the Pork Lau Lau! We also tried the chicken Lau Lau but the pork was definitely better. Don't expect fast service, just friendly home grown hospitality, like eating at a friend's house.

You know a restaurant is good when locals are coming in for take out, and one says best lau lau pork on the island. J's plates are also one of the deals of the island, it was plenty for two. We also saw a family sharing with two young kids. A friend and I split a plate with two items: lau lau pork of course, and pork and cabbage. The plate included rice, mac salad, and lomi lomi salmon. We also had the coconut pudding. Everything felt home cooked, only by your very talented grandmother for aunt. J was working the counter and Big J was supporting. Both had smiles for all their guests, and welcomed every customer as their guest. Support an amazing local spot while trying delicious Hawaiian food!

Pork Lau Lau (10/10, so good!)

Hawaii, local spot Native Food This local spot is situated right off a main road in Kona, with quite limited parking. I'd imaging that it can get quite busy on the weekends, and unsure where to park. Regardless, this is a super local, super chill vibes! It feels and looks like a home that was renovated to become a restaurant. From the family-centered decor, to the tables and kind staff, everything felt legit. SAUCE: CHILI WATER GOTTA TRY IT! It's mildly sweet, sour, and complements all the items so well. You'll see this available either on the tables or the counter, but make sure you use it! Pork Lau Lau (10/10, so good!) - This is an item option for their "Entree Sets," and if you had to choose one, 100% recommend this! It was juicy, savory, and mixed super well with the rest of the items - It's wrapped in taro leaves, which themselves are super tender and juicy, complementing the pork Chicken Lau Lau (8/10) - Chicken was also delicious, and also wrapped in the taro leaves. However this item was slightly drier than the pork, and the flavor was less intense. Would also recommend this item to try. Overall fantastic local spot, and 100% would recommend this to anyone visiting the big island. Parking can be limited and small, but it's worth the weight and the try. Regarding their entrées, I'd recommend getting the three entrée and just trying all the items that they have because this spot is so delicious. So happy we got to stop by, and definitely would again in the future!

We finically got to check them out after getting a ton of recommendations from friends who have been there before. Definitely check their hours before coming down but you won't be disappointed. There is nothing fancy about this spot but it's small, friendly, authentic and has great food. They are famous for the pork lau lau which you must try. It was tender, full of flavor and the cabbage was amazing. Definitely add on some rice and mac salad. If you're passing through, check these guys out

The lovely ladies running this place really know what they're doing! Served up delicious food and I loved that you could pick and choose different mains and sides in smaller portions so you can try everything rather than getting a huge portion of one thing. The lau lau was really special. I enjoyed everything very much. Just wish I had gotten the lilikoi cheesecake because in hindsight it looked like the best around the area!

We were a little hesitant to try lau lau having never tried it before and were blown away! This is a casual restaurant with homemade kitchen vibes, nonna/grandma cooking in the back and feeding their friends and neighbors. I love the variety of every plate which allowed me to try more of the menu. The mac salad was delicious, the cabbage in the pork and cabbage soaked up all the jus, and the lau lau was surprisingly juicy and tender! I really liked the chicken lau lau flavor the best. The salmon lomi was weird, maybe I just never had it before but I was struggling to find any salmon, it was all tomato. Overall love Super Js and was grateful to find authentic, as close to homemade as you can get food on our trip!

Don't let the atmosphere fool you, this place is legit great! The menu is fully authentic and slow cooked to perfection. We 6 tried every dish and not one of them disappointed. Listen to the owner's recommendations and you will have a great meal to dine in or take out. Forget the Main Street places and come to Super J's for food that is true.

Truly a hidden gem. Worth the stop on the way to 2 step. Got there in time as after we ordered there was a huge lunch rush. Communal table seating. The family who runs the place were so friendly and glad was convinced to get the pork lau lau which they're known for. Homemade and the best lau lau I've had as packed with flavor. They also have a fridge of local style desserts It's on my list of places to return to when on island

Wow what a welcoming and delicious local spot! We stopped by on the way to a coffee tour right before closing and were glad we did. It really looks like someones' home with photos in the space and even gear to purchase. We only had a short time so we got a small order of their infamous pork lau lau with rice and we wish we ordered more! It's a simple menu but that reflects in the quality of their dishes. The pork lau lau was super tender and melt in your mouth. The pork was flavorful and not too salty. The sides with the spicy water and tomato mixture were such a filling but not too heavy of a meal. I want to come back and try their chicken and dine in. Staff was super kind and loved the ambiance!

