We ordered our Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people from Wayside and we were not disappointed! When I arrived to pick it up, the woman who helped me promptly grabbed everything and even brought it out to my car. It came to about $300 with tip for large pans of turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce and rolls. We had plenty of food and it was all very flavorful and fresh! Also very nice to just heat up in the oven and not worry about the grocery store, cooking, and cleaning up a ton of pots and pans. We chose Wayside because of their positive word of mouth and have not eaten here otherwise, but the consensus is everything is tasty here and the service is outstanding! Thank you! read more

There is an addictive food in this place, and it's clearly the Pulled Pork. Once you consume this Pulled Pork, you're done. I've had it all over and no one compares to it. They do something different. I buy it by the pound. Try it. You'll see what I mean. Best to call it in, because they make from scratch. The barbecued will keep you coming back... read more

Wayside Market has the best stuffing I've ever had. I consider myself a self-proclaimed expert stuffing chef but this is better than mine and I'll never make it again as long as I live close to Wayside. I've ordered a tray of it for Thanksgiving for the last 2 years. The space is a little tight for Thanksgiving pickup but staff were so friendly it was not a problem. Regular takeout from here is great and reasonably priced too! Sandwiches, pizzas, salads, you can't go wrong. read more

Don't go at lunch... 45 minute wait to get a cheesesteak. Need more help. And the place is nice but can't wait that long. And the cheesesteak was horrible. Owner sitting down, not too concerned. Was not that crowded. read more

This place is a hidden gem. It looks like they do a lot of take-out orders. I had the brisket special that comes w/ fries and cole slaw. The rest of my party had wings, a burger, and omelette. We'll definitely be back to try out other items on their menu. They have a nice DIY coffee bar. read more

My family and I have been going here for years. The food is delicious, the service in the WM and delivery is exceptional. The staff are always polite and attentive. They're always willing to accommodate special requests within reason. It's nice place to be able to sit down at a table and just relax, enjoy your meal. You never know who you'll run into. Ordered from here the other day. Delivery took a little longer than I would have liked. But I understand how it can be tedious, and it was rainy. But when it was a half hour later than they promised, I called. Of course they had turned their phone off. So I had to drive down there, and I told them I hadn't gotten my food yet. The owner told me he delivered it personally and accused me of trying to get free food out of them! Then he told me where he delivered it and it was no where near the address I gave them. They refused to give me a refund and instead made a very subpar make-up meal. They didn't even hand it to me. They threw it to me and my wife's salad dropped on the floor and opened and went everywhere. And the guy yelled "oh great now I need to sweep that floor again! get the hell out read more

I've had pizza from here in the past which I thought was very good. Today was my first time ordering and I got the Rueben, and the BBQ Andouille sausage sandwich. The Rueben wasn't bad, I would say average, nothing special. The Andouille sausage sandwich wasn't really what I expected. To start, I'm not positive they actually used andouille, it seems more like a kielbasa, but I can't confirm. What I can confirm is the meat was very over cooked. Have you ever put pepperoni in the microwave? It plumps up and gets hard. This sausage is a similar texture, not great. I wouldn't order either item again. read more

My first time at the Wayside Market in over 20 years and I was BLOWN AWAY! When I was last here, it was mostly a market, but you could get some fresh made sandwiches from the deli counter. Today, they have a grill and serve a variety of hot foods, soups, sandwiches, and pizza, they also deliver! It's come a long way since I was there last, and I am thoroughly impressed! I've heard the cheesesteaks here were pretty good and this is what we came for. They did NOT disappoint. My steak was perfect. The meat was chopped fine, almost macerated with the grease and cheese, on a delicious fresh roll. We are already planning our next visit! They have a variety of beverages, including New Hope fountain sodas, local and tasty! They do not have MilkShakes, but that's somewhat glutinous anyway. Don't pass on the baked goods, they make them fresh in store. We had the canollis, brownies, and a slice of the chocolate cake, all of which were delicious! The owners used to own Doughmain Baked Goods in Bryn Mawr, so they know how to bake! We are heading back this weekend to pickup steaks for the Eagles game, can't wait! So nice to revisit this gem, I look forward to trying some hoagies there too! read more

