We barely even had time to look around before we were greeted by Tony, who introduced himself, and explained that "YNOT" was his name spelled backwards. We quickly got to chatting, and he explained that he didn't even start painting until his 70s, which was really only just a few years ago. This was hard to believe, because the art was so stunning, detailed, and imaginative. It looked like the work of someone who had been painting religiously for decades. He explained the stories behind a few of his paintings, and showed us one that he had painted for Alex Honnold. "Do you know who Alex Honnold is?" He asked. "I do, actually," I said. "No," said my daughter. And so Tony explained who Alex Honnold is. I added that I had seen him a few years ago, when I was on my way up to Half Dome. Apparently, Tony was so inspired by Alex that he decided to create a painting of Half Dome to give to him. He explained that he would be sending the artwork to Alex's mother soon. I didn't take a picture of it, but it was fantastic. Prices are relatively affordable, with many pieces under $200. For anyone out there looking for a last minute Mother's Day gift, here is another idea from me. You're welcome. While the shop is small, it is packed with artwork. The store is located in the back of the business alley behind Candle Bar and American Barber Shop. A large selection of Tony's artwork is available to view on his website at https://ynotartstudio.com/gallery/

For the ARTIST membership level it's only $75/year A guaranteed spot in annual Membership Medley Show. I used to show in the 20th Street gallery in Sacramento and lots of fun doing it so being in another show would be fun. It's for seasoned & emerging artists of all types You'll have access to many benefits, see the website for details. And you get 60% Commission rate on art sales. We came here for the Opening Reception July 18, 2026 from 5-7pm to see our favorite Artist Mary Pippitt who did Wintry City Scape; 16x16; using Encaustic selling for $300. What an opening. There were 150 different artists showing their work. Not all the artists were present, if they were they would have been over capacity. The gallery was filled with so much beautiful and moving artwork and bustling with artists and patrons. I love the variety: Encaustic, Cold Wax, Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, mixed media, fabric, metal, ceramic, glass, wood, ect. I love seeing so many varieties of art in one place. Maybe I'll join one day at the FAMILY $120/year as it comes with NARM, where you can visit 900+ Musuem and gallery's for no additional fee. We currently belong to my favorite museum and receive the NARM benefits which allows us to go to all the Sacramento Museums plus all the ones in North America. It's a great deal, you save so much money and are motivated to expand your horizon. I love going to galleries and museums so this was definitely up my alley and in my comfort zone. It was nice to attend with friends and be able to go out to dinner afterwards and discuss all that we saw.

The camps did provide snacks for during their break. Our kid loved the class and brought home some fun work she did. Staff and teachers were friendly and great with the kids. The gallery itself is small but beautiful. There were fun art pieces to browse while waiting. They offer membership and monthly family activities. We'll definitely stop by the family day and hopefully sign up for another camp next year.

It's a tough ride going home as you hit rush hour traffic. The commute time nearly doubles going home. It's a real commitment to come to these classes. When you arrive another class (Open Figure Drawing Studio, no instructor is included in the class) is letting out so depending on how early you arrive there will be more or less parking. They have a private lot and you will always find a parking space even if you have to park on the street. Carol Hawkins teaches a monthly painting with paper class. I also believe she teaches a biweekly acrylic class on Saturdays. If you are interested in any of these classes just contact the Sacramento Fine Arts Center for a schedule. The painting with paper class is $75 (Check or Cash) and includes all the supplies. As you can see from the below picture she draws out the design so you don't start with a complete blank canvas. She walks you step by step on how to complete your painting. I've been attending her class for a few years and really enjoy the classes. I can't always make them as I can't always get the time off from work and due to I work full time I have to take time off to attend the class. These classes are fast paced so you need to be prepared for this. There is no messing around. I've been lucky and have been able to finish all of my paintings in the time limit and sometimes I can even leave with a done painting 30 minutes early. Now it won't be dry in that time limit, but it dries in my car and in my house. Not everyone is so Lucky. I'd be so sad if I weren't able to finish my paining. I definitely am not one to finish a project at home as wouldn't have the needed supplies. She is good at being a timekeeper and gives you count downs as to how much time you have left. She will also go around and help you if you need it. I need the most help when it comes to adding the acrylic parts to the paintings. I'm not the best painters so. I need the extra assistance. I'm more of a fan of the all paper classes where paint isn't involved. Once you get on her mailing list she will send you out reminders about upcoming classes and show you what the project is for that time. She asks for RSVPs around a week or two in advance. By then I usually can tell her if I got the time off work or not. And I should note that it was 102 the day of our last class and the AC was blasting. I always have that concern that their AC won't be working that day and I would have driven all the way out there to be miserable. So far my fear hasn't come true.