Loved this place!! We came first thing in the morning and the manager welcomed us in when we were just waiting in the car for the opening time. Feels super southeast Asian and homey inside, like you're inside a family's kitchen. There's not a ton of seating, so probably not great for big groups, especially with how busy it can get for its popularity! The menu is super simple, but really authentic, like home style cooking. Lots of dessert options too! REALLY great prices, not sure you can get such good prices for the quality anywhere else. Portions are on the smaller side, but with the price, you could probably try a lot of things if you wanted to order more. Pork laulau was super tender and had such deep flavor. The patele was also very good. Loved the coconut pudding for dessert too, very rich and creamy. A super cool experience! Was getting a lot more busy as the lunch rush started coming in, so probably would recommend coming early if you want a seat.

While this roadside spot may seem unassuming, Super Js serves up the best lau lau I have ever tasted. I ordered the pork lau lau on white rice, and I was blown away. The flavor of the pork was amazing, and it was soft and tender. Don't sleep on their homemade mango teriyaki sauce in the black bottle. It brings your lau lau from a 10/10 to an 11/10. The woman at the counter was super nice, and gave many suggestions on what to order.

One of a kind. Quite simply the best experiences I have recently had in food. Just imagine being invited over to a dear friends house for supper, feeling like you're being taken care of emotionally through wonderful food and the people who work there. We tried the lulu pork and chicken and also got the Kalua pork. Best I've had. Got the coconut cake for desert. So happy right now because of this place! Enjoy!

Sorry. We don’t have pasteles anymore. Our pastele maker retired.

Do you serve anything made of taro? I guess Poi and Laulau with leaf. Anything else?

We have Laulaus that are wrapped in taro leaves. No poi though.

Good morning! Do you have gluten free options?

We do. The laulau is gluten free. We have kalua pig and cabbage but we sometimes put soy sauce in it. The rice and Lomi salmon are also gluten free

Closed today? 10/5/22? One of my must visit spots, we leave tomorrow 😩

We’re open today on 10/5. Hopefully, you can make down here before you leave

Are you guys open tomorrow, 2/15/2022? Thanks!

They are closed on Sunday, but open all other days. We go several times when we are visiting the island just because it's so good!

Yelp says the restaurant is closed till 12/29. So disappointed! We leave on 12/28 and this was one of our must visit restaurants. Is there a chance that you may be open on 12/27 or 12/28?

We'll be open today and tomorrow. I'll change it on Yelp. See you soon

Hi Yelp says the restaurant is closed all week during thanksgiving week. Is that accurate?

We have a limited schedule this week but if you want to call 8083289566 to order, we might be able to accommodate you. Aloha!

Hi! We have a person who is gluten intolerant in our party. Are there any gluten free options that you offer? Thanks!

Aloha Julie. Sorry for the delay. The laulau, rice, lomi salmon, haupia and kulolo are all gluten free.

Do you ship your sweet potato pie to Cali?

No. Sorry. If you know someone traveling to Cali, they can take it in the plane.

Absolutely love your laulau. Hands down the best one i have ever tasted. We bought so many of the frozen laulau on our flight back to mainland. Any chance I can order them to get it shipped to us?

Yes they said they ship. Call them

Are they usually open on holidays?

We are open most holidays. We are closed on Sundays and when we run out of laulaus. Please call ahead if you want to make an order. Our phone number is 8083289566. Mahalo!

We’re working on having poi again soon.

We are a group of 16 adults and 3 kids (under 10) that will be visiting Captain Cook, HI in August. We are celebrating our friends' 20th anniversary and are looking for dinner options on Wednesday August 22.…

Are you thinking of eating here or taking food home? Either way works for us. We’ll be open that day and should be able to take care of your dinner needs. Mahalo!

I hope everyone is ok there! Coming in August. Saw the lau lau in Tv. Still making it?

We’re still here and going strong. See you in August. Aloha!!

That's why I was really excited to try 808 Grindz Cafe, and I truly wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The cafe was busy, so waiting about 30 minutes for our food wasn't a big deal--we completely understood that. I ordered the Braddah Moco and a stack of Macadamia Nut Pancakes. One thing that surprised me was that the pancakes don't automatically come with the macadamia nut sauce. Since it's their signature macadamia pancake, I honestly assumed the sauce would be included. Instead, they only came with syrup, so if you want the macadamia sauce, make sure you order it separately. We took our food to the beach, about a 20-minute drive away. Once we unpacked everything, we realized our Portuguese sausage was missing, and I was still disappointed about not having the macadamia sauce. We had to drive another 20 minutes back through traffic just to get the missing sausage. By the time we got back, nearly an hour had passed. They handed us the original Portuguese sausage they had forgotten to bag instead of making a fresh one or even reheating it. It was completely cold, which was frustrating after making the extra trip. I ended up ordering the macadamia nut sauce separately, and thankfully it was served hot. It definitely made the pancakes better, but I still think it's strange that it isn't included with the Macadamia Nut Pancakes in the first place. The food itself had good flavors, but the missing items, the extra drive, and the lack of attention to our order really took away from the experience. I know mistakes happen, and I still want to support local businesses because that's important to us. I just hope they improve their quality control and double-check takeout orders before handing them out, because I truly wanted this place to become one of my favorites.
