You can't beat the prices here. Is this gourmet food? Obviously not, but it's filling and your typical diner fare. Service varies, sometimes it's great and sometimes slow and neglectful, but that's alright. The ambiance is okay, similar to a diner but sometimes feels a little more like a hole-in-the-wall. I appreciate them for what they are. A local legacy, that is.

Dairy Cottage is a small, neighborhood place that's good for breakfast. We stopped in after church before an impending snowstorm and sat by the electric fireplace. My husband and I both ordered the short stack of pancakes full of fresh blueberries. He also got the scrapple which was slightly crispy on the outside, how it's supposed to be. Service was efficient, and our coffees were continually refilled. Dairy Cottage is nothing fancy, but it's a Springfield institution. (I still remember how all the walls used to have names carved in them.) They're also open for lunch and have ice cream.

Dairy Cottage, Springfield PA-- ~14 flavors of ice cream, ~6 topping sauces, lots of stylings including cones, waffles, brownies, splits, or sundaes. We went there specifically for a hot fudge walnut sundae so quickly settled on that despite all the other options. Having never gotten ice cream here--other than milk shakes (which are very good, btw)--we were more than pleasantly surprised by the flavor trip and size (ample) of our sugar rush choices. The fudge syrup was hot and thick not just warmed up chocolate syrup and I'll let the old fashioned presentation speak for itself. Also, the service is always really good and last night was no exception even though it was late and they were training new staff.

Dairy Cottage is a reliable go-to if you're local and looking for an affordable quick bite. The food is decent but I have to give a special shout-out to the mozzarella sticks - they are my favorite! Super crispy outside, melty gooey inside. Pizza is fine, the dough could use a little upgrade and maybe be cooked a bit longer. Solid spot for a diner-esque comfort meal for sit-in or takeout/delivery.

My relationship with The Dairy Cottage has been a lifelong one. As a child, we would often stop there on the way go/from visits with relatives, shopping trips, etc. Their ice cream sundaes were "lick the spoon" delicious. They've since added deli style foods - sandwiches, hoagies, hamburgers, etc., turning an ice cream parlor into a restaurant. Recently FDC and I decided to stop by there after visiting the Patriarch and The Queen Mother's resting place in nearby St. Peter & Paul Cemetery. We were just ahead of the lunch rush and were seated promptly. You've heard the saying "eyes bigger than stomach?" Yeah, we challenged that one. I got the delicious orchard chicken salad sandwich. liked it so much I got a pint of the chicken salad to go. FDC got a burger a big as her hand. I could not resist the milkshakes, thick snd creamy, then FDC convinced me to order an ice cream sundae. It was old fashioned heaven. I won the eye over stomach challenge by a hair, didn't eat again for a day, and declared it worth it. This is Old School Delco food, it's not trendy or pretentious, and it's wonderful.

I like almost everything about this place. The first thing that peaked my interest was of course several reviews on Yelp for places that had good cheesesteaks in Delaware County. Of course as usual the Yelpers were right. They do make a pretty good cheesesteak! So let's go over the entire experience. When you walk in you'll find a diner style restaurant with historical pictures but updated(ish) decor. I like all of that. It's a large open concept so you can see directly into the kitchen from the farthest side of the room where it boasts a beautiful fireplace. There are ample seats tables as well as booths. It's a very clean and inviting restaurant with a friendly staff. My mother who is hard to please and very picky was so pleased with her "real turkey" sandwich, I mean turkey like Thanksgiving turkey. My cheesesteak was just as good both sandwiches had a healthy amount of meat. The prices are somewhat fair except for when you get to additions, the cheesesteak was pricey however the turkey sandwich with just the bread was a fair price. This is the only downfall, they charge for absolutely everything! My elderly mother didn't look at the menu to go over each additional item so each time the young lady mentioned an item my mother agreed to it. Cheese $.75 pickles $.50 hot peppers $.50 lettuce $.50 tomatoes $.50 and on and on I think you get the picture. This can take prices over the top when your cheesesteak starts at $8.50-$9.00!

