This is a smaller rock shop in Tucson. There are plenty of things to look at like native specimens, polished pieces and carved pieces. They also have a bead section attached to it. Prices are ok for the quality that is available. We bought some cool rocks for our grandchildren and some pieces of mica for ourselves. read more

I cannot not say enough happy things about the Dah Rock Shop. I've been going there for almost five years and have not been disappointed in the merchandise, the owners and their knowledge, and my comfort in being able to ask and get answers to my questions. They've been kind to my Mom with Alzheimer's (not always the case with other places) and for me, this sealed the deal on a place I will continue to visit and buy from. My second time at this place and I will not return. I walked in with a smile on my face and when I left I was on the verge of tears by the indifference I got from the man behind the counter. I recieved help with both the women there who were kind, though not really responsive to my love of rocks and how happy I was to be shopping there. The woman mentioned rocks that were out back and I found several I loved. When I returned inside they priced them much higher than I thought it said, as they were in the $1.80/lb pile. When I asked about the price the man identifying the rocks had absolutely no interest in explaining more than they were in the wrong bin, and then continued to ignore me. I decided not to get them because of this and in the photo the two rocks I chose were on the left. I took the picture before checking out to make sure they knew where I got them from. As you can see they all look the same and from that pile, but they were adamant that I was wrong without question. It really hurts knowing that people can be so dismissive to people who are just genuinly curious about what they are buying. I understand they deal with many people on a daily basis, but so do I, and I can manage to make each person I interact with feel like they deserve my attention and respect. I realize there are customers that try to haggle, and I admit I asked if they could discount bulk orders myself before noticing the rather rude sign about how annoying hagglers are, but I am a person with feelings and any amount of response and interest in your customers isn't just about having a good business, so to the man behind the counter, have some heart. Your indifference and the way you ignored me when I spoke up about how I felt as I was leaving said it all. I will never come back to your store. :( read more

The Dah Rock Shop is one of the most fascinating rock shops I have ever been to. This place definitely quenched my thirst and obsession for rocks, gems, and minerals. I purchased a beautiful piece of peacock copper for just 2.50$, a huge hunk of citrine in rose quartz for 3.50$, two tumbled pieces of gold stone in black and a copper color for 1.00$ each, and a piece of tumbled snowflake obsidian for 2.00$! I'd give this place 0 stars if I could. This is s horrid terrible store. First off it's called dah rock shop which I suppose is trying to be a cute play on words but it failed. Secondly it's crammed so full and do dirty you don't want to touch anything let alone pay hundreds of dollars for gems with cobwebs. Staff is terribly unfriendly and ignores you the whole time. No offers to help or anything they were too busy watching golf on the smaller TV. Not impressed and didn't find any pretty gems or rocks to take home. read more

I won't lie: Tucson seems like kind of an odd place to have a rock shop considering the fact that they have the world's largest gem and mineral show here every year, so you'd think people would just wait for that. Nevertheless, it's a neat place to visit the rest of the year and they've got a lengthy selection of rocks/minerals available. There's an especially large amount of Arizona-sourced options which I really appreciated. Support local business! *If you're a religious attendee of the mineral show like I am then you'll notice that this place obviously has mark-ups from the show. You can't expect otherwise or it would be impossible to stay in business. Even so, they've got fairly good prices. Some things rose eyebrows, but most were certainly well priced. *They had a neat selection of books available and I enjoyed seeing that several were specific to Arizona/Southwest. There were also cool "beginners" packets that can be bought and gifted to friends and children who have yet to become rock/fossil fiends. *I loved how many rocks were from the Arizona area. They had a large section for tumbled stones, some of which were more obscure ones that you don't often find in other rock shops. This was a nice surprise as it can get repetitive when visiting shops that all have the same options. It was great to see Zincite available as it is really uncommon to find in most stores. There was also some neat polished corundum that was surprisingly inexpensive that had a lovely glisten to it. They also had gorgeous tanzanites available. They're becoming more mainstream, but these were some high quality picks for sure. *They have an entire room dedicated to jewellery, both locally made and not. There was a range prices available, too. *Out back there were large bins and piles of stones for landscaping purposes that were neat to sift through. They are sourced worldwide and can be nice centerpieces for your yard to get you away from boring granite boulders. There were both lower and higher quality options available, it's just up to you to comb through and locate what you like. This added to the fun, though! *One star off because I feel the atmosphere could be a little improved. Some sort of delicate music as well as softer and more consistent lighting would be appreciated. read more

I've been here many times over the last 5+ years... it's a fun spot to pick around and see the rough materials out back. The inventory is rather old... not really a big overturn even considering the ability to do so each year after TGMS. Caveat Emptor some prices are completely bogus!!!! Other prices are very fair. A huge plus is that they carry lortone tumblers and various media for tumbling. The main reason for 3 stars is that after 3 consecutive visits I got a rather cold reception from the owner... considering I can price check and buy anything they have from the gem shop.com; I expect better friendliness! The whole reason to go to a gem shop is because it's fun. This place is still fun but could use a bit of energy and new rough inventory out back. read more

Older man behind the counter is not generating much positive customer response. I asked a couple simple questions and his reply was as few words as possible and not at all what I asked. Such as, "is the malachite in AZ lapidary grade or just specimen grade?" (I thought it all came from Zaire or somewhere and I was surprised to know it was found in AZ). His reply was "out back". When I rephrased the question, he acted even less approachable and just said more emphatically, "It's all out back." When I asked about cutting coral, I got a similarly unhelpful answer. It wasn't like I was there to just pick his brain and not buy anything. I had selected items to purchase. The two ladies there were pleasant and helpful. read more

Out of about 8 rock shops that I'm aware of in Tucson, this is by FAR the best shop--and perhaps the only shop you need to visit. The others were either closed (and not too impressive from peering in the windows), or very disappointing. I appreciated the wide variety of rocks/minerals/fossils, the good quality, and the fair pricing. It's hard to find shops that offer all 3 of these. And even though it was 100+ degrees outside, the prices were so good on bulk stones that I spent half an hour gathering rocks outside...after 2 hours searching & buying inside. read more

A great small family rock shop. They have an amazing amount of rough outside. I braved 106 heat to look at it all. Most of what I got was $5/lb or less. Most was $2/lb or less. You can't find dirt that cheap. I can't wait to dive in to all the different kinds of material I got! read more

Wow! So impressed. Took my vacationing rock hound sister in law here today and it blew her away. I won't say how much we spent but prices were reasonable. Service was great. I am being very generous with this 2 star review. My 11 year old grandson is a curious young man and just loves the history of rocks and enjoys the spectacular colors they are composed of. So we thought this would be a wonderful place to take back some stones, geodes and other goodies. As soon as we walked into the shop the gentleman behind the counter didn't say hello or greet us in any kind of manner. His face was sour. My grandson asked him where he could locate a particular stone. No answer and he walked away. They do have a nice array of stuff for the collector and prices are on everything so there is no need to communicate with the sales folks. We found about $15.00 dollars worth of stones and proceeded to pay a young lady who was quite sweet. She smiled and was quite pleasant. I would not ever come back because of the gentleman. I think if you want more business explain to him to be more friendly and answer questions from a young man who is very interested in fossils, stones and the likes. read more
