The size of the sandwich was huge and the Italian sausage (hot) was excellent. A huge plus was that the sandwich held together through the entire eating process. When you're eating at a roadside food truck and a sandwich falls apart-very aggravating! Not here however. The bun used was delicious as well. It wasn't just a standard hard roll. It was a perfect compliment to the whole deal. Tom was there to chat with. Very cool guy. The owner was a very nice lady. Great job! I'll be back (tomorrow)!

It was delicious and the cost was well below the average I have been paying. I highly recommend!!! A few things to note: 1. Cash Only and the nearest ATM is 4 miles away. 2. They are open for breakfast and lunch and close at 2:00 pm. 3. They are open year 'round.

You can park in the street or pull up on the grass to grab your dog. Sylvia serves up Mucke's hot dogs, hot sausage and Kielbasa with all the fixings. You can get a lunch special of two dogs, a bag of chips, and a soda for just seven bucks. You can trick out your dog with FREE fixings like ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, cheese, chili and kraut. Sylvia is a joy to visit and chat with. I ordered a hot sausage and a can of Diet Root Beer. It ran less than five bucks. There was a picnic table and bench for me to enjoy my delicious lunch. The roll was from a local bakery and was fresh and very good. The sausage was generously sized and tasted great with the "snap" I like in a good hot dog. The diced onions and chili I added gave the dog a real nice taste, texture, and crunch. You don't stay in business for nine years in a location like this unless you offer some solid food at decent prices. Nice job, Sylvia !

What The Truck BBQ #RiverfrontFoodTruckFestival…read moreWe drove to Hartford to see what the food truck collection was like. We sampled 4 trucks. This was by far the best we found. I am fussy about my BBQ and have not usually found much to cheer about in CT (I do like Pig Rig and my own). These folks had their smoker right out back of their food truck; it's a beautiful thing to behold and the smell of genuine smoked-right-there meat was enough to get us to the counter. The turkey legs were just coming off the smoker and the burnt ends were on-the-way, so we waited ~20 minutes (worth it!) to get an order of those. When they say the turkey drum is ginormous, they are serious (see photo) and the flavor!!! The true art of BBQ is not how much gooey sauce you can slather onto a piece of meat or how spicy you can make the rub. It's all about getting a balanced flavor from the smoke. You can't duplicate this from a bottle and it really takes someone with experience to make the smoke and the meat dance like this. YOU MUST try the turkey legs if you can get one. If not, the burnt ends are really done well. Not quite the same burnt ends you would get at a good Texas BBQ place, but certainly the best I've had outside of Texas. Aside from the cool name, What The Truck BBQ is a must stop.

The lines are long but the Thai food is still so good and a relative bargain for the quality. I am a big fan of the spicy Chicken chock full of chicken and vegetables! As I like spicy food I went for the basil fried rice. There are three stars on its side and that means it is the spiciest thing their menu. I eat real spicy food. To my surprise the fried rice was really spicy with a ton of flavors. The basil leaves on the rice explodes in mouth with flavors. It was spicy hot as well as temperature hot. I was sweating when I was eating it. She offered to make it more spicy if I want. I took the right decision to not go for it.

They also have drinks, chips and cookies. Maggie's uses Mucke's natural casing dogs, which is definitely not something that most CT places use. Maggie's does not have any specialty hot dogs per se, but they do have their own chili and some other standard toppings to choose from. I ordered a hot dog with chili and mustard. I haven't had a Mucke's in a while. It seemed like it was probably steamed. Good flavor. Good snap. The chili sauce was meaty and tasty. Definitely above average for CT. The mustard was good too. It…read morestarted out transporting workers to CCC camps in the 1930s, then the State of Connecticut used it to move prisoners to work details, then it became an ice cream and popcorn truck in Hartford before eventually ending up in a junkyard. Robert "Red" McCormick later rescued and restored it, and it's been serving hot dogs for more than fifty years now. At this point it's basically a local icon for those who know, and can be found over on East River Drive in East Hartford. The menu is simple--hot dogs, kielbasa, chili, drinks, chips, cookies--and that's exactly the right call for a place like this. I had two hot dogs and both were great. Quick service, good flavor, and they were wrapped well enough that I had zero concerns about anything spilling on the way back to the office. Overall, a fun, straightforward lunch stop with good food, and fun character and history. If you appreciate old-school spots that keep things simple, this one's worth a visit.
