Not only was the size of this chicken insulting, but it was over cooked, dry as can be and it just didn't look like it fit the frame as well as the sides did. The sides were larger than the entire 1/4 chicken. I went straight to the reviews and under the 1-Stars, their complaints are relatively on par with mine. The place was nice inside and the Sweet Tea was even excellent, but my buddy and I couldn't shake the fact that we knowingly passed up on the nicer & newer BBQ joint on our way to this one because we figured an older and seemingly well established BBQ joint might have more merit than the really nice and well put together restaurant 3 minutes up the street, we won't make this mistake again. And I just feel like ANY chef, cook or even cook's apprentice, would not be confident or even content with sending a plate like this out. This chicken was very disappointing. Daddy D'z is one of those local gems that you ensure to always stop at when you're in the area. The visual esthetic of the location has a down home juke joint type of feel, however, as captivating as it is... you don't come for the looks. I decided to get the Rib Tips Dinner with Red Beans and Rice, Candied Yams, and Cornbread. First off, I don't know who was in the back making this cornbread, however, this moist, perfectly sweet, golden brown bite of perfection set the tone for the entire meal. Yes! I'm one of those who eats the cornbread first. Ha! The Rib Tips were super meaty, perfectly smoked, and tender to the touch. I paired them with the spicy BBQ sauce which added an enjoyable layer of flavor to the overall natural pork flavor profile and added seasoning rub. All I know is these tips were incredible. Both of my sides were good. The yams had the homemade southern taste, where the red beans and rice provided a traditional creole flavoring with an added smokiness from the sausage. To round it off I decided to try the Sweet Tea and babeeeeeeeeeee. Whoever's grandmother made this sweet tea is truly a legend. I'm talking sweet and yea as it should be. While visiting ATL, I read Daddy D'z was a must try for any BBQ fans, and it did not disappoint! From the outside it looks like many of the bbq joints I've visited in Texas; An unassuming building with smoker in the back. Plenty of parking on site. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed with Southern hospitality. All of the staff and pit master were super friendly. They specialize in smoked ribs, so we ordered one slab with two side orders. This set us back $38.00. The menu also features usual fare such as brisket, sausage, and turkey. One thing I've never seen before is they offer turkey ribs. Maybe I'll try them next time. For sides we chose coleslaw and mac & cheese. The slab came out covered in their house sweet bbq sauce. If you don't like your meat drowning in sauce, ask them to put it on the side. The whole slab was a lot of meat for two people so come hungry or order a 1/2 slab. The ribs weren't "fall off the bone tender", but they had a good smoked flavor. The mac & cheese was great, but coleslaw was ok. To drink we got their sweet tea which is made with sugar and is the only way they serve it. So if you prefer unsweet tea they don't have it. The tea also comes with free refills. For payment, they accept credit card and note they charge a 10% service fee on all bills. If you like bbq, it would be hard not to try this place. Definitely a no frills, hole in the wall kind of place. You can tell this joint has been here for awhile due to the older newspaper clippings and awards this place has won in the past. It's counter service and we ordered a pulled chicken plate with fried okra, green beans and cornbread. My husband ordered a beef brisket plate with collard greens, coleslaw and cornbread. My chicken was moist and flavorful, though it lacks the smoky flavor you get from BBQ. The fried okra was fried perfectly but lacks a tad bit of salt. Green beans were cooked well. The star of the show was the cornbread! It was a little dense but the crust was great with the gritty texture you get from cornmeal. The portions were HUGE and I ended up taking well over half of my food home, even though I was starving when I sat down. Service was so good. I came to this location because a few years ago I tried it and enjoyed. I wanted to continue to support them since a couple streets over DAS BBQ decided to build. Today however, I was disappointed. For one, the pricing on the menus is not what you pay and in addition to tax you pay a 10% unknown service fee. The food: I asked what's fresh and of course the lady said everything and I should have known then there was a reason there was zero customers. I ordered chicken and ate it in my car. The chicken was clearly thrown in the fryer to make it hot. I ran a bbq restaurant many years and literally disciplined cooks for cutting corners and that's exactly what they did. I know the taste of fried skin all day long. If I wanted fried chicken I would have gone down the street. I suggest keeping proper warmers or something. You don't know what a persons dietary needs are and serve them fried when they are unaware is very negligent. I'm a champion for small businesses and will continue to be one but I also believe in giving honest constructive feedback. Do better. Please do better read more