Before digging in I popped a stray mushroom that was sitting on top of omelette before taking the photo. Immediately noticed the amount of flavor of the mushroom alone, it prompted me to ask if they were marinated, the chef/owner came out after I was done and said she takes baby bella mushrooms, cuts them up and sautees them in salt pepper garlic, "no cans here' she said and you can tell. Upon digging into the omelette I found it to be loaded with the ingredients I had chosen, even distribution, I mean just look at that cross section! When I first stopped in here it was in a whim, and although they do have a selection of whimsical, sweet, dare I say, ridiculous and sweet coffee beverages, they were able to make me a traditional Italian macchiato. I had been unable to find a good, even passable REAL macchiato anywhere, and they delivered in spectacular fashion. Not only was the drink silky, strong, and small, it was made with outstanding Italian roasted espresso that has a different character than the standard, heavier-roasted American palate has come to be used to. This alone would have been enough for me to return time and time again when I was in the area, but after getting breakfast sandwich on a whim, this instantly became a weekly stop; more than that, a destination. Fast forward a few years and the initial attraction of coffee, sandwich, and friendly staff has transformed into a beautiful relationship where I can easily walk in, everyone knows me before I am all the way through the door, and even knowing my idiosyncrasies, are still excited to see me and listen to me prattle on about whatever might be the story of the day. The time spent here has given me the opportunity to try nearly everything on the menu and try every drink available. Including all the dry goods, pasta for sale, frozen trays of delicious Italian staples, and more. I am not one to just stick to the things I know I enjoy as I am always on a journey for something interesting and exciting, so whenever something shows up I am getting that rather than something in my "comfort zone". This has led to me traditionally losing interest or finding that the quality of a place declines for myself over time, especially multiple years. Not the case here at Napoletano, it has only done the exact opposite and gotten much more rewarding and somehow even more delicious and embracing of people and everyone who comes through the door. This brings me to my most recent food adventures into the menu here, the newest additions for the most part, the added amazing hoagie list. I have had two. The first I tried was the Gondolier, which I was enamored with for weeks. I had been there too early to order lunch time and time again, and then FINALLY, one day it was about time for lunch to be available and Michelle, the wonderful woman running the front of house and so much more, was able to get me this sandwich just a bit early. It had it all....outstanding bread, roasted red peppers, seriously premium meats, both standard deli and cured. However, something just missed the mark for me. I couldn't believe it. I don't know what and I don't know why. I was immediately disappointed, likely because I had hyped this up in my head for so long and I have come to expect so much from Napoletano, I simply couldn't believe that this wasn't the best hoagie I had ever enjoyed. That fact has eaten at me for at least a month now, but today that all changed, and is possibly why I finally found my voice to put all my thoughts together an write this after so many years. During my visit to say hello today, I realized it was once again right around the time where I could order sandwiches. I toyed with the thought of the cutlet sandwiches or even the Cuban which is amazing, but after going around and around and around talking to everyone working about this and that, I finally decided on another hoagie; the Sicilian. Kris, another of my favorite people along with Fanny (who was on vacation) helped me inch toward this one based on my description of my whole previous experience, and tbh is sandwich is so interestingly unique. Topped with lemon and orange zest, it doesn't sound like it would work, but once you take your first bite, you begin to examine your entire existence. Why have you never had a specialty Italian hoagie topped with citrus zest??? The question has been running through my head all day since lunch, and I still cannot understand why I haven't been enjoying something like this my entire life. So many years lost of amazing sandwich experiences.....this sandwich was so divine, despite looking slightly barren and strange, that it blew apart my entire disappointment I had been holding since the gondolier. I will absolutely try the other four in the list. I would have anyway, but this definitely took that mission off of life support and put it front and center. There are so many reasons to go to Napoletano. I could spend another thirty paragraphs writing about what is great about this place, the people, the drinks, the space, all of it. But instead of doing that, you should just go here. Even if you're not close, and enjoy!

My vodka martini was served in a small glass with no stem, and our bartender again used his fingers, rather than a spoon or cocktail skewer, to extract the olives. The wooden facade behind the bar could be classy and beautiful but appears to be just an afterthought with only a few types of liquor lined up on it. This place seems to be more focused on beer. I did like the open windows which had tables directly under them although my favorite piece of decor is the original Victory Cleaners sign that hangs on the wall opposite the bar.
