I came here for the first time on a Saturday morning with a friend. Our server came around with coffee right away. Felt like a diner- which I love! We both ordered the veggie omelet which came with country potatoes and toast- we both had rye. All of it was hot and delicious! I had really wanted to try the poutine but I am a vegetarian and sadly, they don't offer it with a mushroom gravy, which I found at two poutine places in Quebec City. I guess there are not enough vegetarians asking for it around here. I gotta say it was super loud in here as the place was packed with a large group. I enjoy a lively atmosphere but it was just too much. I found myself wanting to rush to get out of there as the noise was overwhelming while eating breakfast. I prefer to ease into my day. Came here to try out the Quebecois items and to have breakfast. The restaurant is really open for early morning to early afternoon dining, and we arrived closer towards closing. Upon entering, we found the wait staff chatting with each other at the seats or serving the handful of customers in the dining room. Decor was heavily coffee influenced-- from the wallpaper to the wall art, it's obvious a cup of joe plays a role here. We ordered a smattering of breakfast dishes and of course, two of the poutine dishes. Overall the food was just ok, not memorable. The pancakes had a nice texture but were largely flavorless; maple syrup helped somewhat but that ended up being the only flavor. Eggs were serviceable, potatoes were fine. The poutine was okay. I've had much better in Canada. Theirs felt like a beef based gravy out on top of French fries, with pockets of cheese curds, which were the better part of the meal. The Quebecois poutine was better, with added ham & veggies to add some complexity. The downside of our visit came as we approached their closing hour of 2pm. The crew started cleaning up and vacuuming around us as we were still eating before close. I had a single cup of coffee, and when I asked for a refill, the waitress apologized and said they poured it out because it was getting close to closing time. Ironic, considering the amount of pro-coffee memorabilia around the restaurant. We hadn't even hit closing but pouring out the coffee while a table was still eating didn't cross anyone's mind. (Nor cleaning around us, passively encouraging us to leave.) The coffee wasn't removed from the bill in recognition that maybe they made a mistake. Overall.. eh. I was hoping for more, but it is what it is. I'm sure it's fine for the regulars, but this wasn't worth the long trip for what I was hoping was a callback to Quebec faire, in Connecticut. read more

I grew up in Canada and since I moved down here was never able to find a half decent Poutine that compared. Was recommended this place by someone at work and finally was able to go to today. It was absolutely perfect here. 10/10 poutine, felt like I was back home in Canada again I was so happy I could have cried. Will be coming back 100%. Decided to stop and grab a quick bite to eat before going to Church Service. We arrived and it was quite busy and a wait but we lucked out as there are stools at the bar nook that had 2 seats available so it was a quick in and out. Cozy diner that we went to on a whim. They were fast and had our usual breakfast comfort foods. I was missing a bit of home (from the North) and was delighted in the breakfast poutine - really hit the spot. Service was great and our server was attentive, extra star for her dealing with my toddler accidentally spilling water; while we were reprimanding her, she calmed my toddler down saying it is okay and just an accident. The diner is exactly what you expect from an old school style diner. Swivel stools, great conversation at the 1st come 1st serve bar and smiling staff. Portions are large. There are no gluten free options as a FYI. I got an egg white omelet with rye bread. Mine had peppers and Cajun sausage. My sausage was so good! It definitely carried the omelet because it was on the bland side. It came with probably the best home fries I've had in a while. Of course we tried the poutine. Unfortunately I was disappointed. The gravy, bland and for me, it didn't elevate the fries. I preferred the fries without the gravy. I would come back to sit at the bar and engage in conversation with the friendly consumers over a coffee and the home fries. There was a guy that even covered our meal. We found this spot in Manchester and we were thrilled we did! Very busy Sat morning but we were able to sit within a 20 min wait. The staff is very friendly and we had a nice quiet seat in the back. I ordered the Large Breakfast Poutine w/Bacon. The portion was huge and could have fed 2 or 3 people. The gravy & squeaky cheese were Legit, which is everything in Poutine. It comes with scrambled eggs inside, choice of meat, and choice of Homefries or traditional French fries in the bowl. I also ordered a cranberry muffin buttered and grilled. My friends ordered straight up scrambled eggs, toast, Homefries, & bacon - kielbasa. The bacon was nicely cooked and thick. The kielbasa was fantastic with a hint of a Smokey flavor. All in all it has a cozy atmosphere, not fancy, but clean. The staff is extremely busy but will help you right away if you call for their attention. Exiting is easy as you don't have to wait for the check. Just head up front when you're done and they will check you out quickly. I recommend you try something Canadian there......and for Pete's sake!...put real Maple Syrup on it. Life is too short for fake maple syrup. Had another great weekend poutine fix at Chez Ben Diner. Straying from the classic original poutine, my partner and I tried the Polska (basically the normal poutine + kielbasa) and the Chili Hot Dog Poutine (no gravy, just chili, cheese curds and hot dogs). Our last good poutine was years ago when we visited Quebec. The gravy was on point and the cheese curds were appropriately "squeaky" (if you know, you know). We both got an omelet which was also very good and both were served with a good amount of home fried potatoes. This place use to be my old stomping ground way back in the day. They offer breakfast fare and poutine, and both are served up plentiful and tasty. I've tried poutine in many places and many styles. This is the closest anyone had ever gotten to true Canadian heart attack tastiness. The fries are bagged but they are crisp, gravys thick enough to coat the fry but liquid enough to not pool, and there's plenty of squeaky cheese curds melting slightly from the heat of the fries. I had long heard about how great the poutine was and I am thrilled to report that everything I had heard is true. I could talk about the decor (nothing special), or the service (understandably slow on a packed Sunday mother's day morning) but I won't dwell because the poutine is the TRUTH. I got the Philly version, with lots of shaved steak, onions, and mushrooms, alongside the cheese curds and gravy. It was one of the best things I've eaten in Connecticut. Hands down. You do not need the large poutine...you might think that...my husband did...he made a mistake. The small is perfect size for one adult hungry person. He got the Quebequoise and was very satisfied. The fam and I came here for breakfast before heading into Hartford. Specifically because I wanted the poutine. They have about 10 or 12 different styles, all of which looked good.
