Showed up to this BBQ place but knowing what to expect. The flavors were decent, but the portions were surprisingly skimpy. more bun and sides than actual barbecue. For a place that calls itself a BBQ restaurant, the lack of meat was a real bummer.

We're staying Nextdoor at the hotel and whoops we shouldn't have walked over here cause now I'm not trying anywhere else haha some of the best brisket I've had in years. Corn bread was excellent. Their BBQ sauce was WILD! We both were slurping the sauce by the end (no shame). They have pick up orders so that's nice for bringing back to the room for snacks. Huge inside with good music playing - chill service at the counter cause they know they've got the good food

Just ordered via Uber eats. Let me just say that those ribs are chef's kiss. And I wish I ordered extra, extra sauce because it is delicious. Don't have enough room to eat this huge bbq potato; but tasted it. It's is excellent been looking for a good bbq big potato for a long time. Found it!

This place has been a great find for me. I recently started working at Georgia State. I had to find a place to go eat, I am looking to eat healthy as I can. They have these in wings that they smoke, they are great. I want back and ordered the beef brisket, then came back another time and ordered the sides. The ambiance was a great vibe. I love this place.. I have been 3 times in a month! I will continue!!

I ordered the 3 ribs (1/4 lb) with brisket, double macaroni and cheese plus peach cobbler. The meats were decent. My order, however, was missing a macaroni and cheese. The cobbler looked disgusting. There was no crust and a few peaches. I expected more for $30.

Rib plate with Brunswick stew and green beans with cornbread

Wife and I came here around noon today (Tuesday Feb. 16 in the eternal year of our Covid 2021). Parking was easy as they have a large parking lot attached to the restaurant with at least 20 spaces. Only a few customers inside so we put our anti-covid-superpandemic-eradicater masks on and went straight up to the counter to order. Menu is typical BBQ joint, with full menu of goodies - pulled pork, brisket, chopped chicken, cole slaw, baked beans, etc. My wife ordered the spare rib plate with green beans and Brunswick stew, also comes with cornbread. Ribs were a little dry but tasty - they come without sauce, you add the sauce, the stew was excellent and the green beans are the flat kind, but had a nice smoky flavor to them, a little underseasoned but still good. Cornbread was sweet, and moist not dry (I had to use the word MOIST - say it with me..."moist"...see don't you feel better after saying MOIST more than once today? You're welcome). I had the chopped chicken plate with potato salad and coleslaw as my sides. Chopped chicken was a little underflavored and not enough sauce, so I added some of their sweet sauce later, so that turned out better. I like coleslaw on my BBQ samminch - yes I said samminch. SLAWBQ! The slaw was pretty good, a little more mayo and couple degrees colder would have been perfect but it was good. The only thing I didn't enjoy at first was the potato salad - I guess pandemics make people stop putting mustard in potato salad. I'm pretty picky about my tater-salad, and this was a letdown as it was probably made with mayo/sourcream/dill...not very southern (where's the MUSTARD?) so what I did was I went over to the sauce counter and got some of their "Carolina mustard" BBQ sauce and put that in the potato salad and Bingo it was better. For my drink I had the unsweet tea with lemonade because yeah, tea and BBQ. They do have beer by the bottle but I was driving and didn't want to get a DUI and miss any of the wonderful goings-on in the world right now (lawdy I might have missed something as spectacular as that last superbowl halftime show)! So if you are: 1. Looking for decent BBQ close to downtown 2. A BBQ place to "dine in" 3. A place to park at a BBQ joint without paying $20 to park 4. A no frills place where you won't get the evil-eye for eating without a mask on (yes masks are required to enter but you can take them off to eat, instead of eating by osmosis like many places expect you to lately) 5. Plenty of elbow room in the dining area 6. Good basic counter-service and fast food service ...then this is your joint. Definitely recommend and will be back, with mustard in hand.

Went in on a Friday @ 6:30p. Ghost town. Got smoked wings. Mistake. Barely cooked & Salty. On a good note.. the Brunswick stew was on point, but lookout, it's spicy. 3rd star is for the cold beer I had while I waited for to-go..

I'll start by saying the guy that helped us was nice. No problem with the service really. Ambiance was bad. They look like they are working on it but the place was empty when we walked in, no music, no TV, just the sounds of a drill and hammer. Now... the food. The lemon pepper and BBQ wings were decent. They give you FULL size wings so careful ordering. The pulled pork was below average. The ribs were ok in taste but had a hard texture. Now... the Mac and cheese... was horrifying. It tasted like it was spoiled! It had a real spoiled cheese taste. I had hopes for this place but unfortunately, I picked the wrong place to experience ATL bbq.

First time visiting Atlanta and had to stop by and try out this highly rated establishment and so happy I made it part of my list. We arrived towards the end of the night with enough time before closing but obviously not realizing there are a few dishes that sell out so keep that in mind. Nevertheless service was stand out once we walked in and were kindly greeted by the host. We then sat down at our table and were then greeted with our server Tiffany. Let me just say we need a Tiffany everywhere, this girl really went above and beyond and truly welcomed us and genuinely was just a pleasure to interact with through out the whole visit. She really wanted to give us the best experience and recommendations for our first visit and let me just say everything was amazing and the service was top tier, such a great place with a great atmosphere, service and amazing food. What more can you ask for. She would def be the reason we visit Atlanta again and go back to eat here.