Wayside Market in Media, PA. Some things I really liked about Wayside market and somethings I didn't care for. The meat was very good. The cheese, fried onions and mushrooms all had great amounts. They were finely chopped and perfectly mixed in with the meat. This is the wrong roll for this cheesesteak. The lettuce and tomato have to be on top. Luckily I have eaten a lot of cheesesteaks and was able to adjust my bites to account for the meet being pushed out of the top of the cheesesteak in the roll being too bready. Please give this Cheesesteak the roll it deserves. read more

Picked up an order of wings and an 18" pizza (half pepperoni, half plain). Had to wait maybe two minutes before I could pay for it and when I got it home, everything was still piping hot. The pizza was delicious and is now my new favorite. The wings were also goo-- and meaty! The cherry on the sundae? Service was super friendly. read more

Since I'm new to the area for work, I wanted something quick and flavorful and I was not disappointed. Small market with fresh cakes, and pastries and deli meats. Walked in and was greeted at the door with a "hello how are you " , that first interaction tells me if the business deserves my money. After ordering and waiting less than 10 minutes my sandwich was ready. I promised my self I wouldn't peek until I made it back to the office, the smell alone had me rushing back to eat. Presentation was nice, good meat, cheese, sauerkraut ratio, but the first bite had me hooked. Grilled perfectly, taste wonderful , I'm trying to save the other half so my husband can try , but he may luck out because this sandwich may not make it home! I will be back a hidden gem ! read more

Wayside is amazing! This place has been a takeout staple for us since we moved to Media a couple of years ago. I have yet to find anything on the menu that I don't enjoy, both for breakfast and lunch/dinner. Most recently, we ordered their heat-at-home Thanksgiving meal for just my wife and me. It was tasty, reasonably priced, and a great comfort during these COVID times. My only wish is that Wayside was open on Sundays, but I totally get needing a day of rest. Looking forward to ordering many more times in the future from this great local joint. Probably going to try the pizza next! read more

We ordered the Turkey Dinner for Thanksgiving. WOW. Everything was delicious. From the moist perfectly seasoned Turkey and stuffing to the fresh cranberry sauce nothing disappointed. We got the Apple and pumpkin pies. They both were so yummy. The pumpkin was so creamy and not overly sweet. The Apple was deep dish with crumb topping. So good! I've had sandwiches before from the market and of course they've been delicious. I'm so glad I tried the dinner. Thank you! It was perfect! read more

Stopped by for a late lunch after Linvilla Orchards yesterday afternoon. It was amazing! I haven't been for over a year and i left saying it was worth the drive. This is my husband's favorite place to stop for lunch when he's working. Tucked away in a mostly residential area in Middletown, Wayside has pretty much a little of everything from breakfast, sandwiches, salads and pastas to pizza, burgers, cheesesteaks and bakery items. The breakfast burritoes, Reubens and baked ziti are really good, just to name a few of the menu items that I've tried. We always have a good meal at Wayside, accompanied by fast, friendly service:) read more

From the reviews I was really excited to try this place. The description of their hoagies sounded like the food at Country Deli in Gradyville, and I am always interested in a good hoagie. My husband and I tried Wayside at our first opportunity, and while decent, the hoagies did not live up to all the ravings and praise here on Yelp. For the money, Wayside's portions and taste were not comparable to the better hoagie places nearby. We could feel by the weight of the sandwich, even when wrapped, that it was not going to be nearly the amount of food we get elsewhere. Rolls were shorter, toppings slighter, and meat a lot lesser. We were really bummed because we'd love more great hoagie places in the area. Please let me say, though, that I know a lot of people who love this place, and we regret not trying any homemade soups, or other specialties they are known for. I think if we had gone for a club sandwich and soup, or a homemade deli dish, we would have been a lot more pleased. In my experience, it is normally a shop that does ONLY hoagies, that is best at hoagies. This place does a lot of deli / sandwich / lunch stuff, and I think that is the way to go with menu choices, not hoagies, which are like a whole different category in Philly, IMHO. We hope to go back and give it another try. I will be sure to post a follow-up review if the 2nd experience is improved. read more

Such a great neighborhood place! The menu is pretty diverse, includes the usual pizza and hoagies, then they have paninis and wraps. The chicken salad wrap with Brie is particularly delicious. Super friendly employees do a really nice job as well. read more

We love Wayside. From the case of pastries to the always made to order paninis, you can't go wrong. Breakfast sandwiches here are a special treat. Best pancakes I have ever had. I usually get some kind of grilled chicken panini and my husband does a cheesesteak. It's never disappointing and always exceptionally well priced. I honestly find myself wondering how they get the fries SO GOOD. The staff are so friendly, too. The perfect neighborhood spot. read more

