Being used to NY Italian food I can say I know real Italian food and service. My experience the first two times was excellent. Great food and best pies for 50 miles. Unfortunately I was there last week and the pie crust was like cardboard and the cheese was cold and did not stretch ike a hot pie should. I wanted to have them cook another pie but I was in a hurry and did not want to upset the cook anymore. The wait staff was great and the place is just sexy and tasteful. I'll be back with my family for sure. Every restaurant can't be perfect all the time. I hope they can turn this place around, but todays culture just likes fast food and have let the Italian fall to the westside. I took my mother to this location on Mother's day, which is ashamedly my only experience at this restaurant that I can remember since being an adult. Unfortunately, the experience was not something I can recount with the greatest satisfaction. To recount, the menu was limited to a few specials for Mother's Day, as they said they did not want the kitchen to get overwhelmed. We were only one of three parties for 2PM service, but I know nothing of restaurant management so fair enough. Our entrees were okay, but certainly nothing extraordinary. A good lunch to be sure, with very attentive service and somewhere that is likely deserving of a try with the full menu. It's nice that this place offers Gluten-Free options, and also serves several veal dishes! For those who eat and enjoy gluten, they serve home made Italian bread to the table, which is very nice. I suspect they make a good pizza, based on the quality of their bread. Looking forward to trying it. Their prices are higher than Olive Garden, but you get what you pay for. I'll start with the worst offense and go from there. I ordered the pork chop. The meat I was served was rotten. I tasted in my first bite. No "chef" would have ever allowed that out of the kitchen. Our waitress, bless her heart, had obviously received no training. When I told her about the pork chop, the best she could manage was "Were the vegetables okay?" We have been going to Da Vinci's for 6 to 7 years. It always was great. Yesterday was disappointing. The calamari was good. Two seafood specials were good. The other eight veal and chicken dishes were not . A blob of pasta, a couple pieces of veal/ chicken, a table spoon of mushrooms. Meat was good, but no flavor. Marsala with no sauce? Bread was doughy. One of our group of 10 asked for a spoon for the pasta, but was told we have no spoons. read more

If I could post zero stars I would. The management was horrendous. When dropping off our food, the manager didn't ask us if we needed anything or told us to enjoy our meals INSTEAD he preceded to ask us if we were aware of how much our bottle of wine was and took it from us. Just because we're young doesn't mean that we can't afford to eat here. We are actually servers at another restaurant and would probably tip better than most than of your regulars. It was rude and very demeaning. I would never have the audacity to say that to any of our guests at our restaurant. This restaurant is the best authentic Italian food in Western NC. Da Vinci's serves great food at great prices, and the owners are wonderful. I haven't been able to eat pasta at restaurants because of the gluten, and I was so excited when they introduced the gluten-free pasta! My go to order is the chicken tarantella. My wife and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner here recently. We'd never been here before but were absolutely satisfied and impressed with the service and the food. That sentiment was shared by everyone that attended, especially in regard to their special that day (lobster tail). They even had us in a private room so our party could have a space for ourselves and our own server. There are plenty of wines to choose from and a stacked bar in the main lobby of the restaurant. This used to be my absolute favorite Italian Restaurant. Unfortunately, a combination of increased food prices, inconsistent quality and several incidents of poor service causes me to leave a sub-par review. The restaurant has not updated their offerings in many years. The only change to the menu I can find is you now must pay separately for a house salad or soup. 1.0 star rating I won't be ordering from Da Vincis again. It pains me because this is one of my favorite Italian places. But never again...they have plain red sauce with no beef/pork in it for chicken parmesan and meat sauce for everything else but if you ask for plain red sauce with no beef/pork on noodles they won't even try to accommodate you. They basically gave me an oh well today when I tried to simply order penne noodles with red sauce and cheese. And the young lady I placed my order with didn't even seem to care...after every question I asked her she just stopped talking...she didn't even try to answer me when I asked if there was any way I would get plain meatless sauce with noodles she just got quiet and told me they ONLY have meat sauce. As an Italian restaurant that I KNOW has everything I requested I just think its a little weird that they wouldn't even TRY to accommodate me. Definitely will not be back. read more

It's sad to see such a staple of the Hickory NC area struggling. We purchased a take out order on Saturday 7/6, and when we went to pay, found out that there is an additional 3.5% surcharge when using a credit card. Without any cash, there is very little that you can do, other than just refuse the food. While the food is decent, it's not worth an additional surcharge. Accepting credit cards at a restaurant is just the price of doing business. With the surcharge, I wonder how many people would just deduct this from the tip that the hard working servers would otherwise get. Guess it won't be long before they close like so many other Hickory establishments. read more