The BBQ sauce was on point and tastier than the "other guys" that everyone recommends (hint: bros in the name). The potato salad reminded me of my mom's recipe. The Mac & cheese was okay a bit dry for me. Only negative of the meal was the corn bread and next time I would prefer a slice of white bread. While the interior is somewhat unassuming, the food and service more than makes up for it. We came on a Monday and got our food about 5 minutes after ordering. Wedges are suppose to be crispy and have a crunch to the outside, like a French fry. These were basically wedge shaped mashed potatoes with skin! Then I got two additional sides, Mac and cheese and Candied Yams. Y'all I'm so disappointed... The Mac was cold as hell! There was no taste and it was not worth $6 at all. Not a customer in the building but it was around 2:30 pm so I didn't think too much of it (but, in hindsight, was a red flag). Brisket sandwich and soft drink was $18 (not including the 10% added to all orders or tip they expect) but good brisket from a small local business could be a great experience. WRONG... Extremely dry and chewy with no flavor. Very disappointed. I've had barbecue in various cities and states I've also tried off the bone which is frequently in Lawrenceville, Georgia and they're pretty good but when I say I'm very disappointed it it's utterly disgust My total came out to $44.79 and it was a total waste of money. The rib tips were probably the size of neck bones full of fat no sauce, dry and not tender whatsoever literally tasted like ham the mac & cheese, not good at all. The collard greens were the star of the show along with the lady at the front register. She was super sweet and definitely made my day, but unfortunately, this isn't a staple which I'll return to.. I've never seen rib tips in the form of dinosaur bones. I am in the area once a week and I smell the smoke and grilled meat and I had to try it. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because some of the tips were a bit tough and I felt the price of the meal vs what I got was iffy. Anyway we ordered two plates of food for the family to split and had a nice meal. Our waitress was an older lady that was super great and helped us decide what to get. Of course I ordered the rib tips as that was what was on the show we watched. Along with a bunch of other fixings. Although I expected to love the rib tips I just didn't. They were good but had a lot of gristle which I should have expected. And the ribs are a fatter cut than what I'm used to which I've learned I'm just not a fan of. The corn bread was exceptional as well as the black eyed peas and I believe it was fried zucchini that tasted like chicken parmesan! But as for the meat I was not a fan. My previous visit to DDz (Dec 2019) was the preferred dining experience. This time around - not so much. The ribs hardly tasted BBQ'd. The taste was as if they had been cooked in the oven and that was it. There was no smoke or hickory flavor at all. I don't think salt or pepper was added either. They weren't even warm, neither was the sauce that was given on the side. Granted, I was there between the lunch and dinner crowds . . . but good grief! Could the BBQ have at least been warm? I got better Baby Back Ribs at Mo MoMo's at the food court in Peachtree Center where I went the very next day to satisfy my taste for ribs. The Candied Yams were delicious Caramelized, Buttery & Sweet. (Sydney R. didn't have a good experience with her Candied Yams back in 4/2022) I guess it's "Hit & Miss" depending on which day you go and the mood of the cook. The Collard Greens were warm & tasty, but the portion was very skimpy. It wasn't even a full serving spoonful. Very stingy with the Greens. The Potato Salad had a nice flavor, but the potatoes were a bit hard. The meal was very CARB heavy, but the thing that made it one of the worse meals I've eaten anywhere was the fact that they are passing off "Coconut Macaroons" as cornbread. It was sweeter than the candied yams, about 2" in diameter, flat and baked in a cupcake liner - and was way too sweet to be cornbread. If a person knows nothing at all about country cooking they know that what Daddy Dz is calling cornbread is not. And who doesn't know a "Coconut Macaroon" when they taste one? Simply put it was insulting and a disgrace! "Kasey's Country Cooking" does cornbread better! Daddy Dz management needs to be ashamed. The ribs must be the cheapest cut of pork because they lacked the proper flavor & texture of quality ribs which suggests they were from poorly fed pigs. The original owner would be for sure. It feels like who is ever cooking the food, they just don't give a damn and there seems to be very little TLC going into the foods preparation. Shamefully, it made for a mostly tasteless, dull and boring dining experience. With low standards, you might be impressed with Daddy Dz. Sadly, it is my intention to never return there for a meal. Here visiting and came across this hole in the wall. Appearance of the Joynt could be better, but the food is excellent! My family of 5 split the 1/2 chicken plate & Brisket plate (my kids eat like birds) also decided to double up on cornbread and Texas toast. I'd pass on the toast and just get a ton of cornbreads as that has the real home recipe between the two. We came around closing & they gave us some cornbread to go with, so sweet and nice!
