'The earlier reviews had me thinking this was a restaurant that served breakfast and sandwiches. It was actually a mini mart with a lunch counter at the back and coffee at the front. It's a great addition to the neighborhood but it's added complication that will make it harder to simply pop in and grab a meal. The rest of the review I'm chalking up to growing pains. I will come back in a few months to see if things run more smoothly. I've spent too much time managing restaurants and working retail to put up with simple problems. Their menu is still evolving. Some things were listed that wasn't available yet. I was looking for a simple bacon egg and cheese on a Kaiser roll - something I can eat and walk with. It wasn't on the menu so I asked at the counter. Communicating this with the woman taking orders was difficult. English might not be her first language but she was also unfamiliar with the menu and didn't realize I was asking for a sandwich. There was a lot of "I need to talk with the boss". I blame the boss more than the woman as she needed more training - familiarity with the menu and with the ordering system. My wife order a croissant sandwich that includes bacon in the description but was charged extra. The croissant might have also been an extra charge. Considering the difficulty ordering, it wasn't worth my effort to argue over a few bucks but I removed a star. My sandwich was tasty - mildly salty. This isn't a sandwich you eat while driving, the biscuit fell apart after my first bite. I will give them another chance in a few months. Too long;didn't read - it's not a restaurant or coffee shop but a minimart with a lunch counter.

So friendly! Each time I've been in has been a great experience, from ordering food at the snack bar to just shopping in the market

Greedy owners adding arbitrary 10% charge to all food orders. Makes 0 sense and is infuriating. Will gladly take my money elsewhere

What should have been a 30-second transaction turned into one of the strangest retail experiences I've had in a long time. The cashier, Sophia, simply refused to complete the sale. Instead, she remained standing at the register while other paying customers waited in line until a manager eventually stepped in and finished the transaction. Let that sink in: a cashier holding up the line and refusing to ring up a customer for no legitimate reason until a manager had to intervene. If the owners care to review their camera footage from that time, they'll see the entire interaction. At no point was I rude, disruptive, or inappropriate. The escalation came entirely from the employee. What stood out most was the willingness to create a scene and delay multiple customers over what appeared to be a personal reaction rather than any store policy or legitimate issue. Retail is not complicated: ring up the customer, be reasonably polite, and keep the line moving. Apparently that was too much to ask here. I'm not looking for compensation and I'm not interested in arguing about it. But it was such an unnecessarily unpleasant interaction that I felt it was worth documenting. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this location.

Let's see. You are in need of a liquor or two because you might have seen a cocktail on line or had…read moreone made for you and you want to replicate it. Or, you're a bit adventurous and want to explore spirits produced by companies other than the big guys. Maybe none of these are true, and you just need a liquor store. Located in the same building as Manuel's Tavern (which makes plugging it in to your GPS super easy), it's located on the corner with parking that is a tad tricky. You can park behind Manuel's where there are probably 20 spots most marked as being available to Elemental Spirits customers. There are also two 15 minute spots as well that for a quick stop work perfectly. Inside you'll find some of the most helpful and well informed staff in a liquor store I've encountered. Their spirits selection covers the usual categories such as Gin, Vodka, Rum, Bourbon, Sake, etc. In each case, their selections definitely skew a bit off the mass market path (and that's definitely ok). Here you will not see six hundred facings of different Bacardi flavors and Absolut Vodka flavors you'll never really use. Instead, you'll see a carefully selected roster of spirits from a wide range of distilleries that excel at their particular product(s). This is the place you probably can find that unique bottle you've been searching for. Sorry, bourbon hunters, you're probably not going to find some rich stash of Pappy or other overpriced, overhunted bourbon. I'm a rum guy, and while the selection wasn't massive, that which was on offer was a fantastic mix of distillers and blenders, all of whom make excellent products. Picked up some Paranubes Mexican rum from Oaxaca while I was there. There was a great selection of gin, vodka, aperitifs, bitters to explore. They also had a dozen or more bourbons and other spirits where they had worked with the distillers to select a specific barrel (a.k.a. A barrel pick). There's a lot to browse and explore here. Not a spirits person, but focused more on wine? They got you as well. Probably over 250 labels available across a range of grapes, origins and styles. Picked up a Portuguese Rose while I was there most recently. What about beer and cider? They've got you there as well with a diverse selection of those as well - and not dozens of facings of Lite, Busch, Angry Orchard or other mass market products. In the end, a very reasonably priced, exceptionally well stocked liquor store with outstanding staff who know their products exceptionally well. Parking is decent behind Manuel's, and pricing is good given the unique and high quality products they have on offer. Head over there, chat with the staff, and pick something other than that bottle of Absolut, Meyers, or Sapphire you were about to buy. I'm certain you'll find something you will love. Oh, and by the way - looking for old school, classic cocktail glasses? Guess what? They have lots of that on sale as well! Can't recommend these guys enough.

Tucked away in a little shopping center, Highland Fine Wine is an unassuming little corner store that you could easily drive by and not notice it, but you'd be making a mistake. What they lack in space is made up for by the variety of wines. They will also be happy to do some special ordering for you as well. I spoke with the sales associate today, Peter, who also said that they frequently turn over wines and bring new things in. This place is a perfect little store for those who want to explore the world of wines and you're open to trying new things. Now, if you're looking for a specific bottle from a little vineyard in southern France and you need it today, perhaps this is not your store. They do wine tastings on Saturday afternoons from 3-5pm. Sign up with them before you leave so they can help you remember the types of wines you are buying so you can do a repeat tasting! A fantastic little neighborhood wine shop. Will definitely be back!

Hop City is such a popular spot. Yes, located within Krog Street Market does help somewhat. But the…read morevariety here was impressive. You can buy beer, wine, hard liquor, and even drinks laced with THC. The quantity/size varies depending on the brand and type as with most beers for instance. But, you can also buy a single can to try out if you're less daring (or should I say more daring -- haha) and want more variety. Though pricing for a single can is a mystery, it starts around $2.99 a can (I think). With its variety, you can try local beers to craft ones. Their shelves are labeled so you can choose whatever's your mood. There are sweet beers to IPA's to some with chocolate. I think that's why I like this spot: variety. Hop City is a great little bar inside of Krog that has a huge variety of options. Their beer list is extensive and they also have a variety of ciders, seltzers, wines, and cocktails. The Assistant General Manager was working when we went and he was beyond helpful and did not steer any of us wrong in what to get based on our preferences. He's a great person to get drink advice from and is also super friendly and nice to talk to! There is also an entire beer store that the bar is attached to, where the selection is very expansive. Make sure to check the store and bar hours, though, as Krog Street Market and all the shops close early, especially during the week (9pm when we went).