Our first, last and only pick for Italian cuisine in the entire Hickory area. Pasta, pizza, seafood ... whatever you're in the mood for, it doesn't matter. It's all terrific. Tony, the owner, is "il vero affare" when it comes to cooking Italian dishes that are as authentic as he is. The wait staff is profession and personable. This is the second time we've eaten here in the past 2 months. The hostess station is rude and arrogant and why??!! You are teenage poseurs and have 4 tables full on a Tuesday night. The service is slow and god awful. The servers act like you are inconveniencing them and orders are incorrect on top of the slowness and attitude. The food is bleh. Half canned. We ordered calamari on our visit in October, and it was apparent that the oil in the fryer had not been changed in a LONG time. I had to drag my husband out before he made a scene. I eat here about once a month when I am in Hickory. I think they have the best calamari as well as other great apps and salads; however, the service is just plain shit. I was in there this past Tuesday night and the older gentleman that served us, and had in the past was so stoned it was noticeable. After ordering an old fashioned, the waiter came back and said they didn't have oranges to make the drink. This happened also Dec. 22nd when my mom and I had our Christmas dinner there...no oranges, same waiter, and he was bad then as well. He even rolled his eyes at my elderly mother. Back to Tuesday though...there were a total of 4 tables including us and it took us 10 minutes to get our server to even get a drink order. Afterwords he seemed uninterested in even attending to us; however, the table in front of us seemed to have his attention all night. Our bill was 89.00 which I would expect to have better service of of a two top spending money on food and drinks. I wish I knew his name, but I can promise you is If I come back and he is my waiter, I will ask for another. You would not think of ordering a Philly cheesesteak at an Italian restaurant but this one was really good had mushrooms cheese onions and peppers the bread was just perfect sandwich was hot and delicious I would highly recommend it. read more

Tried Da Vinci's a second time. We won't be back. Got a nice loaf of bread piping hot. When it cooled was hard as a rock. The only think I can compare it to was microwaved bread. Yeck. Ordered Chicken parmigiana, the Chicken tasted frozen. Not cold but had an odd taste like old frozen chicken. Crust was limp and not crunchy. I really think I could have made better Chicken Parm at home. We have now been here 2x and won't go back. Service was fine. Table cloths were "pilled" needed to be replaced. I had quite a few people tell me this was the place for good Italian so I got take out, mind you I was 4 minutes from the house so it didn't sit for more than 6 minutes before we were opening and eating. I ordered the calamari appetizer, calamari is one of my favorite items and I order from any restaurant it is on the menu, this may be the worst I have ever eaten quite greasy and so chewy it was inedible in fact I think I could have eaten a rubber band easier. So after giving up on the calamari I had high hopes for the manicotti, I love a good manicotti in it's simplicity, a thin handmade post filled with a ricotta filling baked in a signature marinara with mozzarella. Melted on top.... Well it was pasta (not homemade) pretty thick and overcooked, it had a ricotta filling that had zero flavor it was smothered in a sauce that had no flavor and it had cheese on top. All in all I was highly disappointed,. I dislike eating at chain restaurants but dislike paying for no flavor food. read more

Amazing, authentic food. We came on a Friday night and it was fairly busy with a few parties. We waited about 5 minutes to be sat on the patio- despite the restaurant being understaffed. The host apologized for the wait we had ahead- giving us a heads up that they had a few servers call out of work. Rosa was our server and she was a delight- definitely worth the wait. Simply put, it was terrible and we will never eat there again. The only good thing we had thing was the bread. The service was poor from the moment we walked in; finding 2 staff seated, talking ,and ignoring us while we stood there waiting for someone to greet and seat us. Our waiter read the specials off his phone and completely misrepresented the dish my husband ordered. The seafood in my husband's dish tasted like it was previously frozen a year ago and was so severely over cooked that it could have been rubber in disguise. This is the second time we have been here and ordered the Chicken DaVinci, we ordered it with no mushrooms, and for the second time there were mushrooms. My daughter ordered the crab cakes, she said don't order them if don't like lemon because it's drowned in it. Had a coupon for Da Vinci's and decided to try it out. The calamari was excellent and the service was good but the pizza was no better than any other cheaper restaurant. There were no beer specials, the cheapest being domestics for 3.50 and the best part of the evening was the entertainment provided in the bar area. It was a Thursday night and a singer named, Ulysses Long, took requests for motown songs and was great! We have been there twice, and both times we were sorely disappointed. I had the lasagna one time and the carbonara one time, and both times the food tasted bland and soggy. What meat my wife had tasted like it had been frozen and warmed up in a microwave. The service was terrible, and the second time they put me touching another persons table in the middle of an aisle, so that people could bump into us. That's not to say they weren't busy at the time, but I would have gladly waited longer not to be stuck out in the middle of an aisle. Not to mention the first time we were forgotten, and the second time she was so busy that we were generally ignored. Went to Da Vinci's earlier this week for lunch. The service COULD NOT have been slower. The restaurant wasn't even half full and it took forever to get served and even after all the plates had been removed we had to ask for the check. The food was solidly mediocre. My Cesar salad was lettuce with a quarter cup of parmesan cheese and creamy Cesar dressing on the side and croutons. My chicken parmesan sub was low on flavor.