Just started getting food from this place, it's pretty good! The first time I got a Turkey hoagie that was great. Second time I got the blackened chicken salad with extra balsamic (that they forgot and that I paid for) they seemed really slammed with orders so I understand accidents happen. Just bummed with my dry salad. Still like this place a lot though. read more

This place is a cute sit down restaurant that also offers take out near the heart of Media. Weve only ordered take out and delivery from them a couple of times so far, but we've had some very good things: the Cuban panini, grilled chicken Caesar salad, and chicken cheesesteaks and some nothing to write home about: corned beef special (corned beef lunch meat rather than a real Jewish slab of corned beef), cheese fries that they forgot the last time I visited so I didn't get to try those, and chicken salad club (nothing to write home about, but I'm very picky about chicken salad and theirs was a little too tangy for my taste). I'd like to come back to dine I and try some additional items another time. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Lou and Donna M.

Lou and Donna are Middletown residents and owners of The Wayside Market. Both are graduates of Johnson and Wales University Hospitality Management and The Culinary Institute of America, respectively. It had been a dream to have a food business together and create the kind of working atmosphere that we wanted. That came true for us in September of 2003 when we purchased the long-established Wayside Market. The parents of 9, the older children all work in the store along with a number of wonderful, long-term employees, making it truly a "family business." Because we know what it means to handle the health and welfare of a big family, we appreciate excellent quality and value in food and service. We only provide the kind of quality ingredients that we would feed to our own, and treat all our wonderful neighbors and customers part of that family. They sell lots of premade dishes, and have a nice selection of meats and cheeses as well as some of the staples you see in an Italian market, like olive oils, sauce, panettone, etc. Small store with friendly employees who put out a great product. Free parking in their private lot. 5 stars all around!

We were seated in the corner by the cookie jars, 3 kids among us. The waitress for some reason could not hear my non-white friend even though she was perfectly audible to me, and I was audible to the waitress (not speaking any louder than my friend). Nonetheless, my friend had to repeat herself more than once, and I felt her guard go up that the treatment was odd. My protective instinct for them (and my child) went up as well. The food took an extremely long time but that can happen at lunch because they are very busy. What was odd was that my friend was given an order of fries she never asked for--I heard her order THREE TIMES and somehow the waitress still did not get it right. I will add that the waitress was extremely preoccupied with a male customer, flirting, giggling and acting like a high schooler (she was 20-something). I get being giddy in a new relationship but it was completely distracting her from her job and was totally inappropriate especially considering all the mistakes she was making. We also had to wait extremely long periods between being given water, ketchup (again, my friend's request), our bill, etc. Worst part, the bill was extremely high and included about $15 more than what we ordered. We were charged for the fries she mistakenly (on purpose?) gave us, and the wrong sandwiches were on there too. You know what I did? I did the "nice white girl" thing and obediently made no fuss and left a tip that waitress never deserved. It's sad I was confused and overwhelmed by the sh!tty treatment and in denial about what happened. Yes, I should have made a complaint then and there but they'd already made us late for the arboretum, plus when you treat people passive aggressively, and you make 3 kids between 1 and 5 have to sit for an hour of the slowest incompetent service ever, I had to just pay and leave because I was not going to make a scene in front of kids and the place was slammed with people so I'd have had to further wait for someone to be available. However I did attempt to call them multiple times in the days after but no one picked up during lunch hours when I called. They have no email address I could find to show my receipt and as the days passed I had a million other things to do as the mom of a young child so that's how it goes when a business has no email in the 21st Century. We were treated like crap and overcharged. I realized all my prior visits were with my family or extended family, all white people. Childhood visits were with a white friend who lives nearby, and her white family. You can see in photos and reviews I have been to this place many times going back to my childhood, but I haven't returned since and I will never go back. I got a good sense of how it feels when "odd" passive aggressive behavior seems to happen around non-white people, and yes it could be honest mistakes (a series of them aimed at my non-white friend) or it could be discriminatory. It could be that one waitress's attitude is irreflective of the establishment but this is what happened at this establishment, and the result is we were treated deplorably and I have no reason to ever return. They owe me an overcharge of $15 plus the unfairly high tip I left that horrible waitress!