If there was a rub, it was subtle to the point of being almost untasteable. Quarter rack of Ribs: poor. Meaty, but far too tough, definitely not fall off the bone. Again lacking in flavor, and burnt in spots. Side of Mac n Cheese: easily the start of the show. Very flavorful, baked and not swimming in cheese sauce, possible notes of ritz crackers detected. I'd have eaten a main course sized portion, and imagine it could mix well with pulled pork or chopped brisket, should Matt's ever consider expanding their repertoire of meats. Side of potato salad: also very solid. Simple but nicely flavored, just creamy enough. Side of collards: fine but unremarkable. Bbq sauce: decent-ish, more tangy than sweet. Very thick. Packaging : Matt's really could improve here. The ribs and chicken, piled together between two slices of white bread, was wrapped in white paper which was in turn stuffed into a paper bag with the containers of sides. This was messy- yes, bbq is by nature a messy undertaking, but a clamshell container would've made the whole fiasco a lot easier to deal with. A fork and spoon were included, no knife... and no napkins. Really? For a paper wrapped oversauced pile of meat... not even a single napkin? I honestly would've been fine paying an extra buck or so for some better packaging and, IDK, maybe a wetnap. Overall, this bbq lover was unimpressed. Perhaps the rave reviews made my expectations too high. I've honestly had better bbq at multiple places in my relative bbq desert hometown of Boston. I was hoping for a real treat during my business trip to Atlanta; instead, I'm yearning for the joint near my suburban New England home...

Hotel that proudly…read moreadvertises a "hot breakfast" consisting of powdered eggs, coffee that tastes vaguely of burnt hazelnuts, and general disappointment. This particular morning in Atlanta was no different. As I pushed uninspired scrambled eggs around my plate I did what any food-obsessed traveler does: I opened the Michelin Guide. Surely Atlanta had something worth driving for before the afternoon meetings began. The city's Michelin stars leaned heavily toward pristine sushi counters where lunch could easily become a three-hour exercise in restraint and expense. Not today. Instead, a Bib Gourmand caught my eye. Heirloom Market BBQ. The address looked odd. The photos looked even stranger. Was Michelin seriously recommending what appeared to be a convenience store? Naturally, I was intrigued. The closer I looked, the less it resembled your grandfather's barbecue joint. Yes, there was brisket and pork. But there was also kimchi. Pickled vegetables. Gochujang. Color. Acid. Freshness. Suddenly the idea of barbecue for lunch didn't feel like signing up for an afternoon food coma. By 11:30, I was standing in line beside construction workers, office employees, and locals who clearly knew something I didn't. I ordered the smoked, diced, and braised spicy pork topped with kimchi slaw and cucumber kimchi. Korean barbecue sauce arrived on the side. For good measure, I added the green tomato kimchi--a mix of sweet and spicy pickled green tomatoes, jalapeños, and radishes. The pork was everything good barbecue should be. Tender without falling apart. Smoky without becoming bitter. Moist without relying on sauce. Deeply satisfying in that primitive way smoked meat always seems to be. The green tomato kimchi was extraordinary. Bright, crunchy, layered with acidity, sweetness, and just enough jalapeño heat to keep your attention. Every bite reset your palate before the next forkful of pork. It's the kind of side dish that refuses to stay a side dish. The Korean barbecue sauce deserves its own paragraph. Gochujang led the charge, backed by enough vinegar to cut through the richness and enough heat to remind you someone in the kitchen enjoys having fun. Against all odds, I managed to finish lunch without wearing any of it on my green Oxford shirt. A personal victory. Heirloom Market isn't polished. Service is efficient rather than memorable. You order, you eat, you leave. That's the point. What lingers isn't the hospitality. It's the confidence. This kitchen knows exactly what it wants to be. Southern barbecue filtered through Korean flavors isn't a gimmick here--it's the language they speak fluently. The entire meal reminded me of La Barbecue in Austin, another place where smoke is only part of the conversation. Michelin eventually rewarded La Barbecue with a star. Heirloom may still wear the Bib Gourmand designation, but when it comes to flavor, it's operating in the same league. Will I return? Without hesitation. Sometimes the best meal in town isn't hidden behind velvet curtains or reservation apps. Sometimes it's tucked inside what looks like an old convenience store, quietly reminding everyone that extraordinary food rarely cares about appearances.

What initially brought me in was Atlanta Burger Week, and I ordered their featured burger to take advantage of the special. While the burger was good, the real star of the meal was the smoked barbecue fried rice with brisket. It was absolutely fantastic. It is not often that a side dish completely steals the show, but this one certainly did. The atmosphere was welcoming, the food arrived promptly, and the entire experience exceeded my expectations.
